Chapter 22 - Chapter 22. Wanted To Cuddle

Annie made her way down to the kitchen after have a much needed shower, her stomach grumbling after 36 or so hours of nothing.

Her step-mother stood there in the kitchen, the same three plates of food set, a lump in Annie's throat formed as she looked at the food for the family. But not for her, and for the first time since she had arrived, she felt a certain way about her step-mother never bothering to make something- even something small, for Annie.

Annie shook the feelings away. To her it was no use to dwell on something where she knew- from past experience, would only cause a fight and nothing would change.

Annie stalked out the door and headed towards the Hawthorne residence. Knocking on the dark brown heavy door, Annie stood patiently waiting.

Moments later Kia opened the door. A smile forming on Kia's face as she saw Annie standing on her porch. "Annie dear, good morning, what do I owe this pleasure?" Kia asked, ushering her inside the house.

"I was wondering if I could have breakfast with you," Annie asked, nervous to what Kia would reply with.

"Of course dear! Don't like the food Margaret prepared?" Kia laughed. Kia liked Margaret but she was well aware of her flaws, and being a little to self-involved was definitely one of them. It wouldn't surprise Kia if Margaret purposely made food that Annie didn't like.

"Something like that," Annie mumbled as they headed to the Hawthorne's kitchen.

Kia brought out three pans, assuming she was going to do all the work, but Annie quickly brought her butter and eggs, before turning back to the fridge and grabbing other ingredients.

"Annie dear, sit down, you don't need to be cooking in my kitchen," Kia scolded as Annie grabbed a bowl and started mixing things together.

"Kia, let me help you," Annie giggled at the older woman.

Kia grumbled a fine and let Annie do what she wanted, and if helping her in the kitchen was what Annie wanted- then she was going to let her.

Soon Annie was flipping pancakes and checking on breakfast muffins as Kia flipped eggs and bacon, while also making toast.

"I can handle this if you want to go wake up Ethan, I think he had a late night last night-" Kia mumbled the last sentence while continuing, "he's been having a lot of those recently, I'm worried about him."

"I'm sure he is okay Kia, if he was struggling with something I'm sure he would go to you," Annie reassured, though she had a good idea as to why he was up so late- because of her. She made a note to herself to tell him to go to bed, not to wait up for her. "I'll go wake him," Annie smiled at Kia before heading up the stairs.

As Annie stood infront of the dark brown door of Ethans room, she knocked twice but received no reply. 'Is it an intrusion to just.. step into his room without an invitation?' Annie wondered to herself.

She knocked again but got no reply, hesitantly she opened the door, peaking her head in.

His room was clean, slightly shadowed from the morning light seeping through his window. Annie's eyes scanned his room until they fell onto his bed, where his sleeping form lay relaxed.

Annie took careful, quiet steps inside his room before she tapped his shoulder, "Ethan," she tapped his shoulder again, "Ethan, breakfast is going to be ready soon-"

Swiftly Ethan's arms outstretched, pulled Annie down to his chest, he pulled her to lay directly ontop of him, he still lay deep in slumber. His breathing heavy but even.

"E-Ethan," Annie stuttered, a blush creeping up her cheeks. "Wakeup!" She nudged him again.

As her hand rested on his chest she noticed there was no fabric on his skin. Annie's fingers molded to each divet on his chest and she tried to pull herself up, "Ethan," Annie hissed.

Ethan burried his face in the crook of her neck before a long sigh escaped his lips. "Did you sneak into my bed last night BabyDoll?" His deep, sleep filled voice echoed into the crook of her neck, sending goosebumps up her body. Her blush becoming warmer.

"I didn't!" She hissed at him.

"Oh just wanted to cuddle a little then?" He asked, Annie could feel the smirk of his lips against her skin.

"W-what, n-no!" Annie stuttered, flustered, "let me go!" Annie wiggled in his embrace.

Ethan pulled her closer for just a moment longer before letting her go. "Hmm, I could wake up like that everyday," his voice rough morning voice seemed to brush every nerve in Annie's body.

"Breakfast is about to be ready," Annie said hurriedly before running out of his room in a dash, as she shut the door to his bedroom she leaned against the wall, trying to find her composure.

Taking a few shakey breaths, Annie sits up from the wall and headed back to the kitchen where Kia stood.

Kia was in the middle of plating the many different types of food, each plate filled to the brim. "Are you trying to fatten me up Kia?" Annie giggled as she took her plate to the dining room table.

"No Annie," Kia laughed, "just making sure my guest is full and not going home hungry is all," she smiled kindly at Annie.

"Well thank you Kia, I appreciate it," Annie smiled.

"Anytime dear! I love having another girl around! I'd be more then grateful if this became an everyday thing," Kia smiled kindly, setting her plate down at the table, followed by Ethan's plate.

Just as Annie and Kia sat at the table Ethan walked into the room. His black hair wet from his shower, the occasional water drop falling from the strands.

He wore sweatpants and a sweater as he stalked towards the table, taking his seat between the woman, "good morning Mom," he said, giving her a kiss on her head as he sat. "Good morning Annie," he smiled followed by a wink in Annie's direction.

"Good morning dear."

"Good morning Ethan."
