"Well," Ambrose didn't know how to answer that question but still felt the need to take control. Fast. "Orion—"
"He's been homeschooled before now." Devon subconsciously brushed his boot against the Guide's. That grounded Ambrose enough to let him continue. "Also, looking into his records? Why? Is there something wrong?"
The principal's eyes widened. "What? No, of course not, Mr Ferguson." She shook her head vehemently. "It's merely protocol. Records like that help us know his current academic capabilities and if he'll need extra attention."
Ambrose gave the woman a long look.
His senses were heightened enough to pick up her heartbeat. Gaze sharp enough to notice the calm despite how quickly she tried clearing the air.
