Chapter 17 - 017. Scum!

"Bastards! Are those sentries dead?"

Dalami roared at the surrounding soldiers, but his men were all jumpy, like birds startled by a twang of a bow.

The sudden explosion just now had instantly killed or wounded over thirty people, and a dozen more were currently lying on the ground groaning miserably.

Dalami stared deathly at the ruins where the grenades had been thrown from, his eyes becoming exceptionally ferocious. He pointed in that direction and roared:

"Cover that area with fire!"

A few seconds later, sparse gunfire and artillery sounded. Bang! Bang! Boom! The explosions quickly razed the ruins to the ground.

At this moment, a soldier ran over from where they had been firing and said hurriedly:

"My Lord, we saw only one person there just now. Should we pursue?"

Dalami's eye twitched. He turned to look at the soldier, his eyes under the protective mask already bloodshot. "Pursue? You go?"

Dalami's voice was unkind as he pointed to the burning buildings ahead.

The soldier was instantly speechless.

Merlin didn't know the situation behind him; he had already run to the roof of another house.

He looked calmly at the highly alert crowd three hundred meters away.

"Didn't die?" Merlin didn't feel it was a pity. Whether the man lived or died didn't matter.

However, Merlin didn't approach them again this time.

Time passed minute by minute.

The sky darkened completely. The moonlight tonight was hazy, obscured by clouds.

But for Merlin, he could see even more clearly than during the day.

The soldiers here didn't retreat; they continued to set fires and push into the city.

Seeing this, Merlin thought for a moment, then rushed towards the other three directions where fires were burning on the outskirts. It didn't take much time to find the other three groups of foreign soldiers.

He treated them to a round of grenades as well.

And they didn't pursue either.

Afterward, he went to find Yol and Lami.

He took six grenades from Yol and told them to wait for him at the city center fountain.

And at this moment,

Merlin returned to Dalami's side, watching them preparing to rest around a two-story house three hundred meters away that hadn't been touched by fire.

"It seems they plan to camp here tonight. Is that so-called Lord Dalami inside the house?"

Merlin took out his pocket watch and checked the time. It was 8:00 PM.

"Another round."

His nose twitched, searching for suitable bombing spots around the clearing and observing where the sentries were located.

Soon, a four-story building about eighty meters to the left of the house was selected by Merlin, because it was directly in front of the two-story house.

Merlin left this roof and ran over there. With light steps, he quickly arrived at the ruins next to the building.

Distinguishing the different scents in the surrounding air, Merlin quickly determined that there were ten people inside this building.

Thought appeared in his eyes.

Go or not?

Since he was already here.

His gaze became firm. In the dim environment, he lightened his steps and quickly went to the back of the building. Pressing close to a window on the first floor, he could hear some faint conversation from inside.

Merlin looked up at the outer wall, a cold sneer appearing at the corner of his mouth. There were protruding window sills every three meters or so up the wall.

Without hesitation, Merlin jumped up and grabbed the window sill. Moving very lightly, he climbed upwards, shifting from sill to sill, and soon reached just under the roof eaves.

Reaching out to grab the outer edge of the eaves, he pulled himself up effortlessly with a pull-up.

Merlin stood on the pitched roof, moving his figure. A moment later, his eyes looked towards the house not far away.

He counted the remaining eighteen grenades on his body, then looked at the soldiers gathered in six or seven groups outside the house.

Calmly, he took six grenades from his bag and lined them up neatly in front of him.

taking a deep breath, he gripped a grenade in each hand, bit the pins, and pulled them out.

His gaze focused instantly. He threw the two grenades, then quickly threw the remaining four in succession.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!!!

Deafening grenade explosions suddenly rang out under the night sky.

Shattering the silence abruptly.

Merlin quickly jumped down from the roof, landing with a thud! He rolled on the ground to absorb the impact, then immediately sprinted towards another ruin.

Because it was night, by the time the sentries inside the building noticed the commotion, Merlin had already vanished from the area.

A moment later,

The soldiers evacuated from the house and moved to a wide ruin where there were no buildings around for cover.

Dalami's body trembled with rage:

"No mistake, it must be that bastard again. Does he think I'm made of clay and easy to bully?"

Merlin lay on a ruin two hundred meters away, staring quietly at this troop, now reduced to two hundred men.

Thinking about the twelve grenades left on him, he slowly crawled towards them.

Even though they were extremely vigilant and lit bonfires around the temporary camp for illumination, Merlin still approached them slowly.

Before long, he reached a spot a hundred meters from their outermost perimeter.

He placed four grenades on the ground, pulled the pins of two, and threw them fiercely into the densest part of the crowd.

Then he threw two more.

BOOM! BOOM-BOOM!!!

Instantly, several explosions appeared in the camp again, and the shrill screams of those caught in the blast echoed once more.

At the same time, a thick atmosphere of panic appeared in the crowd.

After throwing two rounds, Merlin quickly shifted his position and soon appeared in another spot. However, at this time, Merlin discovered that they had started to retreat and were moving towards the outside of the city.

Seeing this, a guess instantly formed in Merlin's mind:

"Has morale collapsed?"

Seeing this, Merlin quickly got up and chased after them from another route.

Since he had basically guessed their route, Merlin sprinted and soon circled around to get ahead of them.

He lay down on top of a four-story building in the direction approaching the port.

Sure enough, not long after, the routed army hurried over.

Merlin scanned the crowd and found the guy with the sword at his waist within a few seconds.

He placed his last eight grenades in front of him, holding two in his hands. When they were within a hundred meters, Merlin bit the pins, pulled them out violently, and threw the grenades.

And quickly threw the next four together. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!!

Clusters of explosive fire burst from the crowd, mingled with secondary explosions from grenades carried by soldiers.

Holding the last two in his hands, Merlin looked down at the troop, whose formation had been completely scattered by the explosions.

Then, he threw another grenade at the soldier with the sword who had fallen to the ground.

BOOM!!

A fireball engulfed him, blowing his entire body away.

Merlin watched unblinkingly as his right leg was blown off, then quietly withdrew.

The troops below, their morale completely shattered by this explosion, all scattered in panic and fled towards the port.

Meanwhile, Dalami lay on the ground, blood spilling from his nose and mouth, his chest rising and falling weakly.

Not long after, watching the panicking troops rush out of the distant barrier, Merlin quietly appeared on the street covered with corpses.

He delivered the final blow to the soldiers who hadn't died yet, and finally came up behind the soldier with the sword at his waist, whose leg was blown off and who had crawled more than ten meters forward.

He kicked him over, then stepped on his chest with his right foot. Bending down, he ripped off the mask. Underneath was a young man with blond hair and a hooked nose.

His bloodshot eyes were filled with fear as he trembled:

"Spare me..."

Thud! Merlin punched him in the mouth. Crack! Teeth were smashed into his mouth.

Watching him whimper and groan, Merlin said calmly:

"You won't live."

At this moment, Dalami's eyes became incredibly fearful. Merlin said flatly:

"Two choices. One, I won't kill you, but I'll cut off your limbs and infect you with a potent strain of Amber Lead Syndrome. Two, tell me who your leader is, and I'll give you a quick... Choose!"

At this moment, realizing the fate he was about to face, the fear in Dalami's eyes was so thick it seemed about to overflow. He trembled:

"It's Lakade..."

Duke Lakade, the Legion Commander of the Volgala Kingdom and the King's younger brother.

A moment later...

Squelch!

The dagger slit his throat.

A spray of blood splashed out.

A weak gurgling sound of leaking air emerged.

Merlin's gaze was calm. He looked at the simple rapier at Dalami's waist.

He reached out and took the rapier, and also found a total of thirty grenades from the surrounding bodies.

Then,

Merlin left quickly.

Not long after, another troop rushed over from the barrier. The leader saw Dalami with his throat slit.

His eye twitching, he roared in low anger: "Scum! A bunch of scum! And you, Dalami, you trash."
