Arthur froze, his face draining of all color. He stared at her, utterly incredulous, before slowly turning his head toward the Imperial sofa. "Carlos... you didn't. Tell me you didn't do it."

Carlos merely sighed, adjusting the cuffs of his dark robes with an air of pure, practical indifference. "He was the one who insisted on crossing. Therefore... I simply allowed it."

The calculation behind Carlos's betrayal snapped something inside Arthur. With a roar of pure, paternal rage, Arthur lunged forward, his iron fist swinging directly for Carlos's throat, intending to kill him then and there. "You absolute piece of trash! You put my son in that void?! We had a strict agreement!"

Carlos pivoted cleanly, avoiding the deadly blow by a mere fraction of an inch. "He demanded it, Arthur! Fighting me now changes nothing. It is a waste of energy."
