Chapter 49: Naruto One-Shots the Chunin Demon Brothers
Sakura's face lit up with excitement when she heard.
"That's great~ Finally no more cat- or dog-finding missions!"
Kakashi shifted his Konoha headband slightly, feeling the need to give a quick reality check.
So he added lazily:
"This is your first real mission as ninjas—don't get too excited yet."
"Once you leave the village, it's no longer as safe as inside."
After a pause, Kakashi thought for a moment and continued:
"Whatever. This mission's difficulty isn't very high. With me protecting you on the road, basically nothing will go wrong."
"Just watch, learn, and ask if you don't understand."
Though honestly, I'm too lazy to explain.
He didn't say the last part out loud.
Because he was that lazy.
With any free time, wouldn't reading a book be better?
But as a teacher,
some things had to be said.
No helping it.
Everything ready.
The group packed their luggage and dry rations. The five of them set off early.
Tazuna never let go of his sake along the way. Every few steps, he'd lift the gourd hanging at his waist and take a few gulps.
The smell of alcohol was strong.
A bit pungent.
Naruto didn't mind—he wasn't particularly fond of "horse piss."
If the liquid hadn't looked so murky,
he might've asked for a few sips himself.
The road was boring, no smartphones to kill time.
So Tazuna found a topic to fill the silence.
"I remember clearly stating in the mission request that I needed Konoha's strongest ninja for escort. I assume you're all very powerful?"
Good grief!
Paying the minimum fee
and still expecting the best ninja escort.
He must be dreaming…
Tazuna was just flattering them.
Naruto and the others didn't take it seriously.
But the next moment,
Sakura looked even prouder—almost smug.
"That's right! You have quite the discerning eye."
Tazuna nodded, not really taking it to heart.
"I heard the Hokage is Konoha's strongest ninja?"
Sakura's eyes sparkled with interest.
"Yes! Our village's strongest is Lord Hokage. Anyone who becomes Hokage is outstanding in every way…"
Sakura rattled on excitedly.
She even glanced secretly at Naruto from time to time.
She clearly remembered Naruto's goal was to become Hokage!
And now she had the same goal!
Mm… a model Konoha girl—ambitious, principled, responsible!
Her goal: become the woman of the Hokage!
But she didn't know—
Naruto did plan to become Hokage… eventually.
As a hands-off figurehead.
He'd keep the title, dump all the work on others.
Who could stand mountains of paperwork?
Normal people couldn't handle it.
After Sakura finished, she looked at Kakashi with satisfaction.
"By the way, Kakashi-sensei—does the Land of Waves really have no other ninjas?"
So Kakashi reluctantly gave them a little history lesson.
Behind every superpower nation
stood a hidden ninja village as its military force.
The competition between countries worked the same way.
Naruto listened half-heartedly on the side.
He wasn't very interested.
Simply put—
the ninja world was survival of the fittest.
The one with the biggest fist had the final say!
"Many small countries lack the strength to maintain a ninja village, so they have no ninjas."
"But they can issue missions to recruit ninjas."
"It's convenient—both sides get what they need."
Kakashi finished, then yawned lazily.
Sakura still wanted more.
The charm of storytelling was exactly this.
Today she learned a lot of new information she never knew before.
"Master—be careful. See those two puddles ahead?"
"There are two chakra signatures inside."
"Chunin-level strength."
Kurama's voice spoke respectfully from within.
It believed Naruto had already noticed.
It was just reminding him.
The purpose was simple.
It wanted to show off in front of its master.
Prove that Kurama wasn't completely useless.
Mm… it did have a tiny bit of use.
The corner of Naruto's mouth curved slightly.
His gaze casually flicked toward Kakashi beside him.
Kakashi had his hands in his pockets, looking relaxed—he had definitely noticed something off.
Sakura and Tazuna were completely oblivious to the approaching danger.
Still chatting and laughing happily.
"Just two worthless chunin—the Demon Brothers? Too bad I'm not the same person I used to be."
Naruto grinned inwardly.
He naturally recognized those two assassins.
Zabuza Momochi's subordinates—rogue ninjas from the Hidden Mist Village, nicknamed the Demon Brothers.
The next instant—
the change happened.
Suddenly, two figures burst from the puddles on the ground—dressed in black, fully wrapped, wearing face masks.
Sharp spikes protruded from their arms and bodies.
In the blink of an eye!
The moment they emerged, they locked onto Kakashi—the biggest perceived threat.
"First one!"
The Demon Brothers' tone was sinister, like vengeful ghosts coming to claim lives.
Swish swish…
No hesitation—once they acted, chains covered in razor-sharp spikes
instantly wrapped around Kakashi from all sides.
In a flash—blood sprayed everywhere. Kakashi was cut in half at the waist!
A lethal strike.
No holding back.
The teacher who had just been chatting and laughing
was killed instantly.
The bloody scene made Sakura—being a girl—scream in terror.
"Aaaahhhhh…!!"
Everything happened too fast.
Sakura's face went deathly pale. Her body seemed to lose all strength. She instinctively turned to run.
But she couldn't move an inch.
Humanity's most basic fight-or-flight response manifested in her.
A faint smell of urine wafted out.
Fortunately, it wasn't too noticeable.
Seeing their first strike succeed, the Demon Brothers began to swell with arrogance.
"Second one!"
They charged straight toward Naruto.
Their performance was exactly like cannon-fodder rushing to feed kills and give free warmth.
The words "reckless idiot" and "iron-head brat"
weren't enough to describe the Demon Brothers' heroic actions.
Inside Naruto, Kurama grinned even wider.
"Two fearless idiots. Since when are chunin this brave? This guy over here is the Great Demon King—pick your opponents properly."
Visible blue chakra whirlwinds gathered rapidly in Naruto's hands.
Zzzzt…
God-tier taijutsu wasn't a joke.
Naruto's burst of speed was terrifyingly fast.
Two small Rasengans smashed directly into the Demon Brothers' hearts—one each!
Fair share for both!
"What the—?!"
Terror filled the brothers' faces. Their eyes quickly lost light.
Their internal organs were completely shredded and twisted into mush.
Their clothes were torn to rags.
Though there was no gory spray of blood!
Their insides had been utterly destroyed.
In mere seconds, both collapsed—dead beyond dead.
Until their last breath, the Demon Brothers never understood
why a mere Konoha genin possessed such a terrifying ninjutsu.
Living in Konoha for over ten years
as one of the sheltered flowers, Sakura saw blood again!
Her delicate body trembled uncontrollably. She covered her mouth with both hands as dry heaves hit her.
"Urgh…"
The crisis was over. Sakura's face looked awful. She collapsed into a duck-sitting position on the ground.
Her dazed eyes stared at Naruto.
Naruto… had just killed someone!
Sasuke, Lang!!
