"You mean to say, you found no trace of them, Marco asked calmly with a bite of disappointment in his voice, his eyes stared deeply into the young knight in front of him. The man trembled and nodded.
"Very well, you may leave, He sighed, and tell your captain to keep searching, if there's a criminal organization attacking nobles they need to be out down before succeeding in one of their mission, He waved lazily in the air to dismiss the knights.
The man nodded, bowed and left.
Marco looked at teg increasing pile of papers on his desk, multiple letters lay open, lots of sour looking documents lay scattered across his desk, drawings of new creatures were on the top, Marco rubbed his forehead with his fingers, he sighed and laid back on his chair, it creaked under his weight, his eyes fell on the wine glass and bottles of wine neatly tucked in a shelf not far off, the glass reflected light emanating from the window behind him, he had always thought of changing the position of the cabinet, the constant light hitting the glass always makes the drinks hot and unpleasant, but there's no time for that, from the reflection on the Cabinet glass, he saw something blue streaked past and disappeared into the garden, he smiled, Sarah is back to her usual antics.
Sarah looked both ways quickly as she approached the cannon still on the grass Infront of her lab, the gate had been fixed, but for some reason it wasn't touched, she knew something was up, but didn't care cause her tech was still there, she looked outside the gate, people were going on their usual activities, it all looked normal except the large hole still in the area, it was still emmiting dangerous aura's.
Sarah sighed, looked at the golden lock,"Open up asshole, she said slowly at it. It has been her password for as long as she can remember, she had stolen the stuff from her dad's office and had worked out the mechanics herself, it was somewhat broken when she got it and was semi alive, It had a singular purpose, a high security door with a set password that unlocks it, It still fascinated her to a degree as it's golden form retracted from the wooden door and folding into a golden ball, she picked it up opened the door and went in.
Sarah opened the doors and windows wide, the room was dusty due to weeks of neglect, her chemicals were still Intact but covered in dust, maybe due to the earthquake of the cannon fire, most of the smaller things were on the ground, Sarah got to work immediately, she fumbled with her drawer, got the small container she kept her Sweet and threw some in her mouth, the tingles made her feel funny, but in a good way, the cleaning was going smoothly and faster than what Sarah had expected, occasionally the broom melted after coming in contact with some dangerous hazards, but Sarah got spares, she took deep tired breaths as she stared at her lab now dust free but not what you'd call clean.
She heard footsteps coming towards her lab," Mark, not today, I'm fine, you aren't going to knock me out this time, she scoffed brandishing the broom she was holding, She froze and stepped back instinctively, it was Bella.
"I-I, I-It's you, I-I'm sorry, I didn't know, Sarah panicked backing away.
Bella stared at the floor, she couldn't bring herself to look at Sarah,"You've got a letter, she said softly, it's from you know who, she said stretching the letter towards Sarah, who had already closed her eyes and covered her head like Bella was going to suddenly attack." Oh, I-I'll leave it here, Bella said weakly dropping the letter in the grass and walking away.
Sarah looked at the letter on the ground, her heart pounding, she felt her hand tremble and held it still, what's wrong with me, she thought, She picked up the letter with one swipe, it was bland except for the small black words to" Sarah Rose", She took deep breaths, the letter still in her hand she bolted as fast as her legs could carry her.
Bella hadn't gone far when Sarah caught up with her, she was just outside the garden bent down and was cowering, Sarah Felt a stab of guilt, the letter clutched firmly in her fist.
She spoke first before she'd realize someone was watching her,"Bella?
Bella jumped and got up instantly, without turning she made quick gestures on her face and turned to face Sarah, her eyes were swollen and tired, it had been clear she had been crying and hadn't slept for a while," Wh-what? Is the letter not for you? D-did I make some sort of mistake? Her voice was soft and weary, she avoided Sarah's gaze and stared at some flowers beneath her feet.
"I was hoping we'd hang out, Sarah sighed, I know I've been a jerk, she said slowly looking at the letter so she could keep going, I was just hoping- Sarah never got to finish her words, Bella was suddenly on her, Sarah flinched a little as Bella hugged her, she was brawling her eyes out, She relaxed a little and patted her in the back.
"It's ok, Sarah whispered, now are you just going to keep hugging me and making me look like a dwarf or we could go make new stuff in my lab, Sarah grinned.
"Just a little longer, Bella sniffed. Sarah sighed, Bella was almost two times her height, it made her feel small being so close to her all the more reason it terrified her more when she burnt her with those looks in her eyes.
It's just a burn Sarah, you can handle it, she said to herself, you jerk.
Bella hadn't stayed awake for long before falling asleep on Sarah's only clean desk, she didn't try to wake her, she deserved the rest, she has seen her from her window working with her father on how to control her magical element, Sarah sat Infront of the lab on the soft grass, she opened the envelope slowly something sprang out, she caught it instinctively, it was flat by quickly expanding in size soon it was the size of a really large pea, Sarah stared curiously at it, aside from the pea nothing had been in the envelope.
"Is there some sort of mechanism to this? Or it's just a seed? Is it really frol Carl, she muttered.
"Oh yes it is, Came a voice form the pea, Sarah dropped it instantly and hissed at it.
"Oh stop it Lia!, Come off it, only one of us can talk at a time, Carl's voice sounded in the grass, you're going to get us caught.
Sarah stared at the grass, it took a while for her to find the pea, it was green and so was the rest of the grass.
Carl? Sarah asked uncertainly, staring into the ground, still looking for the pea.
"Go away blue hair, Came Lia's voice, from the sound she was struggling. Sarah found the pea and stared at it in amazement.
"Sorry about that, Carl huffed, then barked Lia no!. " Sorry I don't think this is a good time, Carl said nervously," Lia's acting up, maybe later?,"Stop it! Be barked again, I'll get food from the kitchen for you if you do, there was silence as Sarah listened closely.
"Sorry Sarah, But maybe another time, Carl apologized again.
"No it's fine, Sarah laughed, honestly, I don't mind her so you don't have to feel embarrassed about what's going on in your end.
"Oh, Ok, Carl said after a while," Sorry Lia she seems nice and I promise I'll get you your favorite, don't worry I doubt she'll harm me, besides you've checked the sword for hexes yourself.
"Ummm, Carl? You do know I can hear you right? Sarah smiled.
"Ugh, sorry about that, how do I work this, Carl muttered.
"I want to talk to Lia, don't go, Carl, Sarah suddenly said, she felt her confidence waver for a second.
"Are you sure? Came Carl's uncertain voice," I don't think that's a good-, Stop it!.
"You're in the way blue hair!, Lia shouted so loud it rung in Sarah's ear for a while, no more sounds were coming from the pea anymore.
"Lia? Carl?, Hello? Sarah stared at the small object in her palm, they're gone,"maybe I really shouldn't have tried talking to Lia, she laughed," what a dynamic, I wonder why Carl didn't mention her back then, she smiled. She got up from the ground squashed grass fell from her, "I guess I better keep this with me at all times, She said softly holding it close, she walked to her lab," now how do I do that.
"Is that her? Asked a man with a severely rounded face, his bald head gleaming in the setting sun.
"Yeah, came a squeaky sort of voice,"she's the last thing our assassin saw before we lost contact.
" A kid taking down one of our best assassins? Sure I would not have believed you if I hadn't seen her use that weapon, the bald man huffed taking the large pipe off his mouth, he blew the smoke onto the face of the smaller man, who wheezed and coughed. There were miles and miles away from the Rose manor but they could see Sarah as clear as day, Something small dark and bat like was fluttering over Sarah's lab it's one eye fixed on it.
"Should we just kill her? I mean we've been watching her for months and apart from her Intelligence she's rather weak even compared to other kids her age, Said the small man.
"Yh, I think so too, the larger man puffed his pipe again, letting a kid like that grow might come bite us in the future later, but we should consult our boss first,"I wouldn't want her breathing down my neck if we ruined one of her plans, sighed the man.
"You're right, the smaller man agreed, Let's go, there's no time to waste, a small magic circle appeared for and instant and the two men disappeared, the small creature still fluttering overhead Sarah's lab.
Bella? Bella? Don't Tell me you died in your sleep, scoffed Sarah tugging at Bella's clothes, it's nighttime, I don't want to spend the night here and you shouldn't either.
Bella's eyes opened a little, she stirred," 9 more hours, she moaned and started sleeping again.
"No! Sarah barked," get up or I'm using my teeth.
Bella sprang up instantly, she stumbled and swayed but stayed on her feet, she stopped as she approached the lab door," what's that buzzing sound? She asked.
"Oh wow a buzzing sound, Sarah said sarcasticly, all around them everything seems to be buzzing and bubbling.
"Oh, Bella said slowly. She got out of the lab and stopped again, she was staring at the sky, it was dark, barely any stars in the sky.
"Move!, Sarah barked pushing her out of the way, the golden ball in her hand.
"Do you sense that? Bella asked Sarah.
" I think you're forgetting I have no magical energy, Sarah replied setting down the ball," do you sense something?
"It's nothing, I'm probably more tired than I thought, Bella sighed taking her eyes off the sky. Sarah looked up, se couldn't make out anything in the darkness above.
She tapped the ball," this time I want you to Barr the entire lab rather than just the door," anyone that tires entering should be killed instantly, she whispered the last part. The ball twitched then expanded covering the entire shed in a golden armour.
She looked at Bella," well if you did sense something, there's nothing about being too careful, she grinned.
" Right, Bella said suspiciously," what was the last part you told the golden thing again? About tingling something?
"Yeah, it's going to vibrate anytime soon, Sarah lied effortlessly, it's good for the chemicals inside, she started pushing bella,"into the manor we go.
" Yeah I know I know, stop pushing me, Bella fought back.
