The Lost Vampire System Chapter 42 - The Island
Madison and Jareth had reached the group of people that was quickly starting to pile up, as this was an event only announced one hour ago within the NYXIS app. Madison looked like herself in the real world, while Jareth had on a disguise that made him look like a gang member, with an orange and dark teal-style suit and orange hair.
"It's going to start any minute," Madison said excitedly. "Now the place should look either like a huge underground arena, an above-ground one, or a small island. The artifact will be in the middle, and there will be traps, Becifers, or other things in there. What we do is either stay on the side or near a group, and when they are attacked, we go in to eliminate one for coins or collect when they all just die. To be honest, this is a little more exciting to me because I've always done this alone."
At the entrance and exit of NYXIS, a beam of white light slammed down on one of the circles. When the light disappeared, it was a man wearing a very light orange angelic armor set. His armor glowed as orange, angel-like wings protruded from his back, lighting up the area. When people around him saw this, they all reacted in fear as some tried to run away.
"It's CopyLord," someone shouted.
CopyLord rushed at the person and touched his arm, and a frown immediately appeared on his face.
"You're Evolved power is disgusting." CopyLord, who was actually Damion, said in disgust as he tried to see if he had another Evolved power. "Fear projection, nice."
The person put his hand on Damion's head, but before he could use his first Evolved power, Damion grabbed his neck and twisted. A snap was heard as the body fell and exploded, sending coins, armor, and a single spear out, which Damion absorbed into his inventory. Damion dashed to the side, touching a girl who shrieked in fear.
"What is your power?" he asked as he had a confused expression on his face. "Is this a sonic scream but when you fart?"
Her face went red as she tried to save her dignity.
"I don't use that, but for some reason I can use the Evo cells with my lightning powers."
Damion smiled as he copied her other power, and a smile appeared on his face.
"A level 10. Thanks for the large Evo cells count and explaining it," Damion said. "What's your username?"
"BangLightning," she said. "I'm from Military Base One."
Damion smiled as he opened his inventory and left out 1,000 gold coins. She smiled as she absorbed it and then ran away.
Damion turned and was about to walk toward the large hologram of CyberGirl when a green energy beam slammed to his left side. CopyLord turned his head, as only a few people in all of NYXIS have their own signature energy beam, and only one was green… CyberGirl's.
When the green beam disappeared, standing there was CyberGirl wearing her usual sleek black futuristic armor with glowing green lines running along the joints and seams. She was also wearing a matching black mask, which was the same style as the armor that covered the entirety of her face.
She looked around before her gaze landed on Damion, who was grinning like he had found the person with the highest Evo cell count, which he had. Damion dashed forward toward her as he reached out to touch the only open part of her face. Just before he could touch her nose, her arm changed into a cannon and blasted CopyLord away. His body went flying, but he caught himself midair.
"You're too annoying to deal with, especially with your copy ability, CopyLord. I have to start my event now."
"Good luck finding CrimsonDawn!" Damion shouted just as she was beamed toward her hologram statue. "Whoever the person may be," he finished as he transformed into a lightning bolt and quickly headed toward the entrance of CyberGirl's event.
Back at the crowd, people started to stir as the hologram started to move like CyberGirl was now the hologram.
"Hello all," the hologram of CyberGirl announced. "I felt bored, so I decided to host a free artifact battle royale event. I know that many of you saw the video yesterday, and I can assure you that nothing was wrong with the game. With that being said, let's begin!"
Her hologram returned to its statue stance as the place where the portal was marked to appear lit up, and a huge green portal appeared. The ground surged forward, and they entered the portal while holding hands. They found themselves falling from the sky with the blue sky above them as the portal they came out of vanished. There was a screen that popped up in the bottom right corner of their vision that showed a picture of a glider and said, "Click to activate."
"This feels familiar," Jareth said through the whipping of the air as they fell together. "Like I played a game similar to this."
"I forgot the game, but it had only been out for like a year before NYXIS came out, and the game died instantly," Madison said. "It just starts out the same!"
As they continued to fall, Jareth looked at the island below. It was surrounded by clear water, and it was mostly green with forests, grasslands, and small towns everywhere. Directly in the center was a huge castle that looked like a trillionaire had spent every last dollar to build it. Surrounding it was a hologram shield that said, "Don't glide here."
They were a couple hundred feet from the ground near the edge of the island when a purple glider deployed, wrapping them in a harness. As they slowly floated down, which wasn't possible in real life, they watched as someone apparently missed the warning and glided into the hologram shield. It lit up red, sending out an energy pulse within the dome, and the person was sent spiraling out of it, heading toward where the two were. When he thought that was it, a beam of green light came out of the highest point of the tower, hitting and exploding the person.
"Payday," Madison said as they landed on the ground at the bottom of a mountain, and every part of their gliders vanished.
The majority of the person's inventory fell right in front of them, with some landing around them.
"Dang it," Madison said. "He doesn't have much. Jareth, just open the NYXIS screen and make a sweeping motion into it."
He was slightly confused but decided to listen to her as he opened the NYXIS screen and did the waving motion. The entire pile of gold coins floated onto the screen until there was nothing left. His eyes widened when it said that he had 750 gold coins.
"Wow," Jareth said as he looked at the amount. "If only I could take this out."
"If only," Madison agreed. "I wouldn't even have bothered with the vault if I could. It's funny because NYXIS has an online marketplace where you can buy things in the real world from within the app or in-game, but you can't use the in-game currency. Like imagine being able to purchase a high-tier piece of armor with the game currency, but you're broke in the real world. Taking money out on the first of the month is dangerous because people are guarding the places where you can to make easy money."
"That's a little annoying," Jareth said. "I tried once and never again. I'm hoping that one day our group can get together to fight through it. It seems like Damion is in and ready for July 1st. Do you know his gamer tag?"
"I do not," Madison admitted. "Probably something with the word 'Copy' in it. There are just so many people with 'copy' for no reason."
Jareth nodded as the two started to head toward the nearest town. Besides the artifact, you could kill the in-game Becifers for gold coins. The closer to the island's center, the harder the Becifers get, but the more gold coins they give. The battle royale ends when someone gets a hold of the artifact.
CyberGirl appeared at the top part of the castle at the very center of the island, where the beam attack had come from. Next to her was a ring on a table. The artifact was one that allowed the person to have three lives instead of one. A life of the ring takes a week of in-game time to recharge.
"Let's see where you are," CyberGirl said. "Flying mechanics in this battle royale are disabled within the dome, so I can delay someone claiming this as long as I can. Let's put an information bounty on your head from a unanimous source."
She opened up the NYXIS screen, and a search bar popped up. She typed "Set bounty" and put a 10,000-dollar bounty for the location of CrimsonDawn. NYXIS kept track of where every player was, but unfortunately, she could no longer use that feature and had to use the bounty system, and if someone gave an accurate representation of the person, NYXIS would transfer the gold coins over.
"I'll see you soon, CrimsonDawn."
