Chapter 16 - chapter sixteen:Strangers Beneath Crystal Skies

One month after the tournament, life within Noxvale flowed with engineered perfection.

Cities pulsed with order.

Kingdoms thrived with precision.

Peace endured — not as a fragile dream, but as a system sustained by Elena's design.

Within the Human Kingdom, morning unfolded with quiet elegance.

White crystal avenues gleamed beneath drifting golden light. Citizens moved through gardens sculpted by magic itself, fountains humming softly with restorative enchantments. Crystal broadcasts shimmered along public plazas, replaying performances, news, and spectacles from across the valley.

Everything breathed stability.

Control.

Harmony.

Until reality fractured.

No thunder split the sky.

No explosion tore the earth.

Only —

A ripple.

Silent.

Violent.

Unnatural.

At the kingdom's outer districts, where civilization softened into wilderness, space twisted like disturbed water. At the kingdom's outer gates, five strangers emerged from swirling mist.

Kael Varyn landed first, armor clanging, muscles coiled.

"…That was definitely not normal," he muttered, gripping his massive blade.

Beside him, the mage — now named Seris Valenne — scanned the surroundings with sharp violet eyes. Her arcane sigils flickered nervously.

"…This ambient magic… it's too dense. Impossible," she whispered.

Drogath's axes hummed faintly as he stepped forward, muscles tensing.

Mira's golden eyes reflected the pristine world around them, shadows subtly curling along her form.

Riven Ash twirled a dagger casually, grin frozen mid-smile as the reality of the place sank in.

Without warning, figures clad in human armor emerged from the gates. Not one, not two — dozens.

"WEAPONS DOWN!" a crystalline voice commanded.

The strangers barely had time to react before glowing handcuffs snapped around their wrists.

These were no ordinary restraints. Mechanic handcuffs infused with nullification runes. The moment they locked into place, magic collapsed.

Seris' sigils died. Drogath's axes dimmed. Mira's shadows receded. Kael's blade hummed in protest. Even Riven's tricks fizzled.

"…They're… nullifying us?" Seris gasped.

Kael's grip tightened on his sword. "…This kingdom is terrifying."

The guards moved efficiently, guiding the restrained strangers toward a hovering transport vehicle. Its surface shimmered with magic, levitating silently. No horses, no wheels — just pure arcane engineering.

Riven muttered, "…Yeah, now I KNOW we're in trouble."

The strangers were lifted into the vehicle without resistance. Inside, the containment sigils glowed faintly, holding them firmly in place as the vehicle glided toward the Human Kingdom's prison complex.

Outside the gates, the citizens of the Human Kingdom merely watched. No panic, no chaos, only calm observation. This was law, order, and authority — absolute.

And high above, unseen by anyone, Elena's silver eyes gleamed as she observed every movement through her network of crystal surveillance. A faint smile curved her lips.

"Interesting," she murmured. "…this could be fun."

The police captain awaited them at the prison. Dark uniform, piercing gaze, calm but commanding. His presence alone demanded obedience.

"Arriving without clearance," he began, voice steady. "Without identification. Without permission. Now, explain yourselves."

The five strangers could only glare, restrained and powerless, realizing the Human Kingdom had already won the first round of this battle — before a single question had even been fully asked. Finally, the captain spoke, voice steady and precise.

"You have arrived in the Human Kingdom without clearance. No identification. No record. No prior permission. Explain yourselves."

Kael stepped forward, jaw tight. "…We don't know how we got here . One moment we were traveling… the next, we were…" He gestured vaguely, frustration clear. "…here."

The captain raised an eyebrow. "Vague answers do not satisfy the law. Powers cannot excuse your presence. Your intentions will determine how long you remain detained."

Seris' voice cut in, calm but firm. "…We mean no harm. We seek only understanding — why we are here, and what this place is."

The captain's gaze sharpened. "Curiosity without approval is dangerous. Your arrival triggers protocols for unregistered individuals. You will remain restrained until we determine the origin of your intrusion. One false move, and consequences will escalate."

Riven muttered under his breath, "…Yeah, yeah, escalation… got it."

Kael clenched his fists, glaring at the captain. But even his fire was useless. Only Elena, watching silently from afar through her crystal network, could bend the rules now.

The five were left standing in tense silence, the magnitude of the Human Kingdom's authority pressing on them from all sides, each heartbeat echoing in the chamber of crystal and steel.
