Chapter 72 - The Invitation

Bang, bang, bang!

The crisp knocking, though faint, echoed clearly in the silent night.

Roland frowned, momentarily ignoring the flashing golden subtitles before him. His right hand slowly tightened around the hilt of his iron sword at his waist.

Just as he was about to investigate, a familiar voice called from outside the door.

"Roland? Are you asleep?"

Hearing the voice, Roland's tense shoulders relaxed instantly.

He sheathed his iron sword with practiced ease and hurried to the door, opening it.

In the dim candlelight, Darco's golden hair still shimmered with dazzling brilliance.

Roland sighed helplessly. "Darco, why are you here so late? Is something urgent?"

"Haha! I knew you were still awake!"

"Shh!"

Roland raised a finger to his lips, stepped aside to make way, and lowered his voice. "Keep it down. I don't mind, but the other guests are asleep."

Darco immediately covered his mouth and tiptoed inside.

Roland closed the door and poured a glass of water from a wooden cup, handing it to Darco.

"Tell me, why did you come here so late? Are you leaving tomorrow?"

Darco took the water cup, thanked Roland, and tilted his head back to drink it down in one gulp.

After the last gurgle of swallowing, the young noble finally spoke.

"Roland, have you heard of the Sea God Festival?"

"The Sea God Festival?" Roland raised an eyebrow and sat down on a wooden chair nearby. "I think I heard some merchants at the fish market mention it. Isn't it an annual celebration at Far Ocean Port?"

"That's right!" Darco snapped his fingers decisively, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "His Majesty Monen just issued an order summoning us nobles to attend the Sea God Festival in two days. Once the celebration is over, we can finally set off."

Roland nodded slightly, but then frowned. "What does this have to do with me?"

"How can it not concern you? You have no idea..." Darco suddenly realized he'd raised his voice again, quickly covered his mouth, and lowered his voice to continue. "You have no idea how lively the Sea God Festival is!"

The young noble rubbed his hands together excitedly. "The entire port transforms into a massive marketplace. The food stalls alone number over a hundred! The most famous dish is deep-sea squid skewers, freshly caught and grilled, coated in a special seaweed powder. They're incredibly fresh and flavorful!"

He swallowed hard and continued.

"The daytime parade is even more spectacular. Dozens of performance troupes march along the coastal avenue. The most popular is the Shell Dance Troupe, whose dancers wear pearl-studded skirts and form various ocean wave shapes. There are also fishermen on stilts dressed as legendary sea giants, standing a full three stories tall!"

"As the tide recedes in the evening, everyone gathers on Golden Beach to dig for treasure. The priests bury various trinkets beforehand, including genuine pearl necklaces and gold-plated shell commemorative coins."

Watching the young noble practically dancing with excitement, Roland smiled faintly.

"So? You're not sad anymore?"

Darco's expression faltered, then he waved his hand dismissively.

"I just realized you're right, Roland. My father is so strong, he'll definitely wake up. Besides..."

He scratched his head, a flicker of confusion in his eyes.

"Even if I panic and run around now, it won't help my father's condition in the slightest. Instead of that..."

Darco suddenly clenched his jaw, as if remembering someone.

"I'd rather pull myself together and refuse to let those bastards laugh at me!"

"That's the spirit." Roland patted his shoulder approvingly. All those days of counseling hadn't been in vain.

"So... you're inviting me to the Sea God Festival?"

"Not just that."

Darco chuckled awkwardly and leaned in closer.

"On the day of the Sea God Festival, His Majesty Monen will host a banquet at the Sea Pearl Pavilion. According to protocol, every noble must bring at least one attendant."

"So... you want me to be your attendant?"

"Just in name only!" Darco hastily draped an arm around Roland's shoulders. "With our friendship, how could I truly treat you like an attendant? It's just..." He scratched his cheek awkwardly. "Having you by my side would make me feel more at ease. After all, we'll be meeting His Majesty Monen. To be honest, the thought of facing this legendary figure has my heart pounding."

"Hmm..."

After hearing this, Roland fell into thought.

His trip to Far Ocean Port had been incredibly fruitful. He had successfully brewed the Spirit Summoning Potion, awakened the Consciousness Shoal, mastered the trick, and smoothly advanced to the high-tier class of Juggler.

Now, aside from continuing to practice Fire Arrow, there was truly nothing pressing left to do. And the cultivation of Fire Arrow required consistent daily practice anyway.

Confirming that he had no immediate obligations, Roland nodded slightly.

"Alright, just give me advance notice. But..." He glanced down at his simple attire and added, "Since it's just a pretense, shouldn't you provide the clothing?"

"Leave it to me!"

Seeing Roland agree, Darco thumped his chest excitedly.

"I'll prepare all the necessary attire. You just need to stick by my side. Don't worry at all."

Listening to Darco's endless stream of instructions, Roland couldn't help but inwardly scoff.

What did he have to be nervous about?

He had no criminal record and a clean background.

Moreover, King Monen's banquet would undoubtedly be heavily guarded, so safety was hardly a concern.

It would simply be a formality, with the added bonus of tasting royal cuisine—a truly relaxed and enjoyable experience.

"Alright, Darco," Roland said, raising his hand to interrupt Darco's impending lecture. "Since the Sea God Festival is still a few days away, why don't we continue this conversation during the day?"

"Ah, yes, that's a good idea," Darco replied, finally realizing it was late at night. After a few more casual exchanges, he quietly slipped out the door.

"Whew."

Watching Darco safely depart under the protection of several guards from the window, Roland sighed in resignation before turning his attention back to his Job Panel.

[High-tier class Blacksmith detected. Job Resonance triggered.]

[Job Resonance]

[Juggler + Blacksmith]

[Obtained additional bonus: Steel Heart Resonance]

Steel Heart Resonance: Whether it's steel forged by your own hands or a weapon crafted by another, with just a few simple movements, you can grasp its center of gravity, resilience, and balance. A heavy battleaxe feels as nimble as your own arm, while a slender short sword can deliver a blow with the force of a thunderclap. This isn't brute strength, but absolute mastery of metal and mechanics—an almost intuitive affinity for weapons.

"So, basically..."

Roland summarized the lengthy description.

"It means I can quickly master any weapon and use it with effortless grace, making heavy weapons feel light and light weapons feel heavy?"

Thinking this, Roland casually drew the iron sword from his waist.

The once heavy blade suddenly felt perfectly balanced in his hand.

With a casual swing, the normally clumsy chop transformed into a swift silver arc, as nimble as a short sword's strike, the sound of the blade slicing through the air like a bee's buzz.

Raising an eyebrow slightly, Roland then drew the dagger from his waist.

The blade, meant to be agile and nimble, spun in his wrist and descended with the crushing force of a battleaxe, silently cleaving a smooth, angled notch into the edge of the wooden table.

"Interesting."

Feeling the peculiar sensation of wielding the two vastly different weapons, Roland nodded slowly.

After re-examining the Juggler's traits and the additional benefits gained from resonating with the other two high-tier classes, a satisfied expression spread across Roland's face.

"I never expected such an unassuming class name to come with such powerful traits and bonus effects."

"If a high-tier class is this strong, what about the advanced class, the Enchanter? Right."

As the thought of the Enchanter crossed Roland's mind, his gaze drifted downward to its job requirements.
