By the time Kazane turned one, she stopped being so fragile. Her chakra didn't diminish in the slightest, however. Instead, her body was becoming stronger, slowly adapting to her condition.
Tsunade confirmed it during a longer diagnostic session shortly after her birthday.
Minato was busy refining some of the sealing arrays in the room.
Kazane sat upright on the floor without support, small hands planted on the tatami as if grounding herself instinctively.
Kushina was nearby, hovering like the protective mother she was.
When Tsunade sent a deeper pulse through her coils, the feedback came back dense.
Layered.
Structured.
Not the thin, scattered network of a child.
Tsunade's brows drew together.
Kushina noticed, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Tsunade explained clinically. "Her cellular regeneration rate is slightly elevated," she said, tapping the scroll. "Not at Uzumaki extremes. But higher than average. It's compensating for internal strain."
Kushina leaned over her shoulder. "So she won't burn herself out?"
"She might," Tsunade replied bluntly. "If she loses control repeatedly."
Minato looked up from the seal array he was refining. "Then we make sure she doesn't."
Tsunade's gaze lingered on him.
"You can't be there for every emotional shock she'll experience," she said quietly.
The room fell silent.
"If nothing's wrong," said Kushina, breaking the silence, "why did you frown?"
Tsunade did not answer immediately.
---
"Her chakra..." Tsunade said carefully, "I would say her reserves are already at a Chunin level."
Silence.
Kushina looked confused.
Minato did not look surprised.
"And by the time she's 6?" he asked.
Tsunade's gaze lifted to meet his.
"If this growth curve continues unchecked?" She exhaled slowly. "Jonin reserves... Minimum."
"What does that mean?" Asked Kushina, still not quite understanding the problem.
"It means dear," began Minato, as he pulled her into a warm embrace. "Our daughter is going to attract a lot of attention when she joins the academy."
It took a moment, but soon her eyes grew wide with alarm, "You don't mean-"
Her next words went unsaid, but were heard nonetheless.
My child will be targeted like me!
Kazane clapped her hands together at the sound of her parents' voices, delighted by the noise.
The seals beneath the floor flickered again.
But did not strain.
---
They adjusted the training over time.
Tsunade incorporated micro-load resistance through controlled depletion. Allowing Kazane's coils to empty in measured intervals before refilling naturally. A type of controlled rapid conditioning of the girls' chakra network.
Minato began introducing spatial awareness games; she would play with Shizune. Placing marked tags around a room and encouraging Kazane to use her sensory talents to find them with her eyes closed.
Shizune wasn't particularly good at the game as expected, what with her not being a sensor, and all, but Kazane enjoyed her company.
Kushina adjusted the emotional coping techniques she was taught for being a Jinchuriki. Teaching her daughter to separate feelings from her chakra. To let emotion exist without allowing it to command output.
Hard lessons.
For a child barely able to form full sentences.
But Kazane learned.
Not perfectly.
Not without tears.
But she learned.
When frustration built behind her eyes and her small fists clenched, Kushina would kneel in front of her, pressing their foreheads together.
"Feel it," she would whisper. "Don't push it away. Just don't feed it."
Kazane would sniffle.
Her chakra would swell, then hesitate, then settle.
Not gone. Just calm
Tsunade observed these sessions often without comment.
As months passed, Shizune had become a near-constant presence whenever Tsunade visited.
The living room floor was currently scattered with marked paper tags.
Each carried a seal formula, tuned to emit a faint chakra signature.
Shizune knelt across from Kazane, holding one tag behind her back with exaggerated secrecy.
"Ready?" she asked gently.
Kazane squeezed her eyes shut on command, tiny hands planted firmly on her knees.
"'Ready," she declared solemnly.
Shizune threw the tag, hiding it behind a small side unit near one of the walls. Then she walked in a different direction, attempting to confuse Kazane's senses.
"Okay. Find it."
Kazane tilted her head slightly. Brows furrowing.
Shizune always thought it was adorable how she did that.
"Over Dere," she said, pointing confidently toward the wrong corner.
"Eh? That's not—"
Kazane's finger twitched midair.
She frowned harder.
"…No. Dere."
Her arm swung sharply toward where the tag was hidden.
Shizune's eyes widened, a smile on her face. "That's right!" She shouted.
Kazane's eyes flew open triumphantly.
"Win! Win!" she announced, clapping her hands. Shizune laughed.
Across the room, Tsunade pretended not to smile as she recorded notes onto a scroll.
"Her directional sensitivity is improving," she muttered. "Minimal bleeding effect this time, too."
Jiraiya adjusted a seal along the wall, glancing over with quiet amusement.
It was just the two Sannin and Shizune present to watch over Kazane today.
Kushina, on what is a rare occasion, since Kazane's birth wasn't at home. Instead, she was out visiting her friend Mikoto Uchiha and her child, Itachi.
Minato was gone as well. Rumour was, he would be getting a student of his own soon, and he was out dealing with the trouble that came with it.
Kazane scrambled to her feet, still slightly unsteady, but far stronger than she had any right to be and ran straight into Shizune's lap.
"'Again!" she demanded.
Shizune laughed as she steadied her. "Again? You're not tired?"
Kazane puffed her cheeks.
"'Me strong."
The words were baby-slurred, but the conviction behind them was not.
Later that afternoon, with Minato returning, the rules changed.
Instead of passive sensing, Minato introduced motion.
Shizune was instructed to walk slowly around the room while holding a marked tag.
Kazane stood in the centre with her eyes closed.
"Follow," Minato instructed softly.
Shizune moved quietly, trying her best to mask her steps.
Kazane swayed once. Twice.
Then her feet began to shuffle in tiny, deliberate steps.
She turned when Shizune turned.
Paused when she paused.
Adjusted when the tag changed hands.
Tracing Shizune's movement like a shadow.
The game was made harder by all the furniture present in the room, but that never stopped Kazane.
When Shizune abruptly switched direction, Kazane wobbled, then corrected instantly.
"Gotcha!" Shizune laughed as Kazane bumped gently into her legs.
Kazane wrapped both arms around her knee in a victorious hug.
"Found you, Shizu!"
The seals beneath the floor gave a faint flicker.
Tsunade closed her scroll, preparing to leave.
"She's improving her sensor abilities faster than expected," she said. "That level of spatial mapping usually develops years later."
Minato nodded thoughtfully.
Kazane looked up at Shizune with bright blue eyes.
"Shizu stay?"
The question was simple.
Hopeful.
Shizune glanced instinctively at Tsunade.
Tsunade glanced at Kazane's hopeful expression.
"…For a while," she said. "Can you make your own way back?"
"Yes, Lady Tsunade."
Kazane beamed.
"Yay!"
Her chakra fluttered in a warm, even wave like sunlight rippling across water.
Shizune hugged her gently.
"You're getting really good at this," she whispered.
Kazane leaned back, squinting thoughtfully.
"'Me gonna be big ninja."
Minato chuckled softly.
Tsunade smiled, though there was something tight behind it.
