Chapter 83 - Chapter 80: New Spells

Furan returned home in the evening, immediately packed everything, and went to the basement.

The table she had originally used as a dissection table had already been thrown into the furnace and burned to ash, and the corpse had been packed into a body bag.

Now she couldn't help but marvel that a Formal Mage was indeed different; even after so many days, the corpse remained as it was with no signs of rot, only some areas of the skin had dissolved.

Of course, she didn't come here today to deal with this corpse, but to practice Spells.

Except for the first day when she only made the Fireball Spell magic ring and didn't get any more Spells, people from various Schools came to her for rings over the remaining few days.

Although there were duplicate Spells among them, Furan still managed to obtain a large number of Spells through this.

She planned to practice these Spells to the entry level first, and then practice the useful ones to the mastery level.

This was her current skill panel.

[Skill: Fireball Spell (Entry) (Proficiency: 12/100): Can condense fire elements into a sphere and throw it forward; upon touching a target, the fire elements will explode to cause damage.

Earth Spike Technique (Entry) (Proficiency: 1/100): Condenses earth elements in the ground to form a spike to attack the target (Note: Requires earth elements to use.)

Life-Destroying Ray (Entry) (Proficiency: 3/100): Fires a ray; if it hits matter with vitality, it deals extra damage to that matter.

Cloud and Mist Spell (Entry) (Proficiency: 3/100): Creates a cloud of mist that obstructs vision, released with oneself as the center.

Brittle Armor Spell (Entry) (Proficiency: 10/100): Creates a ball of light; if the ball of light hits a hard object, the hardness of the object decreases.

Create Wraith (Uninitiated) (Proficiency: 3/100): Used on a dead corpse, there is a probability of causing the corpse to produce a spiritual body; the success probability depends on the time since the corpse died—the shorter the time, the higher the success probability, and its spiritual body will carry part of the corpse's memories from life... (omitted)]

This was Furan's harvest over these few days; not only did she earn a large amount of gold coins, but she also learned the Spells from those Schools she had dreamed of.

It was just that the casting of some Spells was rather frightening. Furan still remembered that someone from the Necromancy School brought a corpse directly in and cast Create Wraith on it.

Those three points of proficiency were only obtained because Furan secretly used a hidden ring to cast it once on the corpse; she didn't know how to practice this Spell next, as she couldn't find any other corpses.

As for Beloli's corpse, forget it; creating a revenant for an enemy would purely be asking for trouble.

Then she took out two rings from her pocket. There were only two new Spells today, but she liked both of them very much.

One was the Sword Dance magic ring she had specifically pestered Bella to make, a basic skill of the Sword Chant School and also its signature skill, which both apprentices and Formal Mages loved to use.

However, it seemed her efforts were in vain, as later today someone else from the Sword Chant School also came to her to make a Sword Dance ring.

The other was the Poison Mist Spell from the Nature School. This Spell was extremely sinister; as the name suggested, it sprayed a cloud of poison mist—yes, sprayed directly into someone's face.

It had a large range, and using it at the start of a fight would disgust the opponent to death. At the apprentice rank, there were no good ways to defend against it; if one couldn't defeat the opponent shortly after inhaling the poison mist, they were basically not far from death.

As the brilliance of the Spells gathered and then dissipated, the light on the two rings dimmed accordingly.

[Sword Dance (Uninitiated) (Proficiency: 3/10): Infuses Spiritual Power throughout your body, making the sword held in your hand an extension of your Spiritual Power, increasing the degree of swordsmanship mastery.]

[Poison Mist Spell (Uninitiated) (Proficiency: 3/10): Sprays a cloud of poison mist forward; after the target inhales it, they will gradually take damage. Using an antidote can negate the effects of the poison mist.]

She had applied cooldown reduction runes to both rings; now these two rings could be used again in just about an hour.

As for the waiting time, she was just a small part away from finishing the writing of her book; she would do that now.

After a period of time, when she wrote the last symbol, nothing happened. She frowned strangely and could only start packing up the manuscript.

After stacking the manuscripts in order, she suddenly had a moment of realization.

She felt as if she were climbing a three-step staircase, and she had now climbed onto the first step.

"Is this what the mentor meant by 'you'll naturally know once you've achieved it'?"

She knew that feeling now, and she felt that she was actually very close to the second step.

[Attributes: Constitution: 3.0, Spirit: 3.3]

These were her current attributes. The Constitution was because Elven Swordsmanship had finally reached the Proficient level under her hard work, adding 0.2 to her Constitution.

And as for why her Spiritual Power had increased, she felt it was because she had been studying and mastering Spells recently.

A normal person at the apprentice stage would learn at most five Spells or so; any more would be meaningless.

But she relied on the panel, plus the large number of Spells she obtained through magic rings, allowing her to increase her Spiritual Power while mastering each Spell.

She felt that if she practiced three Spells to the mastery level, her Spiritual Power could reach 3.5.

According to her current feeling, 3.5 was the Spiritual Power requirement needed to promote to a Formal Mage.

Once she crossed that, it would count as reaching the second step.

And if this task was also completed, she wouldn't need to participate in the assessment to get a ranking to complete the final test; she could promote to a Formal Mage much earlier.

As for the Spell to be created, she already had a clue and would be able to use it soon.

What she needed to consider now was whether to promote directly to a Formal Mage after creating one Spell.

Or to create one or two more Spells to form a system, which could allow her to obtain a Specialty after promoting to a Formal Mage.

And this Specialty would likely be a special machine-type Specialty, which didn't exist in previous Formal Mage promotions.

Furan was still inclined toward establishing a system before promoting to a Formal Mage.

First, she already had a concept and inspiration for two Spells, and she believed these two Spells could definitely construct a complete system, allowing her to get a Specialty when she promoted.

Second, she had heard that in higher-rank mage promotions, having the talent to create new Spells could save a great deal of effort.

And she had already experimented; she could use the Star Gazing Technique to manifest books she had seen in her previous life—even if she had only seen the cover, she could manifest all the content inside.

And if she continued to delve into machine-type Spells on the basis of obtaining a Specialty, then Earth's knowledge could provide her with infinite 'inspiration'.

This would ensure she never had to worry about creating Spells in the future, allowing her to move faster in subsequent higher-rank promotions.
