Chapter 2 - The hardest choice

"Oh, who could have thought that you would chose the hardest choice."

"Eh?"

Vin stunned after he heard what The Distillator said.

"Well, your choice is indeed will make you have an easier time compared to his, but it was still the second hardest choice. You would still a lot of luck and mental fortitude. And a little advice from me, you better don't stick too long with others. Being a loner would makes this way easier for you."

The Distillator suddenly stopped being apologetic toward Vin as the orb Vin had chosen slowly dissolved into his palm.

"It will be depends on how fast you adapted to this world, but I wonder how fast would be able to do that? Now this is something of my interest~..."

Vin took a step back and looked at the man warily. He sensed something dangerous from the man.

Vin opened his mouth, about to demand The Distillator's explanation about what he was talking about.

Everything seems normal...? Thought Vin uncertainly.

"Yes, normal. That's the problem lies," Said the Distillator.

Vin frowned.

"What do you mean—"

He was about to asks him again but got interrupted yet again.

"Then, since I had redeemed my mistake, I'll take my leave here. May luck bless you, Mister Vin."

Then he disappeared just as instant as he appeared before, vanished into thin air, as if he was not even there from the first place.

Vin could only slump his shoulders and sighed.

"At least give me some introductory about how the stats, level, skill, and everything works in this world..." He complained softly.

'Hm, but since the status were similar to how RPG game's character status looked like, maybe the way it worked also similiar?'

Vin spent some time to understanding his status as well as he could using Appraisal. As the result, he had now gained a rough understanding about status and stats.

"It's just like a game... Is there a chance that this world was a game world?" Vin muttered to himself jokingly.

He then checked his surroundings.

Trees, grass, bushes... Basically it was just a normal forest, nothing special to be mentioned at all.

"Is there any settlement nearby? That guy, he left without giving me any hint at all... Anyway, I should immediately move out of this forest. Like in games, maybe this world also have monsters. I don't want to die meaninglessly after just transmigrated..."

With that mindset, Vin began wandering around the forest while trying to find a way out of this forest and the location of the nearest Human's settlement.

He using Appraisal to identifies everything since he didn't have anything to do except appraising every stuff he found while exploring the forest.

Walking on the forest terrain is not as enjoyable as most might imagined. There's a lot of barks threatening to tripping you when you carelessly taking steps, and even some leaves could scratch your skin, even irritating it if your skin was sensitive. Not to mention the existence of insects.

"Good thing this body is stronger..."

Vin could thanks his new body for that.

His appearance hadn't changed much after he consumed the Bloodline orb, but his body now felt way lighter and powerful.

Mosquitoe, ant, no one of them could scratch his skin anymore, let alone mere leaves. He even almost believed that he had become a superhuman.

But that fact only put more puzzle to the reason why The Distillator said that Holy Brilliance is the second Hardest choice.

"I don't see any flaw so far... So why he..."

While he was pondering about that, his thought suddenly being interrupted after he stumbled upon a shallow, small river.

"Ohh! A river! A good sign!"

The river was only about 50 cm width with depth less than 20 cm. The water flowing from a rocky hill vaguely visible from behind the cover of leaves and trees at the Vin's left side.

It was near, only about 200 meters away from where Vin was currently standing.

Without much thought, the excited Vin immediately headed toward the hill. He believed that getting out of this forest was the first step to find his first settlement after being transmigrated into this world.

Ten minutes later, he finally got there.

Unexpectedly, his first encounter with Human of this world was fast.

Currently before him, atop the hill, he could see a sparse group of people moving around mismatched huts and shanties.

But their conditions looks terrible. Their clothes dirty and had holes, their body thin like branches, and even their complexion is pale.

Now that he was in the open, he finally noticed that there was corpses lying around the hill, their dried blood was staining the rock surface.

Vin's pupils dilated, his body trembling.

"W-what in the world... Is happening here?"

He covered his mouth to resist the foul smell lingering in the air and the urge to empty his stomach.

Now he began hesitating whether to approach them or not. His previous excitement subsides down.

When he was hesitating, a figure of a young boy captured his attention as he ran out of the forest while carrying a basket of eggs. Then the boy trippled on a pointy rock and fell.

Fortunately he covered the basket well with his body, so the eggs was fine. But now he was vulnerable for his pursuers to attack.

A green big snake suddenly lunged at the boy from the forest, its snout revealing its sharp fangs.

Vin moved his body before he could even finish processing the situation he was faced after seeing that.

He ran and stopped at the track of the snake to intercept its attack.

He then swung his right arm toward the gabing snout of the snake.
