Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 - Apollo’s New Avatar

The Lost Vampire System Chapter 18 - Apollo's New Avatar

"Warning!" The system immediately activated. "You have signed a binding contract will Apollo, the Greek god of the sun. You have agreed to become Apollo's Avatar, which comes with great benefits. Downsides can include being hunted if the god has an enemy, etc. The system has decided to block the contract for 30 seconds in case the user changes his mind."

A screen popped up in his face displaying the "No" button.

"If the user wishes to cancel the contract, then press no. If the user wishes to go through, then wait the 30 seconds."

At that moment the clock started counting down.

"Um, it's not working," Apollo said taking the contract back. "You said you have the Trader ability, right?"

Jareth ignored the god as he stared at his system screen.

The system suggests that I change my mind. Could it really be that dangerous that I should change my mind? I could still take it and just grow it in secret, couldn't I? The sun power will be a great addition or trump card if I am in a life-threatening situation.

"I'm sorry Jareth," Apollo said in a sad tone interrupting his thoughts. "I really wish I could've helped you. I guess I'm just too weak to even make you my Avatar. I'll just stick by you until I fade into nothingness."

Jareth felt a slight pain in his heart hearing Apollo speaking this way. It also assured his that the weak and desperate god had no ill intentions.

I guess he isn't bad, Jareth thought. He might be desperate but not a bad person. I guess I'll just let it run down.

"Don't worry," Jareth said while looking at Apollo. "It's still adjusting.

System message, "three, two, and one. You have decided to keep your binding oath with the god Apollo."

Jareth's and Apollo's body glowed as an energy trail formed connecting the two. A smile appeared on his face as he gave out a big sigh.

"I can feel energy flowing again," the god cheered.

A moment later the energy trail vanished.

"You have become the Avatar to the Greek god, Apollo," the system began. "His divine essence now flows through you. Currently, Apollo was so weak that he would've disappeared two minutes from now if you had not become his Avatar."

"He would've died in two minutes," Jareth said with surprise.

"What?" Apollo stopped cheering as he heard that. "Two minutes?"

The system continued. "With the god being weak, you will have to work from the ground up in order to unlock his powers and restore his essence. Congratulations! You have acquired a new Trade. Trade: Apollo. Your permanent Trade slot has been applied. You may use this anytime. Your switchable Trade slot is still open: 0 of 5 switchable Trades. You have unlocked a new power. The Sun Bar: A Bar that holds the power of the sun called Solar Points. Solar points: 0 of 100. You must stand in the sun to gain Solar Points. You will gain 1 solar point every minute. New skill acquired through your connection to Apollo. Skill Sun Control: Allows the user to manifest and shape solar plasma into physical objects or constructs. The greater the Ability Level, the higher the density and heat of the objects. This skill uses Solar Points (SP) at a rate of 1 SP every minute it is active. If there is no sun in the area, you can use your solar points, but they will drain at a rapid pace. While Sun Control is active, the user cannot use other skills. Ability level: A Joke."

Jareth frowned at the system when it said "a joke" for the ability level.

"What are you looking at for so long?" Apollo asked as he tried to follow Jareth's gaze but there was nothing besides the wall of the ruin.

"Nothing," Jareth answered. "It seems like it has worked."

"Good," Apollo asked. "Now, where are we?"

Jareth paused because he didn't even think about this. His father told him to keep it a secret from anyone. Could he trust Apollo now since he was now his avatar?

I should test to see if he is trustworthy, Jareth thought. What should I do or ask him? Let's try to pry into his plans.

"What do you plan on doing next?" Jareth asked. "Since I'm your Avatar and all."

"Tagging along with you," Apollo said as he peaked outside. "I don't have any evil plans for you Jareth."

Apollo then snapped his head around showing an evil grin. The action caused a trigger within Jareth as he backed away. That's when something happened that has never happened before. His blue iris change from blue to a dim red. The smile on Apollo's face dropped faster than a shooting star as he backed away in fright.

"Vampire!" Apollo shrieked as he backed away. "I didn't know that you had a connection to Draven. I…I…I'm sorry that I left Draven's service! Please forgive me, lord Nightshade."

Apollo's knees hit the floor as he bowed his head down.

Jareth stood there a little confused as he looked down at Apollo. He felt like he should be the one bowing to a god.

Did he say Draven, Jareth thought. Like the one written on the laptop.

"You said Draven," Jareth stated the obvious. "Who's Draven?"

After a moment Apollo slowly lifted up his head to look at Jareth.

"Did you just ask who Draven was?" Apollo asked with shock written all over his face. "You are a Nightshade, surely you at least know who he is."

Jareth just shook his head as Apollo slowly stood up.

"What do you know about Draven?" Apollo asked curiously.

"All I know is that it was written on a laptop that my family possessed."

Apollo's eyes had widened when he heard about this. He ran his hair through his golden hair.

"We thought that the Nightshades had lost the system, but it turned out you guys had it this whole time," Apollo shockingly said. "Why would your family hide the system?"

"System?" Jareth asked. "You know about it too?"

Now, if you thought his eyes couldn't get any bigger, think again. His eyes were starting to exit his sockets.

"You good?" Jareth asked as he felt uncomfortable looking into his eyes.

"Am I good?" Apollo asked as his eyes went back to normal. "Your family are traitors to Draven. If anyone within his closest circle gets even a hint of this, your head will be put on a spike.

Jareth's heart started to beat hearing this, but Apollo wasn't finished.

"You don't know about Draven, but you do know about the system. Does that mean…?"

Apollo's eyes went halfway out of its sockets again making Jareth shiver.

"Stop doing that," Jareth demanded.

"Do you possesses the system?!" Apollo yelled causing Jareth to jump in place.

Apollo placed his hands on the outside of his head like he was just caught stealing candy from a baby.

"What were you thinking?" he asked. "Now we are both in trouble."

"Both?" The Half-ling questioned.

"I made you my Avatar, so we are in this together no matter what. All you have to do is get strong enough to beat him. I could tell you about Draven, but it would just freak you out. Just try to hide your power for as long as you can while growing it."

Apollo glanced around before looking back at Jareth.

"Please tell me you can evolve."

"I evolved twice," Jareth said like he wasn't sure but that was enough for the god to give a big sigh.

"That's good," Apollo said. "I want to live and you want to live I assume so we or I guess mostly you will have to grow your power. Finding allies as well. Draven is currently weak in a slumber put his second in command is still active and he has other allies around that would squash you like a bug."

"What did I get myself into?" Jareth sighed as he kicked a small rock that was on the ground.

"I know this is a lot all at once but with my knowledge I hope to teach you everything that you need to know so that at the least he or his people will be hesitant to attack you."

"Override successful," the Draven system announced.

"What was that?" Apollo asked.

"You can hear it to?"

"The system was able to override the Bracelet of Dominion for seven days. After seven days the system will be unable to override the artifact and you will be teleported back into the pocket dimension. You will be unable to leave unless you kill the 86 remaining Simple tier hounds. The system advises that you prepare for those seven days."

"I can hear the system," Apollo stated. "So that's what Draven meant about his getting advice.

"This Draven had a system as well? Jareth asked.

"Yes, this is his 2.0 version that one of his people had been working on. Now that you have it, he will be mad."

The system continued. "Would you like to exit the Bracelet of Dominion. Yes or No?"

What!" Apollo yelled again causing the half-ling to jump.

"What now?" Jareth asked starting to get annoyed at the god now.

"You have the Bracelet of Dominion?" Apollo asked but not even waiting for Jareth to respond he continued. "We actually have a chance now at not just stalling Draven, but actually beating him."

"What do you mean?"

"It is said that the one who possess the artifact is able to summon and control an army of dungeon Becifers."

"What?" Jareth said in shocked.

Apollo walked outside and Jareth followed. Once they were outside Apollo looked around at the wall of fog.

"I'm going to say that each owner had to earn that power. Sorry my Avatar. You should probably get back. Where are you exactly?"

"I'm at the sixth military academy."

"Already at the school," Apollo said with a smile. "Might save me the trouble of teaching you some things."

At the moment Apollo finished talking his body turned into golden mist and entered Jareth's chest. He just stared at the night sky in confusion before he heard a voice in his head that sounded like Apollo's.

"I'm just resting," Apollo told Jareth in his mind. "I'll have to do this for a while. Just note that I can see everything that you are doing. I can't directly hear your casual thoughts but if you think in a projective way I can hear them. It's hard to explain."

"Got it," Jareth said.

"Try not to talk to me out loud, people might think you're weird."

Jareth chuckled as he selected "Yes" on his screen. Immediately the world began to dissolve. He found himself standing directly on his bed. Jareth looked around and looked at the clock that was on his nightstand. It said 11:50pm.

How long was I even in there for? Jareth thought.

"According to what I know time inside the artifact is three times faster than the real world," Apollo answered Jareth in his head. "You'll have to know when you went in to confirm that though."

"I'm not going to get used to this," Jareth muttered as he got into his bed and within ten seconds fell asleep.
