Chapter 1 - MY TEENAGE MISTAKES

If I could go back in time, I wouldn't change everything.

Some mistakes shaped me.

Some broke me.

And some… still follow me like a shadow.

Teenage years are strange. You think you know everything, yet you understand nothing. You want freedom but don't know responsibility. You want attention but don't understand consequences.

And I was no different.

1. The "I Know Everything" Phase

At fifteen, I believed I was smarter than my parents.

Their advice felt like control.

Their concern felt like interference.

Their rules felt like punishment.

I stopped sharing things with them. I lied about small stuff at first — extra classes, group studies, where I was going. It felt harmless.

"It's my life," I used to say.

But I didn't realize something simple:

Freedom without maturity is just slow self-destruction.

2. Choosing the Wrong Friends

Teenagers don't fear bad habits.

They fear being left out.

I laughed at jokes I didn't like.

I agreed with things I didn't believe in.

I followed people who weren't leading anywhere.

They called it "fun."

Late nights. Risky decisions. Ignoring studies. Ignoring family.

I called it "living my life."

But slowly, my grades dropped. My confidence dropped. And worst of all — my self-respect dropped.

The people I thought were my "forever friends" disappeared the moment things got difficult.

That was my first real lesson: Not everyone who stands beside you is standing for you.

3. The Comparison Trap

Social media became my silent enemy.

Everyone looked successful. Happy. Perfect.

I compared my face. My body. My marks. My life.

I smiled in photos but cried in private.

Teenage insecurity is dangerous. It whispers lies like: "You are not enough." "You are behind." "You are failing."

And when you hear it long enough, you start believing it.

4. Ignoring My Own Dreams

The biggest mistake?

I tried to become what others expected.

I chose subjects to impress people.

I hid interests that didn't seem "cool."

I acted confident while feeling completely lost.

Somewhere between trying to fit in and trying to win approval, I forgot to ask myself one simple question:

What do I actually want?

5. The Moment Everything Changed

There was one night.

One decision.

One mistake.

I still remember the silence after it happened.

My phone screen lighting up.

My heart beating louder than my thoughts.

The realization hitting slowly…

"This cannot be undone."

That night changed how people saw me.

But more importantly — it changed how I saw myself.

I won't describe what happened.

Not yet.

Because some mistakes don't just teach you lessons…

They rewrite your entire story.

What I Learned

Teenage mistakes aren't just about rebellion.

They're about confusion.

About wanting love.

About wanting identity.

If I could tell my younger self something, it would be this:

• Not everyone deserves access to you.

• Popularity fades. Character stays.

• Parents are strict because they're scared for you.

• One careless decision can echo for years.

And most importantly:

You don't have to lose yourself to find yourself.

But here's the truth I haven't told anyone…

That "one mistake" I mentioned?

It didn't end that night.

It followed me.

Into adulthood.

Into relationships.

Into opportunities I never got.

And last week…

After all these years…

It came back.

If you think teenage mistakes stay in teenage years —

you're wrong.

Some stories don't end.

They wait.

And mine?

It's just beginning again.
