Chapter 224 - Messages and Advancement Requirements

Only after resolving this matter did Jieming finally relax.

Leaning back in his comfortable chair, he began to browse the magic net terminal in the laboratory, reviewing the accumulated information from the past fifty years.

Previously, he had only skimmed the monitoring records related to spatial stability. Now, with time to spare, Jieming realized the sheer volume of material he needed to process was overwhelming.

The terminal's message list, for example, contained not only David's updates on resource transfers and research progress, as well as transaction logs from the junction point over the past half-century, but also prominent messages from his two friends, Amy and Victor.

Their messages were similar, each having left two.

The first message from both was dated approximately forty years ago.

In it, they explained that they had completed their previous military service and had originally planned to visit Jieming to share their experiences.

Unfortunately, Jieming was still stationed on the distant Flamefrost Plane, overwhelmed by the arduous task of post-war accounting and unable to leave.

Reluctantly, they left a message urging Jieming to find them for a reunion upon his return.

The second message followed four or five years later.

After waiting several years and seeing no sign of Jieming's return, they left another message, stating they had decided to embark on a new round of military service.

Victor's message was more tactful. He simply informed Jieming that once they completed this new round of service, they would essentially have fulfilled the lengthy military service contract they had signed with the academy upon enrollment. At that point, they would finally gain true freedom and be able to choose their own paths.

Amy's message, however, was far more direct. With an unwavering tone tinged with anticipation, she urged Jieming to "wait for them." Once they returned from this service, the three of them would venture together as free wizards to the vast planar battlefields for true adventure.

As Jieming read their messages, especially Amy's confidence radiating between the lines, he couldn't help but smile knowingly. Judging by their tone, both of them seemed to have gained considerable experience during their decades of military service. Their strength and horizons had undoubtedly expanded greatly, leading them to believe they could now catch up to or even surpass him.

Though Jieming remained confident in his own abilities.

After all, during his fifty years in the living plane, Jieming had experienced a fortunate encounter and studied a vast amount of knowledge. His own progress likely far exceeded their imagination, and he didn't believe they could catch up to him so easily.

However, seeing his friends regain their spirit and find a new path forward on the cruel road of wizardry was a source of genuine joy for him.

He sent a brief message to both of them, informing them of his return and wishing them success in their military service.

After replying to other urgent messages, Jieming meticulously inspected and upgraded the Golden Garden's defensive systems, the underground laboratory's energy circulation, the arrangements for personnel within his territory, and even the Purgatory Sulfur Plane assigned to him. With all external matters finally resolved, he returned to his laboratory after more than ten days.

He took a deep breath, completely calming his mind, and formally began preparing for his advancement to second-tier wizard.

Among the three core requirements for advancing to second-tier wizard, Jieming's mental power had long since completely filled the Ring of Truth, meeting the hardware standard for advancement, thanks to his fifty years of unwavering meditation and accumulation on the Flamefrost Plane.

To reconstruct the Ring of Truth, Jieming needed an even more vast and complex system of knowledge. Over the past fifty years, he had accumulated a sea of information, dedicating his spare time to study and research, completing his knowledge reserves and preparing himself fully.

Now, only the final, most crucial step remained: achieving a state of "extreme activation" in both his soul and body.

This requirement essentially laid the groundwork for a second-tier wizard's future advancement to the third tier.

Only through extreme activation of the soul and body could one perceive the subtle shifts in the omnipresent "rules" governing the plane with greater clarity.

This preparation would be essential for selecting and studying rules in the future.

In actual combat, an extremely activated body and soul would also allow a wizard to better sense and harmonize with the surrounding elemental power.

This would significantly lower the wizard's threshold for manipulating elemental power, enabling faster spellcasting with reduced energy consumption.

Furthermore, if the wizard's chosen system was compatible, they could even briefly enter a state of "body elementalization" during battle.

However, based on discussions with Mentor Clark, Senior Viola, and Jieming himself, they generally advised against relying too heavily on body elementalization in combat.

According to the two experts, while body elementalization might seem to grant immunity to most physical damage, it could still be easily shattered by physical attacks of sufficient magnitude or those imbued with special rules.

Moreover, when facing elemental attacks that were homologous or antagonistic to the user's elemental nature, the elementalized body would become even more vulnerable, suffering double the damage.

This ability was, at best, useful for bullying weaker opponents. Against peers, reckless use would be suicidal.

Unfortunately, during planar wars, wizards typically faced enemies of equal or even superior grade.

Therefore, Jieming paid little attention to this supposed "combat advantage."

What truly caught his interest was the immense boost that extreme activation provided to perceiving rules.

However, with the current technology of the wizard civilization, most methods failed to maintain the body and soul's extreme activation at a stable, sustained level.

The few techniques capable of achieving this came at an exorbitant cost, requiring vast quantities of rare resources or extremely dangerous bloodline modifications.

Even with Jieming's vast wealth, after reviewing the data, he felt he simply couldn't afford it.

Thus, mainstream wizards devised a clever yet effective workaround: before attempting advancement, they would subject their bodies and souls to intense "transformation surgeries" or consume special "magic potions" to induce a temporary, unstable state of "activation."

Immediately afterward, they would perform the advancement ritual.

By harnessing the "life sublimation" phenomenon generated during the life-level transition of advancement, they could permanently stabilize and fix this temporary state!
