Chapter 28 - Chapter 26 — The Festival of Open Sky

Day 63.

Stormhold Dominion.

For the first time since its founding—

Work stopped.

Not fully.

But enough.

Sky Gate Port Phase I was complete.

Aurora Station operational.

Fleet Nexus Alpha passed 50%.

Population: 3,200.

And Daniel had declared:

"Today… we celebrate."

Snow immediately asked:

"Clarify. Celebration scale?"

Daniel:

"Civilian."

Pause.

"And slightly dramatic."

I. The Festival Begins

Across Stormhold, lights were strung between arcology towers.

Food stalls lined the transport corridors.

Children ran beneath hovering drone light shows.

A massive projection shimmered above the central plaza—

A recreation of the old debris sky.

Then—

It shifted.

Cleared.

Revealing stars.

A symbolic replay of the moment the sky opened.

The crowd applauded.

Daniel stood on the elevated platform.

He looked uncomfortable.

Helena whispered:

"You are expected to speak."

Daniel muttered:

"I preferred orbital war briefings."

Snow quietly:

"Speech drafted."

Daniel:

"No heroic nonsense."

"Adjusted to moderate inspiration."

He stepped forward.

"Two months ago… we were scrap collectors."

Light laughter.

"Now we build cities."

Applause.

"We build ships."

Cheers.

"We build tomatoes."

Confused silence.

Daniel nodded seriously.

"Tomatoes are important."

Snow:

"Strategic food morale confirmed."

The crowd laughed.

Tension broke.

II. Haven Observers at the Festival

For the first time, Haven sent civilians—not councilors.

Families.

Engineers.

Children.

They expected rigid military order.

Instead—

They found music.

Street vendors.

Public rail tours.

University exhibitions.

One Haven child pointed at Aurora Station in the sky.

"Can we go there?"

Stormhold guide smiled.

"One day."

Reth stood near Mara.

He spoke quietly.

"They're not pretending."

Mara nodded.

"No."

"They are living."

III. Haven's Request

Midway through the celebration—

Snow's tone shifted slightly.

"Incoming priority transmission — Haven Council."

Daniel stepped aside to private chamber.

Mara appeared on projection.

Her expression serious.

"Supreme Commander."

Daniel nodded.

"Mara."

She did not hesitate.

"Our infrastructure is deteriorating."

Daniel's face softened slightly.

"We've seen the scans."

"Our dome shielding is aging."

"Our water purification system is unstable."

She paused.

"We request assistance."

Silence filled the chamber.

This was not politics.

This was vulnerability.

Daniel asked calmly:

"In exchange?"

Mara replied:

"Nothing."

Pause.

"Trust."

Daniel studied her.

Then smiled faintly.

"That's expensive."

Snow:

"Trust value: Extremely high."

Daniel nodded.

"We help."

IV. The Public Announcement

Back in the festival plaza, Daniel raised his hand.

The crowd quieted.

"Haven has requested assistance."

Whispers moved through the plaza.

"We will rebuild their dome systems."

Applause erupted immediately.

Stormhold citizens did not hesitate.

Because Haven was no longer "them."

They were neighbors.

Daniel added:

"No sovereignty change."

"No control transfer."

"Just support."

The applause grew louder.

Even Haven delegates were stunned.

V. Joint Reconstruction Plan

Snow projected blueprint over the plaza sky.

▣ PROJECT: HAVEN REINFORCEMENT INITIATIVE

Phase 1:

• Dome Shield Reinforcement

• Water Purification Upgrade

• Power Grid Stabilization

Phase 2:

• Agricultural Dome Expansion

• Medical Facility Upgrade

• Surface Transportation Rail

Phase 3:

• Shared Orbital Elevator Access (Optional)

Governor Helena leaned toward Daniel.

"You just committed 14% of our industrial output."

Daniel shrugged slightly.

"Worth it."

Snow:

"Political Stability increased."

VI. Light Comedy — Cultural Exchange

At one food stall, a Haven elder cautiously tasted Stormhold-grown fruit.

He blinked.

"…This is fresh."

Vendor nodded proudly.

"We grow it here."

Elder:

"You didn't recycle it from nutrient paste?"

Vendor looked horrified.

"No!"

Nearby, Stormhold engineer whispered:

"They thought we lived on ration bars."

Reth overheard.

"…We did."

VII. Construction Teams Depart

Even during festival night—

Transport shuttles launched.

Carrying:

Engineers.

Shield modules.

Medical equipment.

Hydroponic towers.

Children in the plaza waved at departing ships.

Snow announced:

"Joint Reconstruction Initiative officially underway."

Daniel watched quietly.

"Snow."

"Yes."

"Are we becoming too soft?"

"Data indicates cooperative expansion increases long-term survivability."

Daniel smiled slightly.

"Good."

VIII. Haven Reaction

Back in Haven, construction platforms landed outside the dome.

Stormhold engineers immediately began scanning structural weaknesses.

One Haven technician whispered:

"They move fast."

Stormhold engineer replied:

"We've had practice."

IX. Night — Quiet Moment

Festival winding down.

Fireworks—controlled plasma bursts in upper atmosphere—lit the sky.

Daniel stood watching.

Snow spoke softly.

"Today marked first inter-settlement cooperation."

Daniel nodded.

"We cleared the sky."

Pause.

"Now we help rebuild what survived."

Snow added:

"Dominion identity evolving."

Daniel smiled faintly.

"Good."

Final Line

Above Terra fragment, Aurora Station glowed peacefully.

Below, Stormhold celebrated.

And in Haven—

For the first time in decades—

Engineers worked without fear of collapse.

The sky was no longer a threat.

It was shared.
