Chapter 126 - Chapter 126: Borrowed Warmth

The CEO office sat at the far end of the third floor, separated from the rest of the corridor by a stretch of carpet that muted footsteps before they ever reached the door. Inside, the lighting was low but deliberate-- desk lamps casting warm pools over organized stacks of documents, the rest of the room held in a softer, controlled dimness.

The city pressed faintly against the glass wall to one side of the desk, evening settling in layers of reflected light and distant movement.

To the other side the glass overlooked the dimming galleries, signing off for the night.

Galathea stood behind the desk, one hand braced lightly against its edge as she reviewed the last of the day's documents. The chair remained untouched. It felt easier to stand.

A soft knock sounded.

She didn't look up immediately. "Enter."

The door opened just enough for a head to appear.
