Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: A Temporary End to the Turmoil

"You two little bugs, you're annoying."

The green Lizard Doctor Connors spoke to the two guys who had been obstructing him. Relying on his thick skin, he ignored some of Peter's attacks. But just as he was preparing to emulate King Kong and climb the skyscraper, another little bug jumped out from nowhere and hit him until he began to doubt his life. This one was much stronger than the guy from before.

"Hey! Bro, I'm your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Looking at your outfit, you must be imitating me! This black and white suit looks really cool!"

Although he was surprised that another character overlapping with his own had popped up, the open-minded and simple Peter included the other party on his side—the side of justice—the moment they attacked The Lizard Doctor.

But his words made Gwen's face under the mask instantly darken. 'Bro?' Who is your bro? I'm a woman; you can't even tell that much? No wonder you're single, Peter. However, given Gwen's good upbringing, she didn't say it out loud, nor did she pay attention to Spider-Man's chatter. In her black and white suit, she appeared very cold and aloof. But Gwen wasn't without a temper; she could always teach this guy a lesson back at school.

"Bro! Why aren't you talking? Bro."

Finally having a 'newbie hero' like himself, Peter sincerely wanted to make a friend. When Artoria appeared last time, she displayed immense power; he held that senior in high regard but didn't dare to be too forward. With a fresh 'rookie' around, he felt as if he had found someone who spoke his language.

"Enough. There's a limit to how much you can ignore someone."

Thoroughly enraged by Peter's behavior, The Lizard Doctor charged at the two of them in a fury. Unfortunately, his speed wasn't very fast, and he was easily avoided by the two highly agile individuals.

"This guy's recovery ability is too strong. I can't use the flame power I haven't mastered yet; this is a bit troublesome."

Although Gwen didn't speak, she carefully noticed her own shortcomings—or rather, Spider-Man's shortcomings. Their means of attack were very limited, relying entirely on strength, agility, plus web-shooters and spider silk to fight. They had more than enough for self-preservation but lacked offensive power.

"I know this man. His name is Dr. Connors. He's injected himself with a regeneration serum. I think I can create an antidote. Can you help me hold him off for about ten minutes?"

Hearing the name, Gwen froze for a moment. She knew Dr. Connors; he had originally invited her to intern with him, but she had chosen Miss Artoria's group instead. That gentle doctor had actually turned into this monstrous state. To be honest, she felt a bit uneasy, but she still nodded to indicate she understood.

Having received Gwen's 'reply,' Peter didn't say more. He instantly left the battlefield and sprinted toward the Osborn Building.

"He ran away. Now it's just you, little bug."

"Watch me tear you apart."

Seeing Peter 'fearfully' leave, the clearly cognitively-impaired Lizard Doctor laughed wildly. His hideous face was filled with cruelty and malice. But he didn't know that Gwen had been holding back until now; otherwise, he would have long since become a roasted lizard.

"Saturday, authorize the Spider Suit's attack system for Gwen."

Sitting in her office, Artoria saw Gwen's predicament. Did anyone really think Artoria would give things away without doing anything? She was no saint; what she gave Gwen was a test version. She had been testing the practicality of this thing, and it seemed quite good. She unlocked the Spider Suit's weapon system.

"This is?"

Just after Artoria gave authorization, a blue light flashed across the eyes of Gwen's suit. Three pairs of spider legs instantly extended from her back, sharp and tough, looking chilling to the bone.

"Sorry, Doctor, I might have to hurt you."

She didn't stop to think why the suit's weapons had suddenly activated, but now she was finally no longer so passive. The spider legs behind her were so convenient to operate, moving entirely according to her own will.

"Awoo~!"

A certain lizard's painful roar echoed through the entire New York City sky, making those who heard it instinctively mutter, 'Oh! Damn God.' What on Earth was going on? It sounded far too miserable.

"Finally finished. Sorry I'm late..."

Ten minutes later, Peter arrived at the battle site with the antidote. Before he could finish his sentence, he was startled by the scene before him. The Lizard Doctor was pinned to the ground in a difficult posture by six long, sharp'spears.' Green blood pooled on the ground, and there was a faint smell of roasted meat on him. The Lizard Doctor was now like a... no! He was currently a wounded Beast, howling on the ground, looking somewhat pitiful.

"You did this?"

He subconsciously asked Gwen, who was standing nearby. Not getting a response, Peter didn't dare say anything. He pulled out the'spears' from The Lizard Doctor and, while the wounds were rapidly healing, took the blue serum and injected it into him. Soon, a one-armed man appeared on the ground. Gwen didn't stick around and left quickly, leaving Peter alone to wrap things up.

Artoria wasn't the only one watching the battle tonight. S.H.I.E.L.D., 'Hydra,' and another man with a very evil smile stood on the top floor of the Osborn Building, watching it all.

"Interesting bugs. I really want to see how much longer you can hop around when your bones are being crushed."
