Chapter 17 - A Gift Worth Ten Million

Jessica Harper's great figure was not natural, but rather the result of her careful diet.

Every time Jeff ate with Jessica, he noticed she loved rich, nutritious foods like sweet date and lotus seed soup.

Jeff glanced at Jessica's near-perfect figure and said, "You probably don't need to eat that soup anymore, right?"

Jessica was instantly furious. She got up from her seat, walked to Jeff, and stood almost touching him.

When Jeff looked up, he felt as if he were gazing up at a mountain peak...

Jessica angrily said, "Jeff, what did you mean by that just now? Why don't I need to eat that soup anymore?"

Jeff was Jessica's brother-in-law, so he could not speak too plainly.

Jeff said, "Never mind, forget I said anything. I'll bring this soup over to you. You can drink it by yourself."

However, even after Jeff offered to give her the soup, Jessica's anger did not subside.

She went to Old Madam Harper's table and complained:

"Grandma, don't let Jeff eat here. He didn't even prepare a gift. Why should he eat at your birthday banquet?"

"For the past three years, my uncle and aunt have been trying to divorce Jeff. If it weren't for you protecting him, Grandma, how could he have freeloaded in our family for three years?"

"What an ingrate! Although we've treated him badly, at least we've made sure he lives in a mansion and drives a luxury car. But today is your eightieth birthday, and he hasn't even prepared a gift."

Although Jessica's words were directed at Jeff, they were not entirely without merit.

Jeff's training as a live-in son-in-law lasted three years. If he failed to complete the training within that time, it would be considered a failure, and his grandfather would impose punishment.

If it weren't for Old Madam Harper's insistence on not letting Jeff rest for three years, Jeff's mission would have failed long ago.

In addition, Jeff had lived and worked at the Harper family for three years, and today was his official departure from the family. It also happened to be the old lady's eightieth birthday, so it was indeed appropriate to give her a gift.

Jeff thought for a moment, then picked up his phone and called Butler Vance again:

"Hey, prepare a birthday gift for me and send it to The Pinnacle Hotel."

Upon hearing this, Jessica scoffed. "Tch, have you finally had a change of heart? But our Harper family won't accept trash you sent!"

Brandon also said, "Jeff, stop embarrassing yourself. Don't bring all sorts of junk to the birthday banquet. Look at the gifts everyone gave—which one was worth less than 200,000 dollars?"

Emily didn't want Jeff to lose face. After all, they weren't officially divorced yet, and he was embarrassing Emily's whole family.

Emily said, "Call and cancel your gift. If you insist on giving Grandma something, I'll have someone prepare one for you."

Jeff continued eating, ignoring the three of them.

He did not ask Butler Vance on the phone to prepare an expensive gift.

But he knew that the Sterling family never gave cheap gifts!

Only ten minutes had passed.

A delivery driver suddenly appeared at the hotel lobby entrance.

The hotel staff immediately stopped him. "Excuse me, today is the Harper family's birthday banquet. No one is allowed to enter."

The delivery driver said, "Oh, I'm here to deliver a congratulatory gift."

As he spoke, the delivery driver took out an exquisite box that looked quite valuable.

So the waiter let him in.

The delivery driver walked inside and asked, "Excuse me, who's having a birthday celebration today?"

Brandon got angry whenever he saw someone in a delivery uniform. He stood up and angrily rebuked him:

"This is my grandmother's birthday banquet! Who let you in?!"

The delivery driver said, "Here's the thing. I just met a Rolls-Royce driver on Riverfront Drive. He might also be planning to come here, but the road is really congested right now, so he might not get here for a while."

"He gave me five hundred dollars and asked me to take this gift to The Pinnacle Hotel."

Upon hearing "Rolls-Royce owner," Brandon's attitude immediately changed.

"Oh, so it's a gift for my grandma. Give me the gift."

Upon receiving the gift box, Brandon curiously opened it and was immediately overjoyed.

Inside was a jade bracelet!

Old Madam Harper was also very curious. "Brandon, what gift is it?"

Brandon rushed over. "Grandma, look—it's a jade bracelet. It looks very expensive!"

When Old Madam Harper saw it, she excitedly took it in her hand and felt the texture and color. She was very excited!

"What exquisite icy jadeite! Gentlemen, is there anyone knowledgeable enough to help me estimate the value of this bracelet?"

At this moment, a middle-aged man who owned a jewelry store walked over.

"Grandma Harper, let me take a look."

As the man examined the jade, he said, "This is old mine glass-type jadeite. The color is pure, bright, and even. It's delicate and flawless. I don't think it will be cheap."

Emily's mouth watered as she looked at it, and she asked, "Could you tell me exactly how much it's worth?"

The man walked toward the entrance of the hall and came to a window where sunlight streamed in. He examined the transparency of the old mine glass-type jadeite through the sunlight.

After examining it, the man exclaimed excitedly, "It's not semi-transparent—it's completely transparent! This is the finest jade! This bracelet is worth at least ten million dollars!"

Everyone present was shocked!

Ten million dollars, and a delivery driver just casually brought it over?

Who exactly was this tycoon?!
