Chapter 56 - A New Beginning

Exclusive Bonus Chapter

Even though Chen Mo had already tried his best to imagine the place where he would be living long-term, when he actually arrived, he realized it was even bigger than he had expected.

More importantly, the house itself wasn't very large. It had two floors, with each floor only around seventy or eighty square meters at most, leaving the vast majority of the space to the yard.

It perfectly matched Chen Mo's needs.

"Brother Mo, I get you," Ah Hui said smugly.

"I know that with your personality, you don't really care how big your own living space is, but your Pokémon absolutely need enough room—good room."

He grinned proudly.

"Well? Not bad, right?"

"Yeah, I'm very satisfied," Chen Mo replied.

Hearing the praise, Ah Hui's smile grew even brighter. Having already gotten the keys, he directly led Chen Mo and Pichu inside, pushing open the door and walking straight into the living room.

"The guy who bought this villa was a friend of a friend," Ah Hui explained as he looked around the mostly empty living room.

"He told me he actually didn't like it much. After living here for a few days, he felt the place was too small—didn't feel impressive enough, didn't reflect his lifestyle. So he put it up for rent."

"Since he got bored so quickly, most of the furniture hasn't even been bought yet. You can move in today with no problem, Brother Mo, but later on you'll need to buy some furniture yourself."

"That's fine," Chen Mo said.

"I still have some furniture in my old apartment. I'll move it over later. I can buy the rest afterward."

"Alright, then after we finish looking around, I'll go with you," Ah Hui said.

"No need, no need. I can handle it myself. It's already pretty late today…"

"Hey, Brother Mo, I actually have a place here too. We're neighbors."

As he spoke, Ah Hui stood by the second-floor terrace and casually pointed toward a villa in the distance—one even larger than the one they were standing in.

Chen Mo: "..."

That said, with Ah Hui's help, the moving process went very smoothly. On top of that, Ah Hui drove over another car from his own place. With the two of them working together, they basically cleared out everything from Chen Mo's bachelor apartment in a single trip.

"That's about it, Brother Mo. I won't bother you anymore today. I'll come see Pichu and the others tomorrow."

After saying goodbye to Pichu on Chen Mo's shoulder, Ah Hui got into his car and drove back toward the distant villa.

It was easy to imagine that for quite some time in the future, Ah Hui would be a frequent visitor, casually dropping by.

Ever since clearing up the misunderstanding about Butterfree, that guy's fondness for Pokémon seemed to be growing stronger and stronger. Chen Mo couldn't help wondering what Ah Hui would be like once he finally got his first Pokémon. Would he get so excited that he scared it away?

Thinking of that, Chen Mo couldn't help but smile.

"Come on, let's go take a look at our new home."

"Pichu!"

In the backyard, Pichu was extremely satisfied with the new home. Having grown up in nature since it was young, stepping onto the familiar grass filled its face with pure happiness.

Pidgeotto, on the other hand, was as cool and composed as ever. It stood on the branch of a tall tree just outside the backyard, like a guard, quietly observing the surroundings of the villa.

Only after Chen Mo told it not to be so tense did Pidgeotto slowly close its eyes and rest against the tree trunk, following the habits it had formed back in Hongjingpo Forest.

As for Magikarp—who had very low requirements for living conditions—it remained exactly as before, lying motionless in the water-filled swimming pool, just like when it had been in the storage container.

Standing on the second-floor balcony, Chen Mo rested his crossed arms on the railing. From this excellent vantage point, he could clearly see the movements of all three Pokémon.

All in all—

A new beginning. Everything was good.

As the child of a real estate developer, Ah Hui had used the money given to him by his family from a young age to purchase properties in many places. He had long since begun living the carefree life of a landlord.

The villa next to Chen Mo's was actually one Ah Hui had only recently bought.

He was very optimistic about the environment here and believed it had room for appreciation. Originally, he'd planned to sell it at a suitable time in the future.

But now, because of Chen Mo's arrival, Ah Hui had immediately changed his mind. He decided to keep the place and use it as a regularly occupied home.

The reason was exactly the same as Chen Mo had guessed—for Chen Mo's group of Pokémon.

"…When will I finally have a Pokémon of my own?"

Lying on his bed, Ah Hui scrolled through the photos he'd taken on his phone that day. There were pictures of Pidgey, Pichu, Pidgeotto, and Magikarp—who looked exactly the same no matter how many times he photographed it.

Even so, he loved them all.

But why was he so fond of Pokémon?

Not long ago, he'd even been beaten up by a Butterfree.

"Does this count as some kind of Stockholm syndrome…?"

Ah Hui looked at one particular photo—Chen Mo and Pichu together, one human and one Pokémon gazing at each other. The emotions contained in that moment stirred a sense of envy deep in his heart.

"Ahhh, whatever! Next time, with Brother Mo's help, I will, absolutely will, capture a Pokémon and have it willingly follow me!"

Thinking that, Ah Hui opened his chat app and entered a small group called Pokémon Hut, which had only a few dozen members. He sent the photos he'd taken into the group.

Almost immediately, the once-quiet chat exploded.

[Holy crap, Hui-ge, you really went to meet Mo Bao!?]

[Hui-ge lives in Anping City anyway. Meeting Mo Bao offline isn't that surprising.]

[So jealous… Hui-ge, did you get to hold Pichu?]

[Hui-ge, tell us—was Pichu fluffy? Super comfy to touch?]

[Envy…]

Looking at the replies from this bunch—who hadn't even held a Pokémon once—Ah Hui finally felt satisfied.

"Heh, bunch of losers."

Just as he was about to brag about what it felt like to touch Pokémon in person, a private chat window suddenly popped up at the top of his screen.

The moment he saw the contact name, Ah Hui's heart sank.

He tapped it open.

A stream of images flooded in.

The final picture showed a garden. On the ground, on the walls, on carefully set bird perches, stood Pidgey and Pidgeotto everywhere.

And at the very front of the frame, with half her head visible and a small Pidgey perched on her shoulder, was none other than Feng Lan.

"Damn it!"

Ah Hui nearly smashed his phone on the spot.

Out of sight, out of mind. Just as he decided to turn off his phone, go to sleep early, and soothe his wounded heart tomorrow by visiting Pichu and the others—

Another private message popped up.

This time, it wasn't Feng Lan, but another familiar name—someone who had also suffered together with him during that wilderness camping trip.
