He was navigating toward the drinks table for a second time when Kai'sa appeared.
He recognized her before she reached him. The seafoam green of her hair caught the golden light from three different directions at once. Her water-like robes rippled and flowed with every step, catching reflections like sunlight on shallow waves. People unconsciously made space for her without seeming to notice.
She stopped directly in front of him with a smile that had several layers and made no effort to hide any of them.
"Leo." The way she said it carried that same musical quality as her laugh. "You placed second."
"...I did."
"Against Odessa." She tilted her head, her seafoam hair shifting in the light. Up close, her ocean-blue eyes had real depth, lighter at the center and darkening toward the edges. Her robes moved in soft waves around her hips and waist. "I watched your semi-final. The weight manipulation when the mage reached for his staff. That was creative."
"Thank you," Leo said.
