Chapter 59 - Defying the Laws

Zekai sighed softly.

"One year of my life."

If he failed this Reality Fracture...

One entire year of his life would disappear.

"...I don't have time for this."

He stepped toward the staircase.

A transparent barrier instantly appeared before him.

Thunk.

His forehead lightly bumped against it.

"...Seriously?"

He pressed his palm against the invisible wall. It didn't move.

"You're making this way harder than it needs to be."

The guardian spoke quietly.

"You misunderstand. This place is not another dimension."

His eyes met Zekai's.

"It exists beyond the worlds known to you.

"The countless realms you can call reality..."

"Cannot reach here."

Zekai frowned.

"...Right."

"I'm sure that's important."

"But I really don't have time for philosophy."

Null Drakular appeared in his hand.

"There's literally a countdown on my life."

The guardian remained perfectly still.

He neither prepared to fight... nor attempted to stop him.

Zekai stepped forward. Then swung.

CLANG!

The sword struck empty air.

A metallic shockwave exploded across the valley.

Invisible ripples spread outward.

Yet...

Nothing happened.

Zekai stared ahead.

"...Figured."

He slowly tightened his grip.

The crimson vein running through Null Drakular began glowing.

A deep metallic hum echoed from the blade.

"Haaa..."

One step. One breath. One swing.

SLASH!!

The valley shook. This time... something changed.

Thin fractures suddenly spread across the empty air before him.

The guardian's expression changed for the very first time.

His calm eyes narrowed slightly.

"...Impossible."

Another crack appeared.

Then another.

Like glass.

CRASH!!

The invisible barrier shattered into countless fragments of radiant light before dissolving into the wind. Silence returned.

The guardian quietly stared at the empty space where the barrier had once stood.

"...You destroyed..." He paused.

"...Synthesis." His voice carried genuine surprise.

Zekai rested Null Drakular across his shoulder.

"I don't know what Synthesis is."

A faint grin crossed his face.

"But..."

"...it's broken now."

The guardian's voice became noticeably colder.

"But it changes nothing."

He looked toward the staircase.

"A human... cannot climb those steps."

Zekai smiled.

"Maybe. But I already broke one rule."

Without hesitation—he lifted one foot and stepped onto the first stair.

"...See? No more rules."

The instant his boot touched the first of the Ascension Steps—his entire body froze.

"...!"

An overwhelming pressure descended upon him.

Not from above.

Not from below.

From everywhere.

Wrong.

Wrong.

WRONG.

It wasn't crushing his body.

It was crushing... his very existence. His heartbeat became painfully heavy.

"...Gh..."

Every breath felt like dragging air through solid stone. His knees trembled violently.

He tried lifting his other foot.

It refused to move.

Not because he lacked strength.

Something beyond physical law simply rejected him.

His vision blurred.

For a brief instant...

He felt countless unseen eyes opening throughout the sanctuary.

Watching.

Judging.

Rejecting.

His grip tightened around Null Drakular.

"...What... the hell..."

Cold sweat rolled down his forehead.

Frost Heal remained completely useless.

This wasn't an injury.

It was a law.

The staircase itself... refused to acknowledge his existence.

Behind him... the guardian remained silent.

He neither warned him... nor helped him.

He simply watched.

Then—

Null Drakular suddenly trembled.

A deep metallic resonance echoed across the valley.

"Hm...?" Zekai looked down.

The crimson vein running through the blade pulsed.

Once.

Twice.

Again.

Almost...

as though the sword itself had become irritated.

A faint smile slowly appeared. "...You're reacting?"

The humming intensified.

"...So... you don't like being told 'no' either."

He slowly raised the sword. "Haaa..."

With one decisive strike—

CLANG!!

Null Drakular slammed against the ancient staircase.

A deafening resonance spread throughout the sanctuary.

The entire valley fell silent.

The overwhelming pressure didn't break.

It hesitated.

For the briefest instant... the ancient law governing the staircase seemed to pause, as though something older than itself had answered Null Drakular's call.

The invisible weight surrounding Zekai rippled once.

Then—it slowly receded.

Not because the Sanctuary had been overpowered... but because it had acknowledged another Authority.

Air rushed back into his lungs.

"...Hah..." He let out a long breath.

A genuine smile slowly spread across his face.

It wasn't forced.

It wasn't the bitter smile he had worn after surviving another impossible battle.

It was relief.

For the first time since receiving the Fool's Authority... the world had stepped aside instead of forcing him to kneel.

He looked down at Null Drakular.

"...Looks like... there really are things only we can do."

The sword hummed quietly in response.

Zekai chuckled softly.

"...Guess we're stronger than we thought."

Zzzzsup!

The crimson interface suddenly appeared before Zekai.

But this time...

It didn't stabilize.

Zekai stared at the words.

"...Foreign Authority?"

The screen flickered once.

Then immediately disappeared.

"...You really love giving me half an answer."

Slowly... he lifted his second foot and climbed onto the next step.

For the briefest instant...

Zekai's shadow disappeared.

He didn't notice.

But the guardian did.

His eyes lowered toward the white stone beneath Zekai's feet.

The shadow returned.

As though nothing had happened.

The guardian's expression remained unchanged.

"...Interesting."

The moment Zekai takes the second step, every ancient statue in the valley silently opens its eyes and turns to face him.

Behind him—the guardian smiled. Not warmly. Not cruelly.

Patiently.

Like someone watching a prophecy unfold exactly as it had always been destined to.

"...Interesting. The Sanctuary... recognized your Authority."

A brief silence followed.

"...So. You truly crossed the threshold."

His gaze slowly lifted toward the sanctuary above.

"...Then let us see... whether you are worthy... of what waits beyond."

The breeze stopped.

The birds disappeared.

Even the sunlight felt strangely cold.

And for the first time since entering the Reality Fracture...

Zekai looked toward the sanctuary waiting beyond the endless staircase.

A quiet confidence settled deep within his chest.

The frozen forest.

The Alpha Pack.

The Sanctuary's barrier.

One after another...

He had crossed every obstacle that stood before him.

But somehow...

He felt that the true test had only just begun.

His fingers tightened around Null Drakular.

"...I'm finally strong enough." A faint smile appeared.

"...No matter what waits beyond... I'll cut through it."

Without another word... he continued climbing.

Far above... the Sanctuary remained silent.

As though patiently waiting... for that confidence to be tested.
