Chapter 9 - ☆★☆Answer carefully! ☆★☆

Jay jays POV †††

The door opened a few seconds later.

Keifer stepped inside.

He didn't look nervous. Not really.

If anything, he looked… calm.

Almost too calm.

The officer behind him closed the door, leaving the three of us in the room.

Keifer sat down across from me without saying anything.

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Then Angelo broke the silence.

"You know why you're here."

Keifer leaned back slightly in his chair.

"I figured."

His voice was steady.

I watched his face carefully.

No shaking hands. No nervous glances.

Nothing.

Just calm.

Angelo placed a file on the table.

"Yuri told us something interesting," he said.

Keifer raised an eyebrow.

"Oh?"

"He said that after everyone left the mansion," Angelo continued, "you went back inside."

Keifer didn't answer right away.

He looked down at the table for a second.

Then back up at us.

"I forgot my phone," he said.

Angelo didn't move.

"And?"

"So I went back to get it."

"That's all?"

Keifer nodded once.

"That's all."

I studied his expression.

Still calm.

Too calm.

"You were alone?" I asked.

"Yes."

"For how long?"

"A minute maybe."

Angelo leaned forward slightly.

"A minute."

Keifer shrugged.

"Something like that."

I glanced at Angelo before asking the next question.

"When you went back inside," I said slowly, "did you see anyone?"

Keifer shook his head.

"No."

"Did you hear anything?"

Another small pause.

Then—

"No."

Something about that answer felt strange.

But I couldn't explain why.

Angelo slid a photo across the table.

The mansion's driveway.

"We saw someone near the driveway at 10:12," he said. "Do you know anything about that?"

Keifer glanced at the photo.

Just for a second.

Then he pushed it back slightly.

"Could've been Yuri," he said.

His voice stayed calm.

Like this whole situation didn't bother him at all.

I folded my arms.

"You don't seem very worried."

Keifer looked at me.

For a moment, his expression softened a little.

"Should I be?"

Angelo cut in before I could answer.

"Someone was murdered that night."

Keifer nodded once.

"I know."

Silence filled the room again.

I watched him carefully.

Every movement.

Every pause.

Trying to see if he would slip.

But he didn't.

Not once.

Finally Angelo stood up.

"That'll be all for now."

Keifer pushed his chair back and stood.

Before leaving, he glanced at me again.

Just for a second.

Then the officer opened the door and led him out.

The door shut.

Angelo looked at me.

"What do you think?"

I didn't answer right away.

Something about that conversation felt… off.

But I couldn't figure out what.

Not yet.
