Chapter 22 - Kiriko, the Cheater! [22]

Lying on the bed, Kiriko let her mind wander freely.

She had this bad habit even in her previous life—she didn't deliberately think about anything, yet her brain often wandered aimlessly, conjuring random thoughts.

She yawned.

Time to sleep. Whatever it is, I'll deal with it tomorrow.

Anyway, at my current level, there's nothing I can't handle.

I'll just wing it when the time comes.

Kiriko rolled onto her side, her preferred sleeping posture from her past life.

But just as she closed her eyes, preparing to empty her mind…

"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH—!"

The sudden scream nearly sent her tumbling from the bed.

What's going on?

Kiriko jumped up, looking toward the source of the noise. Raphtalia, on the adjacent bed, was screaming while bursting into tears.

"Hey, Raphtalia, what's wrong? A nightmare?"

Kiriko hurried over, gathering the sobbing Raphtalia into her arms.

Feeling Kiriko's embrace, Raphtalia tightly clung to her in return.

"Don't be afraid. Big sister's right here—I'll protect you. It's okay now."

Kiriko didn't really know what to do, instinctively stroking Raphtalia's head and softly comforting her.

Perhaps Kiriko's efforts worked, because Raphtalia's screams gradually turned into quiet sobbing.

At that very moment, however, an impatient voice came through the wall.

"Quit your damn crying in the middle of the night! What is this, your mom's funeral?"

Without hesitation, Kiriko punched directly through the wall. Peering through the new hole, she saw a pair of half-dressed lovers embracing, apparently about to engage in unspeakable activities.

The man stared blankly at the hole and Kiriko's icy glare, then immediately dropped to his knees.

"S-sorry! My bad! I'll apologize to your mom right away!"

Finally, Kiriko managed to calm Raphtalia down again.

Kiriko sighed.

After all, Raphtalia was just ten years old. It was understandable for her to have nightmares—especially given what she'd gone through, being passed from owner to owner. It was normal she'd feel frightened enough to have bad dreams.

After comforting Raphtalia and laying her back down, Kiriko was about to return to her own bed, but felt her clothes being tugged.

Raphtalia didn't say a word. Her tear-reddened eyes just stared at Kiriko, filled with anxiety and reluctance.

This kid…

Ah, whatever. I'll just treat her like a warm, breathing pillow.

As soon as Kiriko lay down, Raphtalia grabbed hold of her like a child who'd found a new favorite toy.

Having never shared a bed with anyone before, Kiriko thought to herself, "Is being hugged by someone always this hot?"

After closing her eyes, Kiriko had no idea how long she slept. By the time she woke, sunlight was already brightening the previously dark room.

Is it morning already?

Kiriko rolled over, intending to laze around a bit longer—but then her hand touched a damp patch.

Huh? Why is it wet here?

All remaining sleepiness immediately vanished.

Opening her eyes, Kiriko noticed she was alone in the bed.

Right next to where her hand had touched was an obvious stain with an unmistakable faint odor.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorrysorrysorrysorrysorry…"

Following the sound, Kiriko spotted Raphtalia huddled in the corner, repeatedly apologizing with her head lowered.

Wordlessly, Kiriko rose from the bed and dressed herself.

What should she say? A ten-year-old still wetting the bed was certainly embarrassing if word got out.

But compared to embarrassment, Raphtalia clearly feared Kiriko's anger more.

It's just bedwetting—who didn't wet the bed as a kid? Heck, even adults sometimes wet themselves.

Kiriko's favorite horror-game streamer from her past life often said something like:

"Friends, if you gotta pee, just pee."

After dressing, Kiriko initially thought to sit back on the bed, but upon seeing the stain, decided instead to sit on the floor.

She waved Raphtalia over.

Raphtalia trembled from head to toe, shaking continuously.

"What are you just standing there for? Hurry over here."

Only then did Raphtalia slowly shuffle over, practically inching her way forward until she reached Kiriko.

"Stay standing and don't move."

Kiriko reached toward Raphtalia.

"No! Master, I'm sorry—I was wrong, please don't hurt me too much! I'm sorry, waaah…"

Raphtalia instinctively shielded her head and curled into a ball on the floor.

"What are you doing lying down like that? How am I supposed to get your panties off?"

Kiriko rubbed her temples, suddenly feeling a headache.

"Your panties must be wet too, right? Quickly take them off. Is your clothing wet too? If so, remove it as well. Didn't I buy you plenty of clothes? Why aren't you changing into a clean set? You're already sick—if you don't change out of these wet clothes, you'll just get worse, got it?"

Raphtalia stared blankly at Kiriko, before abruptly breaking into a coughing fit.

"Cough… cough, cough, cough…"

"See, speak of the devil. Hurry and get those clothes off."

Kiriko had Raphtalia remove her soiled clothing and change into fresh garments, then took another potion out of her Dimensional Bag.

Seeing the potion, Raphtalia's watery eyes immediately turned pleadingly toward Kiriko.

"Don't give me that adorable look. This is your punishment for wetting the bed. Drink it quickly."

Raphtalia's expression became painfully pitiful, but after hearing Kiriko's words, she reluctantly drank the potion with a bitter face.

After finishing it, Raphtalia wore an expression that screamed "I'm dying," though her complexion did seem noticeably improved from yesterday.

Kiriko left the wet sheets and clothes where they were. She could have the inn staff take care of the cleanup later.

Given enough coins, she was sure the staff would be more than happy to handle it.
