The North, the Wall, near the Haunted Forest
On the vast ice plains beyond the Wall, an earth-shaking battle was underway.
Jon held the ancestral Valyrian steel sword Blackfyre, looking at the Night King standing before him. His gaze was firm and resolute, showing no fear toward this legendary god of death.
Although this fellow died quite abruptly in the grand finale, Jon did not believe he could kill his opponent simply by using a feint.
Jon knew very well that the enemy he faced was the mysterious and powerful Night King, the most terrifying weapon created by the Children of the Forest.
This Night King looked much like the image from that botched television series. He wore a suit of black armor and held an ice spear; his glowing blue eyes were like cold stars, revealing endless indifference and deathly stillness.
As the two sides approached, a heavy and tense atmosphere filled the air.
Sshing…
Seeing that his opponent made no move, Jon took the initiative to attack. His swordsmanship was swift and precise, each swing carrying the sound of breaking air, as if it would cut the very atmosphere apart.
Since he hadn't learned those exquisite sword techniques from the Blue Star, most of what Jon had learned were the knightly sword arts of this world. Combined with his terrifying strength and speed, Jon believed he should have the ability to go toe-to-toe with this guy.
However, the Night King showed no panic in the face of Jon's attack. He dodged Jon's strikes with incredible speed and would counterattack with his ice spear whenever the opportunity arose, each strike carrying a cold aura of death.
If the Night King's ice spear were to clash with an ordinary iron weapon, it would quickly shatter the opponent's weapon and kill them.
Fortunately, the Night King was facing Jon, who possessed Blackfyre. The superior properties of the Valyrian steel sword could effectively resist the strikes of the ice spear.
However, while fighting this Olympic javelin champion of a Night King, Jon still felt the opponent's strength. This fellow was likely a master of martial arts during his lifetime.
After all, a being that could be captured and sacrificed by the Children of the Forest couldn't have been weak. Although the First Men were defeated by the Andals, they had effectively resisted the Andal invasion in the early stages of the war.
Bang bang bang…
Clang clang clang…
The battle intensified. Their figures moved rapidly across the ice plain, the collision of sword and spear producing a series of crisp metallic symphonies.
After an unknown amount of time fighting, beads of sweat began to seep from Jon's forehead. This situation gave him unprecedented pressure.
Jon truly couldn't understand how his extraordinary attributes could still show signs of faltering before this guy.
"Ha!"
Sensing a flaw in his opponent, Jon let out a great shout, gathered all his strength, and thrust his sword toward the Night King's chest.
Unexpectedly, even while lunging forward, the Night King dodged Jon's attack with a flash and countered with a backhanded spear thrust toward Jon.
In that critical moment, relying on his combat instincts and powerful physical fitness, Jon violently twisted his body to dodge the Night King's strike.
The tip of the Night King's ice spear grazed past, slicing through Jon's shoulder armor and leaving a trail of ice shards.
After several exchanges, neither side could break through the other's defense. However, as time passed, Jon, being human, began to show signs of physical exhaustion.
Meanwhile, the Night King, this terrifying creature, was like a robot that never grew tired.
But during the constant fighting, Jon discovered some secrets about this fellow.
During the battle, wisps of eerie blue energy would emerge from the ground and slowly merge into his body.
The opponent also seemed to have grown weary of this endless combat. The Night King quickly pulled back and threw a punch directly at Jon's position.
Boom…
The Night King's punch was incredibly powerful, quickly cracking the ground. The eerie blue energy on his body scattered with the punch.
Rumble… Crack…
Immediately after, countless ice pillars erupted from the ground. They seemed to possess a consciousness of their own, all surging toward Jon's location.
Faced with such a terrifying attack, Jon could only retreat while continuously swinging Blackfyre to counter.
Roar roar roar…
Boom boom…
While Jon was retreating, the Night King raised the ice spear in his hand, seemingly preparing to let Jon test his spear throwing.
However, very quickly, three streams of dragonfire descended from the sky. The largest stream was aimed directly at the Night King's position.
It turned out that at some point, Daenerys had arrived on the battlefield riding Drogon. Seeing the Night King tied down by Jon, Daenerys naturally unleashed this move against him.
Boom…
Just as Daenerys thought the fellow had been hit, a blue halo appeared beneath the rolling dragonfire.
Reflected by the flames, the Night King's body seemed even bluer, looking like a glowing blue elf.
Upon seeing Daenerys and her three dragons, the Night King seemed to have found a new target, and he raised his javelin once more.
"Ha!"
Since the Night King's casting had been interrupted, Jon quickly broke through the obstruction of the ice pillars and delivered a leaping strike toward the Night King.
Clang…
When the Valyrian steel sword and the ice spear collided, an invisible wave of energy erupted, blowing away the snow around Jon and the Night King.
It was precisely the sudden appearance of Jon's strike that prevented the Night King's attack from succeeding, and Jon quickly entangled the Night King again.
Seeing that the dragonfire attack was ineffective, Daenerys drove Drogon and the other two toward the wights attacking the camp.
With the help of dragonfire, the vast swarm of wights from moments ago was quickly annihilated.
"Quick, quick, quick… bring out the oil barrels!"
Following Samwell Tarly's command, the Night's Watch soldiers on the Wall quickly adjusted the angles of the catapults and the weight of the oil barrels.
These catapults were specifically designed for the "Burning the Shadows" plan; their precision and weight had all been calculated in advance.
Thus, barrel after barrel of Fire Oil was launched from the top of the Wall. At the same time, the soldiers in the passages of the Wall pulled out a large amount of Fire Oil.
"Quick, quick, move faster!"
Under the protection of the Unsullied, barrels of Fire Oil were thrown into the Haunted Forest. With Daenerys's protection, the soldiers' work proceeded very smoothly.
"Retreat! Ignite!"
After more than thirty minutes, the peripheral deployment was basically complete. After signaling Daenerys in the sky, Grey Worm led his soldiers back toward the camp.
"Dracarys!"
At Daenerys's command, three streams of dragonfire quickly began to burn along the perimeter of the Haunted Forest.
Aided by the Fire Oil, the flames in many places even leaped several meters high.
The raging fire was like a furious beast, swallowing all obstacles in its path. Although the Haunted Forest was currently a world of ice and snow, the high-temperature dragonfire still ignited the sentinel trees.
The scorching flames ravaged the Haunted Forest, turning sentinel trees and shrubs to ash. For some reason, with the addition of dragonfire, the speed at which the flames spread was shocking, as if some power were driving them.
The blazing fire illuminated the entire night sky, dispelling the darkness and significantly weakening the ongoing blizzard.
The firelight reflected on Daenerys's face, her eyes flashing with curiosity. She also didn't quite understand why Jon wanted to destroy this forest.
As the fire spread, certain terrifying creatures in the Haunted Forest seemed to be awakened by this power, and they rushed out of the forest wailing.
Seeing those burning wights, Daenerys finally understood why Jon wanted her to burn this place.
In the firelight, the blue-glowing eyes in the forest were like fireflies in the dark night. They gathered together densely, making Daenerys's hair stand on end.
Thus, she quickly commanded her dragons again to spit out more dragonfire, pushing the flames further away.
When there wasn't enough fuel, Daenerys would command Drogon and the others to fetch oil barrels from the top of the Wall. These barrels, tied together like baskets, could be easily picked up by the dragons.
Crack crack…
At that moment, the Night King, who had been clashing with Jon, seemed to sense something and roared directly at Jon.
It was an expression and action that had never appeared on him before. The reason Jon said he was roaring was entirely because the sound he made was like ice blocks colliding.
That bone-chilling killing intent made Jon involuntarily shiver, as if attacked by a cold wind.
Just as Jon was preparing to give him another "Sweep of a Thousand Armies," the Night King suddenly looked at Jon with piercing eyes. After Jon's gaze met his, a soul-piercing chill shot directly into Jon's soul.
Crack…
With the appearance of this power, the space around Jon shattered, and he immediately felt a terrifying pulling force.
