Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Every Transmigrator Knows the Drill

"A Player? What does that mean? Is this my 'Golden Finger'?" Subaru froze for a moment before his eyes widened. Anyone who read web novels knew that receiving a system cheat was practically a standard rite of passage.

So, having an leveling system is actually perfectly reasonable, he thought.

A system interface that only he could see materialized before his eyes.

"Mmm... It really is a system. A clear attribute panel plus two passive skills? I've hit the jackpot." Subaru clenched his fist, excitement written all over his face. "I didn't expect my Intelligence stat to be so high—18 points. Is it because I'm a transmigrator?"

"But I'm still a Level 1 newbie. How do I level up? Do I have to grind monsters?"

As the thought crossed his mind, the system voice chimed again, and a new window popped up.

[Daily Quest: Aiming for the Strongest][The System will assist the Player's growth. Failure to follow System instructions may result in a penalty.]

[Daily Quest: Aiming for the Strongest] * Push-ups: 0/100

Sit-ups: 0/100

"Push-ups, sit-ups, squats, running..." Subaru rested his chin on his hand. "These look like basic physical training. Is the system trying to make me stronger through exercise?"

Suddenly, a familiar voice, as clear and melodic as a silver bell, interrupted his train of thought.

"Subaru, good morning."

A silver-haired beauty stepped through the door. It was Emilia. Her waist-length silver hair was partially braided, framing her intelligent violet-blue eyes. Her gentle features combined elegance with a touch of innocence, giving her an angelic charm.

Even though I'm devoted to Rem, I'm equally committed to Emilia, Subaru thought. If I really had to choose between the two... well, only children make choices. Adults take both!

With that thought, Subaru waved enthusiastically. "Morning, Emilia!"

"How are you feeling, Subaru?" Emilia walked over with light steps, leaning in slightly with a look of concern. "Are you adjusting well to staying here?"

"I'm beyond grateful." As Emilia approached, Subaru caught a faint, delicate fragrance—like morning dew mixed with sunlight. It left him momentarily dazed. He put on an exaggerated expression and said, "If you hadn't taken me in, I'd probably be lying in some alley right now, fighting a stray cat for territory."

After all, he and Emilia's group had driven off the Bowel Hunter, Elsa, and reclaimed the insignia yesterday evening. Since he hadn't been injured like his counterpart in the original story, he didn't need medical treatment. Penniless and with nowhere to go, he had no choice but to ask Emilia for help.

The kind-hearted Emilia hadn't hesitated to bring him back to the Roswaal Mansion and arrange a guest room for the night.

"It's not that dramatic," Emilia giggled, covering her mouth as her silver hair swayed. She looked at him with gentle eyes. "It was Subaru who worked so hard to help me find my insignia. The one who truly needs to give thanks is me."

"It was nothing. Anyone would have lent a hand in that situation," Subaru said with a modest wave.

In truth, he had simply used his foreknowledge to recruit the "Son of the World," the Sword Saint Reinhard, to beat back Elsa. Otherwise, he and Emilia would have been in real trouble.

"Subaru." Emilia blinked her violet eyes, looking at him with undisguised admiration. "If you hadn't found Felt so quickly, the insignia might have been lost forever. And you faced Elsa despite the danger... You are truly brave."

"Ah—" Flustered by the sudden praise, Subaru scratched the back of his head and laughed awkwardly. "I just did what I could. Besides, without Reinhard, I couldn't have handled someone of Elsa's caliber on my own."

"No, Subaru." Emilia shook her head, her expression serious. "Your help was vital. You recovered something very important to me. You really are amazing."

"Ugh... is that so..." Subaru felt his face heating up. He muttered to himself, Emilia is way too good at praising people... Hearing that from her is almost too much to handle.

Still, he couldn't help but feel a bit smug. Being praised by a girl as beautiful as Emilia would make anyone's day.

Emilia tilted her head slightly, her silver hair shimmering in the light. "So, Subaru, would you like to go for a walk?"

"A walk?" Subaru asked, curious.

"Yes. I'm heading to the gardens for my daily routine. Want to join me?"

"Daily routine... what does that involve?" Seeing her serious face, Subaru joked, "Watering the flowerbeds?"

"Not quite. It's talking to the spirits." Emilia paused, placing a finger on her pale cheek as she thought of how to explain. "Well, interacting with the children I've contracted with every morning is one of the conditions of our agreement."

It was a well-known fact that Emilia was a Spirit Arts User, contracted with the Great Spirit Puck and capable of communicating with lesser spirits through him.
