The moment we heard the news, we waited for the closing bell. The seconds dragged. My leg kept bouncing under the desk. Malo kept checking his phone like it might suddenly explode with answers.
When the bell finally rang, we didn't even pretend to walk normally.
We ran. Straight out of the building, across the field, past the parking lot. My lungs burned but I didn't stop. Malo was right behind me, breathing hard.
We reached the edge of the woods and slowed down. The cemetery was ahead.
Sirens had already faded, but the flashing lights were still there.
We hid behind the woods to check. There were a few GPF officers around.
Yellow tape stretched across the entrance. Two officers stood near the path. Another one was writing something down on a small notepad.
My stomach twisted.
"Do you think it's Peamah's?" I asked Malo, who was behind me.
He leaned slightly to the side, trying to get a better look without stepping out.
"I don't know. They did not specify whose body it was."
