Chapter 1 - JUJU

This story is based on a supposed true incident that took place in the Barisal region of Bangladesh.

It was around 7:00 or 7:30 in the evening. The last light of dusk had faded, and a heavy silence had settled over the village. Inside a small, dimly lit house, a mother was trying desperately to feed her young child. The kerosene lamp flickered weakly, throwing long, trembling shadows across the mud walls.

But the child refused to eat.

The mother tried everything—gentle coaxing, playful voices, even mild scolding. Still, the child kept turning his face away, pushing the food aside with tiny hands. Frustration slowly replaced patience.

In that area, there was an old and terrifying folk tale about something called *Juju*—a small demon-like entity. People said if you called its name twice, it would come. No one knew exactly what it was, only that it came for those who invited it.

Annoyed and hoping to frighten her child into obedience, the mother leaned closer and whispered, "Juju is coming."

The child paused, eyes wide for a moment—but then still refused to eat.

Irritated now, she said it again, a little louder this time, "Juju is coming."

The word hung in the air.

She then went into the next room to fetch something, perhaps thinking the scare tactic would finally work.

The house grew unnaturally quiet.

When she returned just moments later, what she saw was something no human mind could ever be prepared for.

Standing beside her child was a creature no taller than two or three feet. It had the shape of a human, but its limbs were twisted and unnaturally thin. Its skin looked dark and stretched tight over its bones. Its head was slightly too large for its body, and its eyes—small, deep, and glistening—reflected the lamplight like those of a wild animal.

The child lay motionless.

The creature had torn open the child's stomach with its long, claw-like fingers. Warm blood soaked the bedding. The air was thick with the metallic smell of it. The tiny body was split open, and the creature crouched over it, pulling out organs with deliberate, hungry movements.

It was eating.

Chewing.

The sound was wet and sickening.

The mother stood frozen, unable to scream, unable to breathe. Her mind refused to accept what her eyes were seeing.

Slowly, the creature lifted its head. Strands of flesh hung from its mouth. Its thin lips stretched into something that resembled a smile.

In a rasping, childlike voice, it looked directly at her and said:

"Juju is eating."

The lamp flickered violently.

And then everything went dark.
