Chapter 37 - Chapter 37 — The Gluttonous Jahy

The police didn't issue a fine. They simply had Tanaka Masao settle Jahy's bill.

Jahy had only eaten a few simple street snacks—the total didn't even reach 1,000 yen (roughly around 50 RMB).

After giving Jahy a verbal warning, the officers left.

With the farce over, the onlookers gradually dispersed.

Finally released, Jahy rolled her shoulders, looking extremely displeased.

"Damn it! I just ate a little food, and they went and arrested me. Absolutely unforgivable."

Tanaka Masao put his wallet away and said,

"This isn't wherever you used to live. Here, you have to pay when you buy things.

The officer already warned you just now. If you don't pay next time, you'll be taken to the police station and locked up for a few days."

Although Jahy didn't know what a "police station" was, if it involved being locked up, it was obviously something like a prison.

She was the great Jahy-sama—there was no way she would allow herself to be thrown into a prison.

Jahy's gaze shifted to the pocket where Tanaka Masao kept his money.

[Inside that pocket are pieces of paper printed with various patterns—that's money.

As long as you have that, you can eat whatever you want without being disturbed]

She reached out her hand demandingly.

"Tanaka, give me some money."

Tanaka Masao slapped her hand away.

"I just paid for you. You promised to grant me one request, and before you've even done that, you're already asking me for money again?"

Jahy showed not the slightest hint of embarrassment and immediately started acting shameless.

"I did say I'd grant you any one request, but I'm not full yet. At the very least, you have to let me eat until I'm full, right?"

Whether Jahy would actually honor her promise was another matter entirely.

Even if she did, it made sense to squeeze as much benefit out of the situation as possible.

Tanaka Masao let out a helpless sigh.

"Fine. I'll treat you to a meal."

He made it clear to himself that he was definitely not treating her because of that vague, unreliable promise.

It was purely because he felt sorry seeing her hungry.

Of course, if Jahy really did feel like granting his request, he wouldn't exactly refuse.

Demons and all—by common sense, they were probably pretty open-minded.

"That's great!"

Hearing Tanaka Masao agree, Jahy cheered excitedly, grabbing him and pulling him forward.

"Hurry, hurry! I saw several things just now that I didn't get the chance to eat!"

·····

Before long, Jahy's hands were full of food.

She took a bite of this, then a bite of that, her face filled with bliss.

Tanaka Masao even held a drink for her. Every couple of bites, she would lean her head over and take a sip of the sweet beverage.

"Ahh~ this is the kind of life I, the great Jahy-sama, am meant to live."

After a brief period of hardship, Jahy had reclaimed her former happy life.

"And who knew human-world food could be this delicious? I had no idea before."

Back in the Demon Realm, food preparation was extremely simple, with very few seasonings. Naturally, it couldn't compare to human cuisine.

She looked at Tanaka Masao beside her and asked curiously,

"Tanaka, why aren't you eating anything?"

She could see him constantly swallowing, his eyes full of longing as he stared at the food.

Yet for some reason, he stubbornly didn't take a single bite.

Tanaka Masao swallowed again, regretting his decision to buy food for Jahy.

For him, this was pure torture.

"I'm on a diet lately. I need to control what I eat, so I can't have these high-calorie foods."

"A diet?"

Jahy didn't really understand, but knowing that he couldn't eat delicious food made her feel a bit sympathetic.

"So many tasty things, and you can't eat them. That's just too sad."

"Leave it to the great Jahy-sama to take care of them for you."

Watching Jahy eat with such pure happiness on her face, Tanaka Masao didn't feel annoyed at all.

Instead, he felt an inexplicable sense of satisfaction—almost healing.

As if he were the one eating.

Suddenly, Tanaka Masao had the urge to feed her.

"Here, Jahy. Try this."

"Hmm? What's this?"

Jahy looked at the golden-colored item he handed her, covered in various toppings.

It looked delicious.

Without hesitation, she took a bite. Crispy texture, rich aroma, and a slightly sweet-and-sour taste that made it impossible to stop.

"So good."

"It's meat. Really fragrant."

Seeing Jahy's satisfied expression, Tanaka Masao explained,

"This is called a chicken stick. It's made by frying chicken with various ingredients. The stuff on top is cheese."

Jahy kept chewing, her mouth filled with the scent of fried chicken.

She nodded and said somewhat indistinctly,

"Oh, so this is a chicken stick. I like it a lot—and that cheese is really good too."

For some reason, Tanaka Masao felt like Jahy was missing a very important word when she spoke.

But whatever—feeding her came first.

"Here. Cream puff."

"Sandwich cookies."

"Double-layer milk pudding."

As Tanaka Masao continued feeding her nonstop, Jahy's stomach visibly began to swell.

"Ugh~"

Jahy covered her mouth and waved her hand in refusal.

"N-no… I can't anymore. Stop."

She hadn't controlled herself earlier, accepting everything Tanaka Masao offered without restraint.

Only now did she realize she had reached her limit—she was practically about to roll her eyes back.

Well. Roll her eyes back from being too full.

Looking at Jahy at her absolute limit, Tanaka Masao asked,

"So, you're full now, right?"

"Full."

Jahy nodded, letting out a satisfied burp for good measure.

"In that case, I'm heading home."

Seeing Tanaka Masao about to leave, Jahy hurriedly stepped forward.

"Where are you going?"

"Home, obviously."

"I'm coming with you."

Seeing Jahy trying to follow him home, Tanaka Masao refused.

"No."

If he lived alone, he might have let her come with him.

But he was currently living with his parents. Bringing an unidentified girl home to stay was absolutely out of the question.

"Why not?"

Faced with Jahy's confusion, Tanaka Masao explained the situation.

After hearing it, Jahy didn't care at all.

"Oh, I thought it was something serious. That's easy—I'll just hypnotize them."

"Hey, hey! What do you think you're doing to my parents?!"

Even though he had transmigrated here, the parents of this world treated him well. There was no way he'd let Jahy do anything to them.

"Using magic on my family is forbidden!"

"I don't care. Either way, I'm going to your house. That place is already reserved as my new base."
