Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Resurrection

After Acnologia's explanation, the members of the Fairy Tail Guild finally had a general understanding.

Of course, this was just a reason Acnologia had made up on the spot.

Something about being fallen nobility, the couple being buried in debt, and so as not to involve Little Erza, they could only send her to the Fairy Tail Guild because they heard the people here were talented and spoke kindly, while they traveled across the ocean to earn money and pay off their debts.

Only now, having paid off their debts, did they finally dare to come and see their daughter.

Acnologia had a face full of sorrow and gravity, while Irene lay on his shoulder, sobbing; if she hadn't turned the corners of her mouth up so high, it would have been perfect.

"Waaa... Erza's family is so pitiful!"

"I used to call her a violent woman, sob... I'm really a piece of trash!"

"Having a home they can't return to, being unable to see their loved ones, I'm crying my eyes out!"

The members of Fairy Tail were already moved to tears, looking more distressed than if they had lost their own parents.

Acnologia watched as everyone wept uncontrollably and felt a bit speechless; had he overdone it? He saw that little old man Makarov was about to cry himself into a fit.

Of course, it could also be that his performance was too sincere, and the people of Fairy Tail were just too kind-hearted, getting moved to tears over such a small thing.

They might even be thinking: if you don't cry after hearing such a tragic story, are you even human? You're too cold-blooded!

"Alright, it's all in the past now."

Acnologia took Irene's hand and bowed deeply to everyone: "Thank you for taking Erza in, and thank you for being with her as she grew up. Compared to you, we really are inadequate parents."

Makarov hurriedly waved his hands: "No need! No need! We have always treated Erza as family. That you could entrust her to us is also a fate destined by karma."

As expected of the Master, he certainly knows how to talk!

The others in the guild only knew how to cry helplessly, but the Master was different; he could handle any situation.

After another round of small talk, Acnologia learned the story of Erza growing up.

Just like in the original story, Erza liked to fight with Mirajane and developed very quickly; though only seven, she had the height of a fourteen or fifteen-year-old, and her magic power was also advancing by leaps and bounds.

Mirajane was also very puzzled; from a little redhead she could handle at will to someone who now fought her back and forth, she even suspected Erza was secretly taking hormones—how else could she develop so fast?

Finally, Acnologia asked: "Where is Erza? Why haven't I seen her yet?"

Makarov said: "Your daughter has very high magical talent. She became an S-Class Mage a while ago and then took on an s-class mission. She should have completed it by now."

Although Erza was only seven, her style of doing things was completely like a little adult; she could put anyone's mind at ease regardless of what mission she took.

More importantly, the troublemakers in the guild like Natsu and Gray were all kept strictly in line by her.

"That's good then."

Acnologia nodded slightly. In this era of the original anime, almost no one died, so he wasn't too worried about anything happening to Erza, one of the protagonists.

After Makarov arranged for people to bring the gifts in, Acnologia directly had them distributed as greeting gifts.

The guild members instantly turned into a chaotic mess, each one jumping for joy, eating and drinking to their heart's content, repeatedly saying they were good people.

Makarov asked: "I don't know your names yet?"

Acnologia said: "My name is Acnologia, and this is my wife, Irene Belserion."

The other guild members didn't know, but Makarov was shocked: "The world-ending dragon king and the scarlet despair?"

Acnologia hurriedly waved his hands: "Just a coincidence of names. Since our parents greatly admired those two seniors, they gave us these names, and the two of us also came together because of the fate of our names."

"I see..."

Makarov breathed a sigh of relief. Thinking about it, it made sense; the two in the legends were said to be fierce, cruel, and inhumane, while the two in front of him were polite, approachable, and even bought them gifts—how could they be the same people.

At this moment, Acnologia noticed Gray staring at him and asked in confusion: "What are you looking at?"

Gray frowned slightly: "Your eyes... I feel like I've seen them somewhere before?"

Hearing this, Acnologia suddenly remembered Ur, whom he had saved a few years ago; her soul was still residing in Irene's magic staff.

However, he couldn't say it directly and had to find an excuse.

He thought for a moment and said: "Right, is there anyone here who knows magic to create a body?"

Makarov shook his head slightly: "No, there isn't. That kind of magic probably involves Necromancy Magic; it's not something ordinary people have the chance to learn."

Acnologia said: "A long time ago, I saved a woman. To fight a demon, her whole body turned into ice. I happened to see her while passing by, so I used magic to temporarily collect her soul. Now I want to find a human body to help her resurrect."

"I think someone who can fight a demon should be a good person."

Gray, who was nearby, was startled as if he had thought of something. He grabbed Acnologia's shoulder and said urgently: "Where did you save that woman? What was her name?"

There was expectation and fear in his eyes; he was afraid it wasn't the person in his memory—the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.

Acnologia said: "I remember it was a village called Brago in the Isvan Region. As for the woman's name, I don't know, but she was a powerful Ice Mage."

He didn't hide anything; after all, he had saved Ur precisely to make up for Gray's regret.

However, he hadn't awakened when Gray's parents died. Of course, even if he had, he might not have been able to find Gray at that time, as it wasn't described in the original plot.

Gray was suddenly overjoyed: "It's Ur! Is the person you saved Ur?"

This matter had always been a pain in his heart. Could it be that Ur didn't die?

Acnologia said: "I don't know about that, but we can find a doll first and enchant her soul onto it."

"Wait for me!"

Makarov also knew that this matter couldn't be delayed. Ur was the pain of Gray's life; if the person Acnologia saved really was Ur, then for Gray, it would be no different from being reborn.

He didn't have a doll, but Mirajane did. Hearing Makarov's words, she didn't dare delay either and hurriedly ran upstairs, soon returning with a life-sized rabbit doll.

Seeing this, Irene's magic staff bloomed with a ray of red light as she said softly: "Enchantment, Soul!"

In this world, there was no distinction between soul and personality, and the Enchantment Magic Irene mastered had already reached its limit; she could do such a thing with ease.

Under everyone's curious gazes, the rabbit doll suddenly stood up and moved around a bit.

She looked around at the crowd in surprise, spotted Gray with tears in his eyes, and walked over to pat his head.

"Gray? You're already this big? Wasn't I frozen in ice? Where is this?"

"Ur, it's really you! Is it really you?"

Gray wailed loudly and hugged the rabbit doll tightly; he thought he would never see Ur again in this life.

"Little Gray, you're going to strangle me, let go a bit!"

"I'm sorry, Ur. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have died!"

"Silly boy, aren't I not dead? Eh? My body? A doll?"

"Gray, what exactly is going on?"

Seeing the two of them hugging and weeping, the others tactfully left to give them some private space.
