Chapter 20 - Regrouping

After that ceremony that made things awkward for both of them, what Twiggy and Geno spent the next two days doing was cleaning up the Silver Base.

After all, the massive battle between the Ethereals and the Terrorbirds hadn't shown any mercy.

It could be said that apart from a few specially reinforced building complexes, most of the structures had turned into ruins, just like everything else in the Hollow.

Fortunately, not too many useful things were destroyed.

Critical items like the Ether energy generator, the small-scale Ether isolation device, the supply warehouse, and the materials inside were all still intact.

What was destroyed the most were those administrative buildings and the documents inside, which were of questionable utility anyway.

As for the experimental data of the Silver Project, the researchers had taken it all with them originally. Even if there were leftovers, they were just inconsequential things.

So, very quickly, with Geno working around the clock, twenty-four hours a day, they finally cleared out a small living space and a micro-laboratory within the Silver Base.

The reason it was called 'micro' was that, apart from the therapeutic machines scavenged from the ruins and the messy wires connected to the power source, there was nothing else.

"Alright, now we just need to let them recuperate slowly. They should recover very soon."

Twiggy looked at the instrument dials, whose casings were already scrapped, checking on the condition of her sisters.

Luckily, their bodies were recovering well, and they would likely wake up soon.

"I guess you could say things are booming now."

"Sigh! You can't say that!"

"Why?"

"It's easy to get review-bombed."

...

She didn't understand, but she respected it.

It wasn't just a day or two that Geno had this habit of spouting nonsense; Twiggy was long used to it.

At times like this, it was best to just ignore him and let him play by himself.

Before long, he would come back to cling to you again.

"Eh! Geno! You really are here!"

A stranger's voice came from not far away. Although Twiggy didn't know who it was, it sounded like a girl, and she seemed very familiar with Geno.

However, to Twiggy's surprise, the girl walked right up to her.

"Why have you turned into this appearance again? Do you have some strange fetish?"

"Again? No, you're mistaken, I'm not..."

Twiggy's brilliant and wise brain clarified the situation in a single sentence: this Sheep Thirren miss had obviously mistaken her for Geno.

Before she could explain clearly, Geno, who had returned from his work, saw Lucia and was also extremely happy.

"Oh! Lucia! What are you doing here?"

Geno looked at the little sheep person bouncing over and was very delighted.

After all, having gone through life and death together, the relationship between the two wasn't that distant.

"Hmm..."

For some reason, she suddenly felt a bit uncomfortable in her heart.

Strange? Why was that?

"By the way, let me introduce you. Lucia, this is Twiggy. Twiggy, this is Lucia, the companion who helped me find medicine for you in the Silver Base."

"Hello."

"Hello, hello! I'm Lucia! Wow! You guys really look exactly the same!"

Lucia sized up Twiggy's face, which was identical to the Captain Anby that Geno had transformed into, lamenting how diverse the world truly was.

"Exactly the same?"

Twiggy was a bit puzzled. Geno had told Twiggy what happened that night, but he hadn't been very clear on some of the details.

"Regarding this, let me explain."

So Geno told Twiggy the matters concerning Anby, and both Twiggy and Lucia were somewhat surprised.

"Captain Anby... is dead? But, how is that possible?"

When Twiggy learned this news, her face was full of disbelief.

The Captain Anby who, in her heart, looked down on everything and was invincible in the world, had actually died?

She had clearly escaped successfully that day, so why did the mech records in the base register the news of her death?

"How is that possible? Then, what about Number 11?"

Suddenly, Twiggy remembered the sister who couldn't go on the mission that day due to injury, Number 11, Harin.

"That I don't know. All the Terrorbirds were destroyed in the battle with the Ethereals that night, and none of us are experts in electronic equipment."

To be honest, even if there were experts, they might not be able to retrieve anything. He had already looked at those Terrorbirds; to say they were torn to pieces would be an understatement. Let's just say the pieces were only slightly larger than minced meat.

"Since we can't figure it out, let's not think about it for now. Heehee, I brought delicious food! Do you want to eat together?"

Gurgle gurgle~

Smelling the aroma, Twiggy's stomach growled at just the right moment.

It couldn't be helped; it smelled too good. As a soldier, every one of her meals strictly followed a designated recipe. Although completely nutritious, the taste was truly nothing to compliment.

And after the disaster, it was even more of a 'eat whatever is available' situation, with no room to be picky.

Poor child; in her short life, she hadn't eaten any good meals.

Although she was still concerned about whether the two surviving sisters were safe, heaven and earth were big, but eating was the biggest. Just as Lucia said, if you can't figure out a problem, don't think about it for now.

The takeout Lucia brought this time finally let her experience what 'heavenly delicacy' meant.

"Woah, you really can eat."

Watching Twiggy gorging herself, Lucia's small mouth couldn't close.

A full three burgers, a roasted chicken, more than half a bowl of mashed potatoes, plus a fragrant and rich peach pie—all were stuffed into Twiggy's stomach.

"Cough, don't talk about it."

Twiggy felt incredibly embarrassed. She didn't usually have such a large appetite, so why did she eat so much today?

Could it be that good food really opens the appetite?

"Hahahaha, it's good to eat more. You have to eat more to grow up."

Geno didn't think much of it. After all, looking at their age, both of them were adolescent girls. What was wrong with eating more? As long as it grew in the places it should grow, there was absolutely no problem!

"Hmph, pervert."

"Yeah, I think so too. Geno, you're suspected of sexual harassment."

With this, Lucia and Twiggy became closer.

"Cough cough, so Geno, it's also time for us to consider our future direction of development."

"Pfft~"

"What are you laughing at?"

"Twiggy, you didn't wipe the ketchup off the corner of your mouth."

"..."

After giving Geno a knock on the head, Twiggy spoke solemnly again.

"It is time for us to consider our future development."

This time no one interrupted, and Geno began to think seriously.

His goal was simple: he just wanted to get out of the Hollow.

But as an Ethereal, his identity meant he couldn't survive in human society.

However, now that he had the transformation skill, as long as he didn't go to places with strict identity checks, his identity wouldn't be exposed.

In that case, there was only one thing he needed to overcome.

"I want to obtain a way to get out of the Hollow."
