Xiao Jingran immediately handed over a glass of water to Zhou Wenzhi, who had choked upon hearing Zhou Anran's words.
"This egg is from the chickens at the barn?" He was astonished.
Xiao Yuxi tilted her head and joked. "Why are you so surprised, Grandfather? The chickens couldn't be all roosters, right?"
"No," Zhou Wenzhi shook his head and muttered, "These are all hens, but they are still young and should need another two weeks before they can start laying eggs."
The Xiao family members coughed softly and glanced at each other.
"Maybe the livestock trader forgot about the chickens' real age or accidentally picked the older ones?" Xiao Fenghao offered a not-so-convincing explanation.
Zhou Wenzhi shook his head. "Judging from their size, the trader wasn't wrong. They haven't reached the adequate size to lay eggs."
Even though he harbored some doubts, Zhou Wenzhi didn't want to interrupt the family's dinner time, so he changed the subject and urged them to start eating.
