Chapter 64 - Chapter 64: The Great Harvest

Icarus and Bellsprout quickly cleaned up the battlefield, both looking anxiously in the direction where Pidgey had flown off.

To be honest, he regretted it a little now. In a moment of excitement, he had let Pidgey chase alone.

If those Rattata regrouped, Pidgey could end up at a disadvantage.

Restless, Icarus checked his watch every few minutes and scanned the surroundings nervously.

"Boom!"

At last, a familiar figure appeared in the distance.

"Bang!"

Pidgey dropped a Rattata from its claws onto the ground and lifted its head proudly.

"You're finally back! That's amazing, Pidgey! You tracked and hunted this Rattata all by yourself!"

Icarus smiled and praised it warmly.

"Pidgey~!"

Clearly pleased, Pidgey landed on his shoulder and rubbed against his face.

"Alright, let's change locations and take a break for lunch."

Icarus quickly processed the Rattata, then brought the two Pokémon to an open clearing outside.

Under a large tree, the three of them began eating.

"This one's yours, Bellsprout. And this is yours, Pidgey."

"The one with meat really tastes better."

Now that he had started earning money and building savings, Icarus had upgraded his meals. He had switched from multigrain cakes to minced meat patties and ate with satisfaction.

After forming a bond with Pidgey, he noticed his physical fitness had improved slightly. He felt lighter and more agile.

Of course, his appetite had increased too. He needed more nutrients, so the multigrain cakes were no longer enough. Meat patties were a better choice.

"With Pidgey, hunting outside is much more convenient. We can earn more."

Watching Pidgey eat while staying alert and guarding the surroundings, Icarus felt extremely satisfied.

This morning alone, they had hunted:

19 Caterpie

6 Weedle

12 Rattata

Although part of the harvest came from taking advantage of group conflicts and picking off the injured, they still had to fight hard to secure it.

For example, those six injured Rattata — if he had only Bellsprout, Icarus would have avoided them even if he discovered them.

"Now we have 25 thread sacs, about 100 kilograms of Caterpie meat, 6 sharp horns, about 65 kilograms of Rattata meat, 11 front teeth, and one Rattata leader…"

"Total profit. Absolute profit."

After lunch, he counted the morning's harvest, his eyes practically shining.

After a rough estimate, the income had already exceeded 4,000 PokéDollars.

The Weedle meat and six poison sacs weren't even included in that total. The 30 kilograms of insect meat would be food for Pidgey and Bellsprout for the next two or three days.

"Still… Pidgey and Bellsprout consume a lot. I have to buy energy crystals."

Looking at Bellsprout rooted in place to rest and Pidgey perched on a branch, Icarus sighed.

As far as he knew, both Pidgey and Bellsprout typically evolved after reaching low-tier ordinary-level strength.

If he wanted to improve their aptitude, investing a large amount of energy during evolution was the best opportunity.

Energy crystals were essential.

"Alright, Pidgey! Bellsprout! Let's keep working this afternoon!"

A determined look flashed across his face as he called out to them.

"Spri spri!"

"Pidgey!"

The three-member team resumed their hunt.

---

Perhaps they had used up their luck in the morning.

In the afternoon, they only encountered two groups.

The first group consisted of six Weedle and four Caterpie. They were quickly defeated using the usual powder tactics.

Pidgey's Flying-type energy dealt heavy damage to them.

The second group had five Rattata.

This time, the Rattata reacted intelligently. Once they realized they had been poisoned, they scattered and fled.

Fortunately, under the combined effects of Sleep Powder and Poison Powder, Pidgey managed to catch two of them. Bellsprout and Icarus worked together to catch two more.

During the separate pursuit, Icarus' new throwing knife finally proved useful. One clean throw pierced straight through a fleeing Rattata.

He gradually realized how large the gap was between ordinary humans and naturally powerful Pokémon.

Today's hunts had relied almost entirely on powder tactics and Pidgey's aerial advantage. His proud throwing knife technique felt insignificant by comparison.

"Sigh… I'm barely even support now. Just a handyman."

He chuckled bitterly while processing the four Rattata corpses.

"But once the wild Pokémon stop grouping together, I'll still have my use, right?

After all, there are so many Pokémon now. My throwing knives can only interfere with two or three at most.

And once I reach elite level, I'll become real combat power too."

On the way back, looking at the calluses on his hands and the throwing knife at his waist, Icarus clenched his fists.

He had always been confident in his own strength.

---

Before 4 p.m., Icarus returned to Greenveil Town and began selling the day's materials.

After quickly visiting the grocery store and butcher shop, he ended up with more than 4,000 PokéDollars in cash.

Combined with previous subsidies and over 4,000 PokéDollars in savings, his total assets exceeded 6,000 PokéDollars for the first time.

"We're rich! We're rich! We're rich, Bellsprout! We're rich, Pidgey!"

After depositing the money onto his card, Icarus waved it excitedly in front of them.

"Pidgey~!"

Pidgey had no real concept of human currency. It was simply happy because its trainer was happy.

"Spri spri! Sprout?"

Bellsprout, however, looked confused. Where was the pile of money? Why was there only a small card?

"Hahaha, Bellsprout, this is called a bank card. Our money is stored inside it. When we buy expensive things, we just use this card."

Icarus laughed and handed the card over for inspection.

He had wanted to open an account before, but he never had enough savings. As soon as he earned money, he would spend it on supplies.

After selling everything this afternoon, the grocery store's Grandpa Arai had reminded him to finally get one.

"Spri~"

Bellsprout examined the card carefully, flipping it back and forth before returning it, still slightly puzzled.

"Alright, let's eat first. We'll head out again at six in the evening. Pidgey, I'll rely on you tonight, so rest well."

"Pidgey!"

Pidgey responded confidently.

"Spri spri! Sprout!"

Bellsprout immediately protested that it could help too.

"Hahaha, yes, yes, you too, Bellsprout. Work hard tonight."

Icarus patted Bellsprout gently on the head.

After dinner, the three of them closed their eyes and began to rest.

Sleeping in the wild required someone to stay on guard. Since both Pidgey and Bellsprout would participate in the night hunt, it was better to rest safely at home in Greenveil Town.

Besides, his small space backpack was already full.
