Shigeru and Takashi pushed open the massive doors to the main hall. The stench of blood and death choked the air, curling into their lungs like smoke from a funeral pyre. All around them lay the corpses of Lampmen, their lifeless eyes staring into nothingness, weapons clutched uselessly in stiff, cold hands. The remnants of a desperate fight painted the walls and floors crimson, a testament to Shiyoku's cruelty.
And in the middle of the carnage stood Shiyoku—the Sound Demon—his tall, shadowed silhouette framed by the eerie glow of his biwa. Each note he plucked vibrated in the air like a poisonous wind, distorting reality itself.
Shigeru's voice was steady, but his eyes burned with fury. "Shiyoku… your death song ends here."
Takashi stepped forward, umbrella in hand, its metal shifting smoothly into a gleaming blade. His armor snapped into place around him, radiating an aura of disciplined power, his every movement sharp and deliberate. "You won't escape us this time," he growled.
At once, Shigeru summoned his champions. Mother Dragon Ember unfolded massive wings of living flame, fire licking her scales hungrily. Guardian Angel Raphael spread his luminous wings wide, the air humming with holy energy. War Titan Goro planted his massive frame on the floor, muscles and stone-like armor gleaming in the dim light. And Serpent King Poison slithered forward, venom glinting on his scales, eyes cold and calculating.
Raphael knelt beside a dying Lampman, his healing light spilling out in gentle waves. "Rest now… your suffering ends," he whispered, his voice soft yet commanding. Ember roared, igniting the air as flames lashed outward, while Poison hissed and coiled. Takashi's blade gleamed as he charged at Shiyoku, sparks flying where soundwaves clashed against steel.
The Sound Demon plucked his biwa. A haunting melody rolled through the hall, twisting the air, bending light, and corrupting the corpses beneath him. The dead Lampmen rose again—not as they had been, but as grotesque winged demons, claws like jagged blades, teeth serrated and glinting with malice. They screamed in unison and charged.
Ember flared, burning dozens into ash in a single sweep. Takashi spun, slicing through another wave of the winged horrors with precise strikes. But Poison was caught, claws raked across scales and flesh alike. A scream echoed as he was torn apart, vanishing into the mass of demons.
"Poison!" Shigeru shouted, helpless, rage coiling tight around his chest.
The demons lunged toward Shigeru, but Goro planted himself like a living wall. "MASTER!" the titan bellowed, charging toward Shiyoku with unrelenting force.
Shiyoku's fingers danced along the biwa strings. A single strum—and Goro's neck was sliced through with a deafening snap. The titan's body collapsed, heavy as stone, a crumpled monument to Shiyoku's deadly precision.
Shigeru clenched his fists, grief cutting through him like a blade. He turned desperately to Raphael. "Tell me… can you purify them? Can you turn them back?"
Raphael's wings trembled as he knelt. "No… their souls are bound. Shiyoku cannot be killed, only sealed. But to lock him… it requires a soul sacrifice."
Shigeru's eyes hardened. Without a second's hesitation, he nodded. "Then take mine."
Raphael hesitated, his voice soft but urgent. "Shigeru… there may be another way—"
"I said TAKE IT! Before more lives are lost!" Shigeru roared, his aura flaring with a final, desperate will.
Raphael began the chant. Blinding white light erupted from his wings as the spell to bind Shiyoku formed in the air. He drew upon Shigeru's lifeforce, every word sapping his body of strength, pulling him toward the brink of death.
Shiyoku's music surged, furious, summoning more demonic Lampmen as he lunged forward. Takashi stepped in front, blade raised, and the air screamed with tension.
"You won't get past me!" Takashi barked, rushing forward as the demons swarmed. Each swing of his umbrella-blade cut a path through the twisted Lampmen, the clang of steel ringing against hollow bone and sinew.
Shiyoku strummed a chord. Waves of sound tore across the hall, distorting Takashi's movements. He spun, narrowly deflecting sharp echoes with his blade, sparks flying where sound met steel.
Takashi feinted left, slashing through a horde, then lunged straight at Shiyoku. The Sound Demon's hand shot out, plucking a note so sharp it became a blade of pure sonic energy, slicing Takashi across the shoulder. Pain seared through him, but he pressed on, blood streaking his armor.
"You think you can face me?" Shiyoku mocked. "Your steel is nothing against my symphony!"
Takashi's eyes narrowed. He swung the umbrella like a pendulum, deflecting the sonic blades, closing the distance. Sparks flew as sound met steel, each strike resonating through the hall like thunder. He leapt over a mass of reanimated Lampmen, spinning to deliver a strike directly at Shiyoku's chest.
The Sound Demon twisted, evading—but Takashi anticipated, spinning the umbrella and slamming it against Shiyoku's side with all his force. Pain flashed across Shiyoku's form, and for a brief moment, the music faltered.
"You…" Shiyoku growled, crimson eyes narrowing. He unleashed a barrage of distorted chords, every note slicing toward Takashi like lethal daggers. He ducked, rolled, countering with a spinning strike that shattered the sound waves midair.
The battle escalated—Takashi danced through the hall, striking, parrying, every movement precise. Shiyoku struck with rhythm and melody, creating walls of sonic shards, concussive waves, and ethereal chains. Each hit sent Takashi sliding across the floor, sparks and blood flying, yet he refused to falter.
Finally, with a yell, Takashi leapt high into the air, spinning his umbrella in a blur of metal. He struck the biwa directly, splintering the strings with a metallic shriek. Shiyoku staggered, his music cracking, and the chains of Raphael's spell coiled tighter around him.
With a final, desperate roar, Takashi drove his blade down, striking in unison with the sealing circle's power. Shiyoku screamed as his form was dragged into the chains, biwa shattering to dust. The Sound Demon's music dissolved into silence.
Shigeru collapsed, his body fading into pure light. Ember's flames flickered softly as she landed beside him, her fiery form dimming to embers.
"My son… is now with your son," she whispered, a faint smile crossing her face before she too vanished.
Raphael knelt, wings folding as his form dissolved into radiant energy. Shigeru grasped his hand weakly, eyes still focused on Takashi. "Takashi… he's your burden now. Lead him… like the son I can't raise." His body turned to light and vanished.
Takashi stood alone amid the ruin, blade trembling in his grip, the weight of countless deaths pressing down on him.
Moments later, Ryuu, Wataru, Hinata, and Akari arrived with their squads, rushing through the blood-stained halls. They found Takashi, Yuka, and Renji among the wreckage. Hinata flung herself into Renji's arms.
"Father… I thought I lost you."
Renji hugged her tightly, voice thick with relief. "I'm still here… thanks to all of you."
Outside, elders Souten and Dajiro confronted Takashi and Yuka. "What happened here?" Souten demanded.
Takashi lowered his head, voice heavy. "Shiyoku is sealed… but Shigeru, Nobuyuki, Hiroshi, Akio, Jin… they're gone."
Yuka added softly, tears in her eyes. "We did everything we could. The demons were endless."
Ryuu and Wataru swept the headquarters. No demons remained. Only corpses and silence.
In the locker room, Elder Tetsuo sifted through a shattered chest, his eyes widening in horror. "The key… is gone!" His shout echoed through the empty halls.
He turned to the surviving hunters, his face grave. "An emergency council will convene. New hunters must rise… or we will be swept away by what comes next."
The air trembled with the weight of that truth, heavy as the smoke that lingered over the ruins.
