Chapter 72 - Change

Kevin was currently sitting at my bedside, waiting for me to wake up from my coma.

He seemed to be in his own world, trying to sort through his thoughts. He didn't get the chance to talk about what he felt through his evolution before his master ultimately collapsed.

When his evolution began, he felt memories arise in his head, memories that weren't his yet they were from someone who had the exact same face and name. Kevin.

He remembered the journey of a normal human who was forced to be a hero and in the end losing everything anyway. A man who had made a promise that pushed him for fifty thousand years and in the end, his will was defeated by his own decendant, where he happily relinquished his promise to her.

This sudden influx of memories put him in high alert but the content of these memories put him into a state of contemplation, " Was this what master expected of me?"

The other reason he wanted his master to wake up was so that he could inform him of the stuff that had happened during his rest.

Kevin did not have to wait long though. Just as he was thinking about the future, something happened. The sleeping man's body began to emit light, his body itself seemed to break down and then rebuild itself anew.

[Evolution into Elemental king… successful]

[New intrinsic skills: Formless, Chaos authority… successful]

[Accommodating digital nature]

After the light disappeared, the man's eyes began to flutter open and he had sat up from the bed, "Awe, how long was I out for?"

"About two weeks."

I sighed at the response, "Of course. Did anything happen while I was out?"

"Gehrman had been met by Guy Crimson and Velzard as you have predicted."

"I see."

"Also there something else I want to ask but right now you have a visitor." He said while pointing behind himself.

I looked behind him to find Shizu sitting there patiently, waiting for my awakening, "Kevin, I'll meet you later."

He left the room which left me and Shizu alone, "I assume you're aware of what I did?" I asked which Shizu followed up with a nod, " You have questions. Go ahead and ask them."

" Um, why did you do it?" Shizu asked sheepishly.

" I wanted to isolate myself from the world. That's one of the reasons that I created this place, it's meant to be my home but if I were to go berserk then this place is also meant to be my prison." I replied calmly.

"Why have I not been affected?"

"Those with the triquetra are unaffected by the oblivion trigger, only those who can access Eden will still have there memories intact. For the record, I haven't erased their memories."

Shizu perked up from this, "You haven't?"

"No, the memories are in storage and I can give it back at anytime."

" That's gre-"

" I'm not gonna do it though that would defeat the original purpose of what I'm trying to do in the first place."

Shizu became downcast from this, " You're a real coward Teach."

Her direct approach stunned me to an almost unbelievable degree, " Excuse me!"

" You heard me! You're a goddamn coward!" Shizu yelled at me in frustration. Her face holding a lot of anger.

Without me getting a word out, Shizu immediately ran out of there, leaving me to my thoughts and anger. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't angry at Shizu's sudden brazen behaviour.

I walked out of my room and found Nyx and Amanises standing outside my door. They were curious to what had happened, after Shizu had ran out in an outburst.

" Would you mind telling us what had happened just now." Nyx had asked with a mock smile.

"Shut up, I need to think." I felt disgruntled by the sudden outburst from Shizu, I was not in the mood for whatever Nyx had to offer.

Amanises: "You're really not gonna tell us? Was it really that intense?"

Simon: "It's not-"

Nyx: "Dad just tell us, we won't judge you…ok maybe a little."

I just sighed at her joke, "Shizu says I'm a coward for erasing everyone's memory to protect Guy and Velzard." The two beside me looked at each other and then back at me with their eyebrows raised, "Wait you guys agree with her?!"

"Dad, no offense, but what you did was just wrong. I have other reasons for opposing this decision but it kinda was cowardly." Nyx was very adamant in her opinion.

"Not to mention that what you did had the opposite affect, if you haven't noticed your mood has become more foul since you triggered Oblivion."

"I-"

Without me noticing, Amanises and Nyx had made a silent agreement. Amanises had left the room while Nyx stayed and layed her head against my shoulder.

" So what's your reason?"

" My reason for what?" Nyx acted clueless.

" Don't play dumb, What's your reason for disapproving of the memory wipe?"

Nyx smiled when I presented the question, although that smile contained a hint of sorrow, " Let me answer that with another question. What was your first ever ultimate skill?"

" Huh! It was Elysia, you know this already."

" And what was Elysia born from initially? And what does it represent?" She followed with another question.

"It was born from my raw determination and it represents freewill and choice."

"Now tell was it fair to remove Guy and Velzard's memories, to remove a choice from them without consent? You erased their freewill."

Her words had shocked me, she was completely right, I had taken their freewill and choice.

" And yet clearly you did it for nothing ocnsidering your mood had become far more foul. Shizu was also right in the fact that you took the cowardly way out, is against your entire style."

" If this is really how you have become like then clearly you have lost yourself already, you have compromised everything about yourself to prevent becoming a monster and yet you have only come closer to it."

Nyx had prepared to leave in fear that she might have taken it to far and then…

" AH!"

She yelped in fear when I grabbed her wrist before she could leave, she was now mentally preparing herself for the worst. She was contemplating whether releasing all her frustration as once was the right thing but now all she could resign herself to whatever her father had in-store for her.

She closed her eyes and braced for impact only to find a warm pair of arms pulling her into her father's slender frame, " Thank you Nyx, I really needed that." I released my hug which caused Nyx to see the tears come from my eyes.

Nyx immediately began using Spiritualist and investigating the changes in my emotions. At first, Nyx's initial interest in emotions had been to help me with my emotional state but overtime it had become a hobby and obsession. As a result, her research in the emotional state and spiritual body had become unparrelled in the world.

As Nyx was doing what I like to call spiritual examination, I had one single thought in my head, 'I really have to change.'
