Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: Aptitude Results

"It's only 7:40 a.m. I'll finish this early and head to the Pokémon Center."

After leaving the villa district, Icarus glanced at the electronic watch on his wrist. It was still early, so he decided to settle everything today.

"Let's go, Bellsprout. Our hard work these past few days is about to pay off."

"Spri!"

Bellsprout echoed confidently and followed beside him.

Soon, they arrived at the Pokémon Center.

Looking at the enormous building and the neatly dressed attendants inside, Icarus couldn't help but feel that the League truly was the largest Pokémon distributor.

Black markets and Pokémon hunter groups were insignificant in comparison.

After all, the Pokémon Center legally sold all kinds of Pokémon year-round. He had even heard that pure Dragon-type hatchlings had appeared at auctions in previous years.

"Welcome to the Pokémon Center!"

As soon as he entered, the greeters on both sides bowed politely.

"Mm."

Seeing the elegant staff and the magnificent exhibition hall on the first floor, Icarus felt slightly nervous.

In both his past and present lives, he had never stepped into such a high-end establishment. To avoid embarrassment, he simply nodded calmly.

"Hello, welcome back to the Pokémon Center. I'm your service assistant. How may I help you today?"

A young attendant with a gentle expression approached him.

The service quality alone made him internally compare it to the black market shops he had visited before. The difference was obvious.

"Hello. I'd like to sell some Flying-type Pokémon."

"Thank you for choosing the Pokémon Center. The appraisal department is on the second floor. Please follow me."

He followed her upstairs, passing rows of Pokémon Eggs and neatly categorized Pokémon displays.

"The total value of just this first floor alone could probably push someone all the way to Elite rank…"

He felt momentarily overwhelmed by the sheer wealth represented here.

On the second floor, she brought him to the appraisal waiting area.

"If you'd like to sell Pokémon, we'll first conduct an aptitude evaluation. Please have a seat. Would you like something to drink?"

"Any soft drink is fine."

She soon returned with a bottle of soda and handed him a number tag.

"You've been registered. When your number is called, please proceed to the designated window."

After thanking her, Icarus sat down.

"Spri spri."

Due to League regulations, Bellsprout had to remain inside its Poké Ball, which shook slightly in curiosity.

Soon, an announcement sounded.

"Number 26, please proceed to Appraisal Window 3."

"It's already 8:20… Business here really is booming."

He walked toward the window.

"Welcome. Please place the Pokémon you wish to sell on the tray."

The appraiser behind the glass handed him a tray.

"Alright."

From his backpack, Icarus took out four Poké Balls—two Zubat, one Spearow, and one Pidgey.

Yes, the Pidgey was the one he had chosen from Uncle Sam.

In the end, he had decided to gamble.

A medium-tier Pidgey was valued at 6,000 Pokédollars, while a medium-tier Spearow was worth 7,000. The Pokémon Center purchased at 80% of market price.

That meant roughly 4,800 versus 5,600 Pokédollars.

The difference wasn't significant enough to play it safe—so he chose to bet once.

"Thank you. The entire evaluation process will be visible to you."

The appraiser placed the four Poké Balls into the machine one by one.

Watching the process directly in front of him reassured Icarus.

On the black market, aptitude checks were often done out of sight—risky and untrustworthy.

The machine began operating.

On the display screen:

Testing in progress…

He clasped his hands slightly.

"At least give me high ordinary-tier…"

Soon, the machine beeped.

The results appeared.

---

① Name: Zubat

Type: Poison/Flying

Aptitude: Average

② Name: Zubat

Type: Poison/Flying

Aptitude: Low Ordinary

---

"As expected…"

He sighed softly. Zubat were extremely common in forest caves. Getting one average-tier already counted as decent luck.

Fortunately, selling the information earlier had been the correct choice.

He tapped to the next page.

---

③ Name: Spearow

Type: Normal/Flying

Aptitude: High Ordinary

④ Name: Pidgey

Type: Normal/Flying

Aptitude: High Ordinary

---

"This—!"

He froze for a second.

Then he couldn't stop himself from laughing.

"I hit the jackpot!"

Thankfully, each appraisal window was soundproof.

"Congratulations," the appraiser said calmly, returning the Poké Balls. "Would you like to proceed with selling them?"

As an evaluator, he was accustomed to such reactions. The machine determined aptitude—his job was simply to process the results.

Icarus held the Poké Balls tightly, excitement flashing in his eyes.

Their recent efforts had truly borne fruit.
