Chapter 10 - Teaching the Son and the Godfather

New York, Hell's Kitchen, inside the Good Fortune Restaurant.

Chen Ye was standing in front of the restaurant bar, holding his phone and talking to someone.

"Did you see the news just now? My dear godson." The voice of Kingpin came from the other end of the phone.

"Thanks to you, I made a lot of money this time. It's faster and easier than my other businesses. Hahahaha," Kingpin laughed heartily.

It turned out that Kingpin had called because of the news about Tony Stark closing down his weapons factories.

"You've made a lot, right? As for when to sell, I believe you have professionals there to handle it, Uncle Kingpin. So, next, the Community College I mentioned, can we start preparing it?" Chen Ye immediately interjected.

"I'm already preparing it for you, but I'll tell you. There will be a lot of resistance in this matter. The other people in Hell's Kitchen aren't as easy to talk to as I am."

"Even if I hadn't made money this time, wouldn't I have provided for you? My dear godson. You won't even call me godfather," Kingpin complained.

"You know I don't believe in religion, and I don't think you do either. If it weren't for my deadbeat dad..." Chen Ye said, annoyed.

Kingpin didn't get angry at Chen Ye's words. If others in Hell's Kitchen saw Kingpin chatting and laughing on the phone like this, they'd probably be shocked.

"Don't talk about your father like that. I think the best decision he ever made was letting you become my godson."

"I don't know why you had to build a school and run a restaurant after you came back to Hell's Kitchen. If things don't work out, you can come back and take over my position. I can retire early," Kingpin continued.

"Come on, you still have Richard. Why me?" Chen Ye immediately refused.

"You know, Richard isn't cut out for this. If he entered this world, he'd be devoured, not even a speck left. I just want him and Vanessa to live a peaceful life," Kingpin said helplessly.

"We'll see, we'll see. If I take over, a lot of your businesses will have to be cut off, you know me. By then, your subordinates might be able to tolerate it, but I estimate that it won't just be Hell's Kitchen, the entire dark world will be in chaos," Chen Ye explained.

"I'll be coming to see you with Vanessa and Richard this weekend for dinner. It's been a while since you started your part-time job, and you haven't seen them. Vanessa says she misses you, you little rascal. No arguments, it's settled," Kingpin said, his tone leaving no room for disagreement.

That's right, this Kingpin was the big villain of Hell's Kitchen, whose full name was Wilson Fisk. He was a tall man, with only two percent body fat.

At least 40% of the criminal activities in the entire Marvel Universe were related to him. If you mentioned the heroes of Hell's Kitchen, you might immediately think of Spider-Man and Daredevil.

But if you mentioned the villains of Hell's Kitchen, there could only be one, and only one: Kingpin. No other villain was as deeply imprinted in people's minds as he was.

Actually, Chen Ye didn't dislike Kingpin. Unlike the other villains in Marvel who wanted to destroy the world or conquer it, Kingpin just wanted to make money in a proper way, whatever made money, he would do. Of course, his way of making money wasn't entirely right. At least, Chen Ye thought he and gambling and drugs were irreconcilable.

Secondly, Kingpin was the only normal human in Marvel, not relying on mutations or background. He relied entirely on his own training and hard work to learn and make money, escaping Hell's Kitchen, and climbing to the top step by step. Did he need to be like a certain Spider-Man, who lived in the slums, and even when he had abilities, he didn't work hard to make money? He just flew around every day, and in the end, his uncle died, he got cheated on, and he got fired from his job. Chen Ye didn't object to them fighting evil and promoting good, but they couldn't even live their own lives well, nor could their family members.

They were single-mindedly saving some unimportant people. Sorry, Chen Ye said he couldn't do that. Comics were, after all, comics. The people in them became heroes for the sake of becoming heroes. When the comics became reality, many people had to struggle for a few pennies. How could they have time to care about others?

When Chen Ye was just born, his deadbeat dad had asked Kingpin to be his godfather.

Most people probably think that a godfather is the same as a "godfather" in Chinese culture.

In fact, the Western godfather is related to religious activities. Families with religious beliefs will have their newborns baptized by clergy in a church some time after birth.

The newborn will swear to always be loyal to God, and so on, but at that time the newborn hasn't even grown teeth, so it's impossible for them to speak.

So, generally, the child's biological parents will speak for them. Later on, the biological parents don't have to do it anymore; they find the parents' best friend to say this sentence for the child. This man is called the godfather, and the woman is called the godmother.

Moreover, the godfather or godmother doesn't just do it for free; they have the obligation to supervise the child's growth. And after the child's biological parents pass away, when the child has no one to raise them, they need to fulfill the responsibilities of the biological parents.

So, a godfather has more obligations than a "godfather."

But, who made Chen Ye experience the five thousand years of culture of a great nation in his previous life, and be an atheist? If he were to believe in anything, it would be that Monkey King or the ancient gods of China. It's really a bit difficult for him to call someone "godfather."

Kingpin is also a money-oriented person and didn't force Chen Ye to call him that. But their relationship is still very close.

Vanessa is Kingpin's wife, and Richard, whose full name is Richard Fisk, is Kingpin and Vanessa's child. In many Marvel universes, Kingpin's wife and child have died at the hands of Kingpin's enemies. It's a bit like the relationship between Spider-Man and Spider-Man's uncle, where they are sacrificed to force the protagonist to level up.

In other parallel universes, Kingpin, after the death of his child, abandoned the idea of retiring and became even crazier. He nearly caused World War IV, mainly because Kingpin had enemies all over the world. Eventually, he realized that a king shouldn't have any attachments and started down the path of killing his wife. It truly embodies the phrase, "When there is no woman in your heart, your blade becomes a god."

However, since Chen Ye had transmigrated and had this relationship with Kingpin, he certainly wouldn't let such a thing happen. Moreover, because of Chen Ye's influence, Kingpin had become much more restrained. He wasn't as cruel and cold-blooded as the Kingpin in other Marvel stories, nor did he do many harmful things; otherwise, Chen Ye wouldn't be able to live with his conscience. Furthermore, the Kingpin in the comics was really good at stirring up trouble. Not to mention ordinary superheroes like Daredevil, Punisher, and Spider-Man, he even provoked the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.

If Chen Ye hadn't been holding him back, it was estimated that 90% of the superheroes in the world would have been enemies with Kingpin. Therefore, Chen Ye had always taught Kingpin to make a fortune in silence.

"By the way, Hell's Kitchen hasn't been very peaceful recently. A few days ago, when you weren't here, some rats tried to enter your restaurant, but my people stopped them. Also, people from The Hand and The High Table have been appearing frequently in Hell's Kitchen lately, seemingly looking for someone," Kingpin reminded Chen Ye.

"Be careful yourself. I'll also go ask those people. Hmph, causing trouble on my turf without even greeting me, do they really think I, Kingpin, am a pushover? Others may fear The High Table, but I'm not afraid. You're just a bunch of petty organizations that can't be put on the table."

"Alright, I'll pay attention. I'm not afraid of them coming; it just so happens that renovating the school still needs a lot of money," Chen Ye said indifferently.
