The dawn that broke over the Winter Suite was not the aggressive, gold-leafed spectacle of the Master Suite. There was no grand unveiling of the sun, no blinding light reflecting off obsidian mirrors to remind me of my gilded cage. Instead, the morning arrived in a filtered, silver haze, muted by a thick layer of frost that had crystallized against the windowpanes like delicate, frozen lace. It was a quiet light, one that didn't demand to be seen, but rather stood respectfully in the corners of the room.
