Chapter 131 - Sinkholes

On my way back to resupply, sinkholes began appearing.

The first one nearly got me. I was running at Quickstep speed somewhere around 0,3 when the ground ahead simply wasn't there anymore, a circular collapse maybe two meters across with edges still crumbling inward. I stopped hard enough that my boots scraped into the dirt and stood at the rim looking down into darkness.

Damn, that was close…

I had been pulling dense compressed rock from underground for days, dozens of pillars, each one leaving a void where solid material used to be. The terrain above those voids had apparently been holding together by stubbornness alone, but that wasn't enough anymore.

But there was no other option. I needed the beacons and there was no other way I could make them. I was going to have to watch where I stepped.

I walked around the sinkhole and kept moving north.
