Chapter 5 - Containment Protocol

They tried to arrest him before sunset.

Not publicly.

Not dramatically.

Quietly.

Three black armored vehicles blocked the emergency exit corridor of the temporary command center. Soldiers stood in disciplined formation, rifles lowered but ready.

Major Elena Voss approached first.

Her face was calm.

Too calm.

"Arav Sen," she said evenly. "You are being placed under temporary protective containment."

"Protective," Arav repeated.

"Yes."

Dante stepped forward immediately. "Containment? He just saved half the city."

Mira's eyes narrowed slightly.

Voss didn't look away from Arav. "The unidentified entities have targeted him twice. We need answers."

"Or control," Arav said quietly.

Her jaw tightened.

Good. That meant he wasn't wrong.

Behind Voss, another man stepped forward. Civilian clothes. Expensive suit. No military badge.

But his eyes—

Silver.

Faint.

Almost unnoticeable.

Arav's stomach tightened.

Not glowing like the white-haired Executor.

But similar.

Too similar.

The man smiled politely. "Director Halden. National Security Council."

He extended his hand.

Arav didn't shake it.

Halden didn't seem offended.

"You're very important to national stability, Mr. Sen."

"Or inconvenient," Arav replied.

Halden's smile widened slightly.

"Depends on your cooperation."

System flicker.

[Observer Mark Resonance Detected]

Confirmed.

He's connected.

Not full Executor.

But influenced.

An infiltrator.

Arav looked at Major Voss.

"Is he military?"

"No."

"Then he shouldn't be here."

Halden chuckled softly. "We all answer to someone."

That line confirmed it.

Authority hierarchy language.

Not human political language.

Dante stepped closer to Arav. "You're not taking him alone."

"You don't get a vote," Halden said smoothly.

Arav raised his hand slightly, stopping Dante.

If he resisted openly now, they would escalate.

Better to move inside the cage and break it from within.

"Fine," Arav said calmly. "Contain me."

Halden's eyes flickered with something.

Interest.

The containment facility wasn't a prison.

It was underground.

Reinforced.

Anti-mana dampeners installed in every wall.

Arav felt the suppression field immediately.

Chrono Mark dimmed but didn't disappear.

Interesting.

It was stronger than standard mana.

Major Voss walked beside him as they descended.

"You could've run."

"Wouldn't change the Tower's behavior," Arav replied.

She studied him briefly.

"You're not afraid."

"Should I be?"

"Most people would be."

He didn't answer.

Inside the central chamber, metal doors sealed shut behind him.

A single observation window faced the room.

Halden stood behind the glass.

Watching.

The suppression field intensified.

System notification:

[External Suppression Field Detected]

[Chrono Mark Efficiency Reduced: 27%]

So it was targeting system abilities specifically.

Not general awakeners.

More confirmation.

Halden entered the room alone.

No guards.

Brave.

Or arrogant.

"Let's skip theatrics," Halden said. "You're a deviation."

Arav didn't react.

"You've caused two correction attempts within six hours."

So he knows that word too.

"Correction attempts," Arav repeated.

"Yes."

"Correction from what?"

Halden stepped closer.

"From instability."

His silver-tinted eyes sharpened.

"You weren't supposed to survive Floor 97."

Arav's heart skipped once.

Then stabilized.

He kept his face neutral.

"You're mistaken."

Halden tilted his head.

"You're not the first regression anomaly."

The room felt colder.

Not philosophy.

Not dramatic revelation.

Just data.

Arav spoke evenly. "How many?"

Halden smiled faintly.

"Enough."

System glitch.

[Unauthorized Data Leak Attempt Blocked]

So the system was aware of this conversation.

And limiting exposure.

Interesting.

Halden circled him slowly.

"Tell me something, Arav."

He stopped directly in front.

"Do you remember how many times you've died?"

The question hit harder than any attack so far.

Arav didn't blink.

"I died once."

Halden's smile faded slightly.

"No."

His voice dropped lower.

"You died more."

The suppression field flickered briefly.

Chrono Mark pulsed once.

System alert:

[Memory Barrier Detected]

Barrier.

That meant—

Locked data.

Halden leaned closer.

"You think this is your first reset."

Silence.

"You think you're changing the timeline."

A pause.

"But what if you're repeating it?"

The lights in the chamber flickered suddenly.

Major Voss' voice crackled through intercom. "Power fluctuation detected."

Halden didn't move.

He whispered softly.

"The Tower isn't correcting the world."

His eyes glowed slightly brighter.

"It's correcting you."

Suddenly—

The entire facility shook violently.

Alarms blared.

Voss' voice shouted through the intercom. "Unauthorized breach detected on Level Three!"

Halden's expression didn't change.

But Arav saw it.

A micro-shift.

Not surprise.

Expectation.

The breach wasn't random.

It was planned.

The suppression field dropped momentarily as emergency power rerouted.

Chrono Mark surged back to full strength.

System alert exploded.

[Correction Attempt #3 Initiated]

[Deviation: 13.1%]

Too fast.

Way too fast.

Halden stepped back calmly.

"You should survive this one."

The wall behind him cracked.

Not from outside.

From inside the facility.

Metal twisted.

Concrete shattered.

And from the broken corridor—

The masked Executor stepped through again.

Same armor.

Same presence.

But stronger.

Its aura distorted the air.

Halden calmly stepped aside.

He wasn't a hostage.

He was bait.

The Executor ignored him completely.

Focused solely on Arav.

"Regression anomaly."

The suppression field failed entirely.

Chrono Mark ignited.

Arav didn't wait.

He activated dilation immediately.

Three seconds.

He rushed the Executor head-on.

This time—

He aimed for the shoulder joint first.

Testing reaction speed.

The Executor blocked instantly.

Faster than before.

Time resumed.

The Executor grabbed his wrist and twisted.

Bone cracked.

Arav rolled with the motion to reduce damage.

He slammed his foot into its knee joint.

It barely moved.

Major Voss burst into the chamber with armed guards.

They fired instantly.

Bullets disintegrated mid-air before touching the Executor.

Dante and Mira arrived seconds later.

Good.

The Executor extended its arm.

The room's gravity spiked.

Everyone except Arav dropped to their knees.

It was targeting him specifically.

"Containment failed," the Executor said flatly.

Arav activated Anchor Point.

Golden pulse expanded outward—

Stabilizing the room's structural integrity.

Not gravity.

But preventing collapse.

Smart.

The Executor advanced.

Arav used Chrono Mark again—

He circled behind—

And struck the lower spine seam.

This time—

The blade penetrated slightly deeper.

A faint crack appeared in the armor.

Progress.

Time resumed.

The Executor reacted faster than expected.

It spun and slammed him into the metal wall.

Steel dented inward.

[HP: 76% → 48%]

Pain surged.

But no hesitation.

Mira forced gravity sideways again.

Dante unleashed a compressed flame burst directly at the cracked armor seam.

The armor blackened.

The crack widened.

The Executor paused.

Then—

For the first time—

It adjusted stance.

Acknowledging threat.

Arav saw it.

Adaptation.

It was learning mid-fight.

Bad.

Very bad.

He couldn't let this extend.

He sprinted toward the damaged shoulder again—

Activated Chrono Mark—

And instead of striking—

He grabbed the cracked armor seam and pulled.

With everything he had.

Time resumed.

The seam tore partially open.

Inside—

Not flesh.

Not mechanical parts.

Pure swirling black authority.

The Executor grabbed his throat again.

Harder.

Stronger.

"Excessive deviation."

Its other hand formed execution blade again.

But this time—

Mira screamed and forced maximum gravity spike.

The floor cratered.

The Executor's stance shifted slightly.

Just enough.

Dante launched upward and drove a flame spear directly into the exposed seam.

Explosion.

The chamber detonated in fire and black energy.

Arav was thrown across the room again.

Smoke filled the chamber.

Silence.

Then—

Heavy metallic footsteps.

The Executor walked out of the smoke.

Damaged.

Cracked.

But not destroyed.

It raised its hand.

A new ability formed.

Not gravity.

Not blade.

Erasure.

The air in front of its palm vanished.

Reality distortion condensed into a sphere.

Arav felt it instinctively.

If that fired—

It wouldn't wound.

It would remove.

He activated Anchor Point again—

Even though system warned of overload.

Golden energy flared.

The distortion sphere slowed slightly.

Not enough.

He ran forward directly into its range.

"Arav, stop!" Dante shouted.

He ignored it.

He reached the Executor—

Grabbed the cracked armor—

And shoved his entire hand inside the exposed authority core.

Pain exploded through his arm.

His vision turned white.

System alarms screamed.

[Authority Conflict Critical]

He clenched his fist—

And pulled outward.

The Executor's body froze.

Its erasure sphere destabilized mid-formation.

Reality rippled violently.

The facility walls cracked.

Alarms deafening.

Arav roared and tore the core outward.

Half.

Not full.

But enough.

The Executor convulsed.

Its body fractured into shards of black light—

And imploded.

Silence fell.

The suppression field died completely.

Smoke filled the chamber.

Major Voss stared at the empty space where the Executor stood.

Halden was gone.

Escaped during the chaos.

Of course.

Arav collapsed to one knee.

His arm burned.

Skin partially charred.

System stabilized slowly.

[Correction Attempt Failed]

[Deviation: 15.8%]

Huge jump.

Too huge.

Dante grabbed his shoulder. "You're insane."

Mira stared at his arm.

The black mark had changed again.

Now—

A second eye shape formed beside the first crack.

Dual marking.

System message appeared quietly.

[Observer Tier Increased]

[Next Escalation: Scheduled]

No time.

No location.

Just inevitability.

Major Voss approached slowly.

"Director Halden is missing."

"Not missing," Arav replied quietly.

"He was never on your side."

She didn't argue.

Because she saw it too.

Dante looked between them. "What the hell is happening?"

Arav looked toward the distant Tower again.

Now—

Five silhouettes stood at the peak.

Watching.

Evaluating.

Counting.

He exhaled slowly.

"They're done testing."

Mira's voice was steady. "So what now?"

Arav's eyes sharpened.

"Now we grow faster than they escalate."

System flickered once more.

A new quest appeared.

[Emergency Dungeon Access Unlocked]

[Location: Underground Ruins – City Perimeter]

[Objective: Accelerated Growth]

Good.

Very good.

Because if deviation was already at 15%—

Then next correction wouldn't be an Executor.

It would be something worse.

And he needed to be stronger before it arrived.

The Tower pulsed again.

And one of the silhouettes—

Moved.
