Chapter 143 - Chapter 138: The Invitation

Furan immediately returned to the temporary residence established by the Alliance specifically for mages and pushed open the door to her room.

She went to a table and placed a longsword she had just bought from a weapon shop on the way.

Following the content of the book, she immediately replicated the runes on it one-to-one onto this longsword.

Taking a deep breath, she used a specially made pen to draw the patterns stroke by stroke using her Spiritual Power.

Initially, the drawing process went very smoothly; she felt almost no resistance.

But after drawing half of the rune, she suddenly felt a small portion of her Spiritual Power being consumed.

She didn't pay much attention to this feeling and continued focusing on drawing the rune.

Now, she felt every stroke was difficult to perform. Not only did every stroke consume a portion of Spiritual Power, but her attention was also constantly wavering, making her Spiritual Power no longer stay focused on it.

If it were an experienced rune maker, they might have failed by now, as they had likely never faced such immense pressure during the process.

But Furan was different; her Spiritual Power already far exceeded that of a First-Order Mage, not to mention her attainments in Rune Craft were beyond what ordinary people could reach.

So she held firm against the pressure, allowing the rune to take shape in one go.

After finishing, Furan let out a long sigh and slumped into her chair, her eyes looking a bit weary.

"It directly consumed a quarter of my Spiritual Power..." Furan carefully sensed her current Spiritual Power and couldn't help but click her tongue.

Drawing this rune was truly difficult; she felt that if Raymond could draw even half of it, he would be considered very talented in Rune Craft.

She turned the longsword over and saw the red-glowing rune on it.

It was a bird flying in the sky with extremely wide wings, surrounded by blazing flames in the background.

Furan directly injected her Spiritual Power into it and felt a progress bar similar to the short sword she had collected from that Mercenary.

Her vast Spiritual Power quickly filled it, causing the rune to emit a dazzling red light that spread across the entire longsword.

The air in the room suddenly heated up. Furan's hand holding the hilt felt a scorching heat, and flames suddenly appeared at the tip of the longsword, spreading downwards.

The entire blade was enveloped in yellow flames, radiating terrifying heat. Furan didn't bring the sword too close to the wooden table, yet she could see small flames starting to ignite on it.

This made Furan quickly cancel the injection of Spiritual Power, letting the rune on the longsword gradually dim, which caused the intense heat in the room to vanish.

She quickly extinguished the small flames in the room to avoid a fire.

After confirming there was no risk of fire in the room, Furan lay back in her chair and began to think about this longsword engraved with an 'Ancient Rune'.

Although the effects of these runes were much more powerful than the ones Furan had learned before, she was still not quite satisfied.

"This effect is a bit weak."

She had just felt the maximum power that the rune could release; it was much stronger than her proficient-level Fireball Spell without any bonuses, but that was about it.

Not to mention that just engraving this rune had cost her a quarter of her Spiritual Power, which was enough for her to cast four First-Tier Spells, yet it only had this kind of effect.

Furthermore, her Fireball Spell now had the bonus of Dragon Flame, so the fireball she released would definitely be stronger than using the rune on this longsword.

Moreover, she silently checked the Panel. There were no changes, and the prompt for the Ancient Rune Warrior was still hanging there.

[You have crafted a powerful rune; Rune Craft proficiency +100]

"This isn't an 'Ancient Rune'..." Furan murmured to herself.

This was definitely not an Ancient Rune recognized by the Panel. Although the effect was indeed much stronger than contemporary runes, it still wasn't that much stronger.

Furan rubbed the corners of her eyes, falling into doubt. Since this wasn't an Ancient Rune, then what should a real one be?

"Although these aren't it, but..." She felt that these runes were not far from real Ancient Runes.

She suddenly thought of the description for the Ancient Rune Warrior: 'no key information has been erased'... "Key information, what is that?"

She felt she was very close to the truth. These runes must have had their true key information erased, leading to this result.

"But what is the key information?"

Thinking of this gave her a bit of a headache. The entire book had no other content. Although she knew some key information might have been erased, she didn't know what it actually was.

After thinking it over, Furan intended to start with the rune that suspectedly represented the image of the mountains.

Needless to say, if this book were seen by the believers of the image of the mountains, they might rush over and burn it on the spot.

This was truly too transgressive—engraving someone else's god onto a rune, and it might even be effective.

Regardless, Furan didn't dare to engrave this rune on a weapon. If those believers saw it, it would be a life-threatening matter.

As for the patterns on the other six runes, Furan guessed they were also probably gods. She remembered that the book introducing gods stated it clearly.

[The gods we can see in the Material Realm and the Spirit Realm are only a small part of the Astral Realm; even more gods are hidden among the stars.]

She believed these six were gods who had never come to the Material Realm. As for whether they existed in the Spirit Realm, she didn't know, as she had never seen them.

"These runes all have the prominent features of these gods..." She began to think about the common characteristics of these runes.

Actually, normally, runes are far from reaching the power of Spells. If they really could, why would she even practice Spells? She would just practice runes instead.

But these runes engraved with divine symbols did indeed possess unimaginable power. It could be said that as long as one could drive the rune on the sword in Furan's hand, they could crush a mage who was about to advance.

This led Furan to suspect whether those divine symbols provided the power... A clever idea suddenly popped into her head: Haven't I seen one of those gods?

She still remembered what the Lord of Radiance looked like when giving her the Radiant Priest class—that pure white figure... What would happen if I drew a rune modeled after that figure?

The more Furan thought about it, the more she felt this plan had potential. She rubbed her hands together, ready to begin.

But she didn't have a medium for drawing runes right now. She had only bought one longsword to try it out first.

"I'll go out and buy another one later." She looked at the sky; the sun was already touching the distant mountains. It was time for her to go eat. After eating, she would... Just then, a knock suddenly came from her door. Opening it, she saw a waiter.

"Your Excellency the Mage, the Administrator of Gede Town invites the mages staying here to have dinner together. Are you free?"
