Chapter 8 - Hunters often appear as prey

"Alright, what do you want this time? I'm very busy every day; I don't have time to play childish games with you."

Mobius sat back in her office chair with her arms crossed, looking at the two people in front of her. It was rare for her to have newcomers here, but considering Elysia brought them, it wasn't so strange.

"Oh, don't say that ♪, actually, I do have a small favor to ask Mobius this time, but the most important thing is that I was afraid you were lonely ♪"

Mobius sneered disdainfully, looking at Elysia, who was eating the candy she had bought. She didn't believe Elysia's words were sincere.

"Why should I help you? Elysia, are you really so confident that I'll do you this favor?"

Mobius wasn't falling for it; her tone was icy, but her gaze never met Elysia's.

Phainon's mood was a bit complex right now. He didn't know if he should be nervous. After all, judging by Mobius's stance, she didn't seem to want to help Elysia, yet Elysia didn't look flustered at all, as if she had already seen through the other party.

This made him feel very strange, and he wasn't too sure, so he decided to keep quiet for now and continue to observe. After all, it seemed like his involvement wouldn't be needed for a while.

However, just as Phainon finished that thought, Elysia pointed her small hand directly at him.

"I just want Mobius to help him get an identity. It doesn't need to be anything special, a normal identity will do. Mmm! This candy is delicious, where did you buy it? I'll find a chance to buy some too ♪"

Elysia seemed to selectively ignore Mobius's previous words, which made the latter's expression very interesting. Mobius twitched her lips.

She snatched the candy Elysia was about to put into her mouth and looked at her with a forced smile.

"Elysia, who do you think you are? Why should I listen to you?"

She turned her head to look at Phainon, and after a moment of thought, a wicked smile appeared on her face.

This made Phainon, who was being stared at, shiver. He always felt like he was being plotted against, but he had no proof. What should he do?

"You came to me just for this kid's identity? I bet this kid must have something extraordinary about him. It can't be that you're just too idle, doing good deeds?"

Mobius sized up the inexplicably nervous Phainon, and the smile on her lips made people shiver, feeling as if she would pull out a scalpel and stab him the next second.

Even at this point, Elysia showed no concern, leaning against the corner of the table, tilting her head, and looking at Mobius, the smile on her face never fading.

"Why is that impossible? Isn't the Elysia in your eyes pure, kind, and always ready to help others ♪"

Hearing this, Mobius neither denied nor affirmed, which was tantamount to tacit agreement. After all, in her opinion, Elysia was indeed capable of doing such things.

But there was another matter she wanted to confirm. After all, if he were just an ordinary person, there would be no need for her to forge an identity for him. Most people wouldn't need a fabricated identity, and it was clear that the person in front of her didn't fall into that category.

"Alright, I agree to help you, to fabricate an identity for that kid. But I have one condition: let this kid be my test subject, how about it?"

Mobius didn't directly ask Elysia but planned to keep Phainon with her. Even if he truly had nothing special about him, as Elysia claimed, she just happened to need a Little White Mouse.

But if she discovered something special, then Elysia shouldn't blame Mobius for doing anything out of line.

At one point, Phainon's eyes met Mobius's, and in that instant, he felt as if she was craving his body.

Not in the normal sense of craving a body, but in the literal sense of craving his body.

Phainon gave an awkward laugh but didn't speak. After all, he didn't know much about the situation yet, and speaking rashly might lead to saying the wrong thing.

It would be better for Elysia to handle this matter.

"That won't do. I still want him to be part of my team. If he runs to your place every day, then how will our team complete missions ♪"

Was Elysia afraid that Mobius would find out Phainon's identity? Actually, there was no need to be afraid, because if Mobius truly wanted to tie Phainon to an operating table for experiments, even Elysia wouldn't be able to stop her.

But that premise was if Mobius could actually tie Phainon to the operating table.

"Alright, I'll settle for less. Drawing a tube of this Little White Mouse's blood should be enough, right? If even that's not possible, then Elysia, you'll have to find someone else."

Elysia didn't make a decision rashly but cast an inquiring glance at Phainon.

However, Phainon absolutely could not agree to this. The blood of the Golden Descendants was also golden; ordinary people's blood wasn't golden. Moreover, some of his abilities were contained within his bloodline. If she tested it, wouldn't that expose him?

Elysia seemed to understand Phainon's predicament, but she truly could only seek Mobius's help. After some thought, she leaned slightly towards Mobius's ear, covering her mouth with one hand, clearly intending to speak of something secret.

"Mobius, I'll tell you a secret: I've actually been reborn. In the future, I saw that he could end the Honkai, which is why I need your help ♪"

But hearing this, Mobius looked as if she was seeing an idiot, her gaze seemed to say, 'Do I look like an idiot to you?'

Seeing Mobius's disbelieving gaze, Elysia felt a little hurt. She covered her small heart with both hands, showing a wronged expression.

"I told you such an important secret, yet all I got was suspicion. It's precisely because Mobius, you are my best friend that I told you this. Alas, it was all for naught ♪"

As she spoke, Elysia reached out to wipe away non-existent tears from her eyes, even feeling a sense of grievance for herself.

But Mobius didn't believe any of it. The more Elysia protected this person, the more interested she became in Phainon. She now wanted to see just how special he was, for Elysia to help him so diligently.

Elysia tried everything she could, but she couldn't get Mobius to budge; instead, it only made Mobius more interested in Phainon.

And she even proposed that Phainon come to her research institute as an assistant.

Phainon pondered for a long time by himself, then sighed softly and interrupted the two of them.

"I can let you draw my blood, but I hope you can keep it a secret."

The reason Phainon could do this was Elysia's trust in the person in front of them. He believed in Elysia's judgment of people.

At this point, Elysia let out an almost imperceptible sigh of relief. In fact, from the beginning, she never intended to hide Phainon's uniqueness from Mobius. Her elaborate efforts here were merely to pique Mobius's interest in Phainon. As long as Mobius was interested, she wouldn't harm Phainon for a while.

So, even now, Elysia remained in control of the situation.
