Chapter 102 - Chapter 101: Blessing

Chapter 101: Blessing

Tyrosh, the Purple Palace, Throne Room

In the luxurious Throne Room of the Purple Palace, a massive round table stood quietly at the very center beneath the great dome.

Since such a table had never existed in this world, this enormous round table was actually pieced together from five large square tables.

This place had once been the heart of Tyrosh's governance—a stage where power and intrigue intertwined. But now, all of that authority belonged to Jon.

As the early morning sunlight filtered through the mirrored dome above, warm rays bathed everyone seated around the table.

Among them, Jon, seated upon the jeweled throne, possessed the most commanding presence. The magnificent seat behind him had once belonged to the Archon of Tyrosh, studded with countless gems that glittered brilliantly under the light.

Jon wore a deep purple Tyroshi noble robe, embroidered with intertwining sigils of the direwolf of House Stark and the three-headed dragon of House Targaryen, all woven in golden thread, lending him an air of regal authority.

Upon his head rested a finely crafted silver circlet, set with red and pale gems that echoed the colors of his combined heraldry.

After countless struggles, Jon's face had gained a hardened edge. The last traces of youthful impulsiveness had faded, replaced by calm resolve. His eyes were like still waters—deep and unreadable.

Seated closest to him at the round table were his most trusted followers: Ferro, Samwell, Pippin, Merrick, and Ser Barristan Selmy, forming the core of his Kingsguard.

Ser Barristan intended to leave two seats vacant for future knights of the Seven Kingdoms. Though he continued to train Ferro and the others, the old knight still hoped that more highborn warriors would one day stand beside Jon.

Unlike the Small Council of the Iron Throne, Jon introduced his own system after taking Tyrosh.

He established a Round Table Council.

In addition to the traditional seven seats, each position was divided into three roles—decision-making, supervision, and enforcement—to prevent any single individual from monopolizing power.

Take the Iron Throne's financial chaos as an example: aside from Petyr Baelish, it was doubtful anyone could accurately account for the Crown's debts—let alone determine how much had been embezzled.

By separating authority into three branches, each official could oversee the others, ensuring better execution of Jon's will.

Beyond the Kingsguard, Garo and Kapo were appointed as Decision Officer and Enforcement Officer within the war council. Narses became Master of Whisperers, while Salladhor Saan and Blackfox Lena were appointed among the overseers of trade.

The former slave Sanen was elevated directly to a Round Table advisor. Mia Moses, along with Governor Tansen Domerang, were also granted advisory roles for political stability.

Tyrosh's problems could not be solved through slaughter alone.

Among the Nine Free Cities, though Tyrosh was not the strongest, its combined influence remained formidable—comparable even to Braavos.

Thus, Jon faced two pressing challenges: how to settle the freed slaves, and how to manage the Tyroshi populace.

Daenerys Targaryen had faced similar struggles in Meereen—trying to appease both masters and freedmen, only to satisfy neither.

"My proposal is simple," Jon began. "All property belonging to deceased slave masters will be seized by the Round Table Council. Freemen will then be hired to manage production and agriculture."

As he spoke, a graceful figure moved beside him, distributing documents to each council member.

Sarene, a former bedslave from Lys, had once been gifted to a pirate captain by Salladhor Saan. After Jon's rise, she joined the Chainbreakers.

Following the establishment of the medical corps, this silver-haired, violet-eyed woman steadily rose through the ranks.

During the siege, her performance had been exceptional, earning her the position of Jon's personal secretary.

"What are your thoughts?"

After everyone finished reviewing the documents, Jon posed the question.

"You are merciful to the slaves, Your Grace," said Tansen Domerang. "Yet I must speak plainly. If oxen are not driven hard enough, they grow soft—and then they cannot work."

"What do you mean by that, Domerang?!"

Sanen exploded immediately.

"It is precisely because of His Grace's mercy that you still stand here! Would you prefer to hang from the outer walls?"

Old wounds surged back into his heart.

From the moment Jon declared them free men, Tyrosh's entire labor system had collapsed. As one of the Nine Free Cities, its economy relied heavily on slave labor.

Now, everything had stalled.

But Jon had offered something new—a fair system where labor could be exchanged for coin and sustenance.

To hear it insulted so casually was intolerable.

"Enough."

Mia Moses spoke sharply, cutting through the tension.

"His Grace seeks counsel—not childish quarrels."

Once the daughter of the Archon, Mia carried natural authority. Even now, her reputation among both freedmen and former nobles remained strong.

Under her gaze, both men fell silent and offered apologies.

"These grudges will not vanish overnight," Jon said calmly. "But now that you serve the Chainbreakers, you will act for our shared future—not your past."

He had no intention of reconciling them completely.

In truth, he intended the opposite.

Division made control easier.

After all, with enough incentive, even blood ties could be turned against one another.

"Your Grace," Mia said with a faint smile, "your proposal is admirable. Under your rule, Tyrosh will surely prosper."

Raised in politics, she understood far more than she revealed.

Jon's system resembled the "free labor" system of Pentos, adopted after its defeat by Braavos.

Though Pentos claimed such workers were free, in truth, they remained little more than slaves in another form.

Jon's version was more refined—better disguised, and more acceptable to those not blinded by greed.

"Any further objections?" Jon asked.

Silence answered him.

"Then we proceed. Adjustments will be made as necessary."

Tyrosh could not afford stagnation.

Though the wealth seized from slave masters sustained the city for now, it would not last forever.

The people needed to produce.

Only then could Jon build the strength needed to conquer all who opposed him.

"Good. Next—military restructuring."

Jon turned his gaze.

"Garo, report on our current forces and equipment."
