Evangeline opened her eyes to the soft morning light filtering through the velvet drapes, instantly meeting the sight of golden locks scattered across the silk pillows before her. She reached out a pale, slender hand, tenderly brushing the stray tresses away from his sharp features. A rare, unbidden smile slowly spread across her face. For the first time in as long as she could remember, the other side of her grand royal bed was no longer hollowed by a cold, suffocating emptiness.
