Chapter 60 - I Won’t Be a Backup Plan

Jeff was furious when he heard these words:

"You're the one who did wrong, and you still blame me for my poor background? Does that mean that you rich people can have affairs without restraint, building your happiness on the suffering of others, while we poor people are just supposed to endure your betrayal?!"

Although Jeff is not poor, he still wanted to speak up for the poor!

We are all human beings, and we all deserve to be respected!

Emily shook her head: "Can you be more realistic? Even my grandfather said that it's impossible for children from poor families to achieve great things anymore!"

"I know you're very good to me and very outstanding, but I can't see a future with you..."

As she spoke, Emily suddenly grabbed Jeff's hand: "Jeff, will you wait for me for a few years?"

This time, Jeff didn't shake off Emily's hand and asked, "Wait for you for several years? What do you mean?"

Emily said, "Let's get together a few years later, after I've inherited the Harper family's fortune and given birth to a child for the Caldwell family."

Jeff looked at Emily in disbelief. This girl, who seemed so pure and simple to him, actually had such a plan!

Jeff said with a look of horror, "You're treating me like a backup plan? You'll let that beast Ryan play with you for three or five years before you let me take over?"

Snap!

Emily slapped Jeff across the face because she didn't like the word "play."

Emily said, "Wake up! Be realistic! This is how society is! Only rich people can get rich and beautiful women! Men like you, who come from ordinary backgrounds, can only use what others have left over! This is the reality of the world!"

"Stop being so arrogant and self-important! You really need to change your personality!"

"Think about it carefully. In three to five years, I will have at least 1 billion, which is more money than you could earn as a bodyguard your whole life! Go ask any billionaire woman, which one would choose an ordinary man like you!"

"You should consider my love for you a blessing! You should kneel down and thank me, because I'll still want you! Instead of worrying about other nonsense!"

Emily's slap was quite forceful, but Jeff didn't feel any physical pain at all.

It wasn't because he had suffered too much damage on the battlefield, but because the physical pain couldn't compare to the pain in his heart!

Jeff fell silent. If he weren't the third young master of the Sterling family, a family worth hundreds of billions, if he were just a child from an ordinary family...

What would he choose at this moment?

For an ordinary man, marrying a billionaire woman—especially a beautiful and wealthy one—is a dream come true, even if she has been married to other men and has children.

Out of 100 men, 99 wouldn't mind!

For them, it might really be a blessing!

Jeff sighed, knowing that Emily loved him too.

"If it were someone else, they might be grateful to you, but unfortunately, I am Jeff Sterling, and I will never be a backup plan! Besides, you still owe me an apology for what happened before!"

Jeff's words were firm and resolute.

Emily cheated on her husband during their marriage, but to this day, she hasn't even apologized to Jeff, and she's already making Jeff her backup plan!

Emily said angrily, "I've been so good to you, and you're still so stubborn! Whether it's now or a few years from now, do you know that the men I could choose could stretch from here all the way to France! I chose you—you should be grateful! And you want me to say sorry? You'll never hear me say those three words to you in your entire life!"

Emily knew she had made a mistake, but she didn't want to apologize in a humble way. She felt that she had already done Jeff a favor, which was already a great compensation.

Jeff didn't want to argue with Emily anymore. "Okay, I won't force you. I wish you happiness and hope you won't regret your choice!"

After saying that, Jeff turned and left.

Emily shouted from behind him, "Haha, I regret it? Ryan Caldwell is a hundred times better than you! I married into a wealthy family! You're the one who's regretting it! In a few years, when you can no longer be a bodyguard, you'll come back kneeling and begging me! Then, let's see if I'll still want you!"

Jeff ignored her, keeping all his anger bottled up inside.

Next, he was going to vent all the hurt that Ryan Caldwell and Emily had caused him over the past period!

An hour later, at the Rose Garden villa area.

Jeff had moved out of the West Lake Hotel and bought a villa in Rose Garden Villa District, the most expensive villa area in Riverforge.

It was already 11 p.m. when Victoria Lang hurriedly arrived at Jeff's villa and said, "I'm sorry, Chairman Sterling, the traffic was terrible. It took me half an hour just to get out of the stadium."

Jeff left early, so it was relatively easy for him to leave. If he had waited until the concert was completely over, it would have been quite difficult to leave, whether by taxi or car.

Jeff didn't care. His expression was indifferent as he said, "The retaliation against the Caldwell family has officially begun. The Caldwell family is a first-class family in Riverforge. It will definitely take them some time to prepare for the wedding."

"I want to turn the Caldwell family from a first-rate family into a second-rate family before Ryan Caldwell and Emily get married!"

"Victoria, you know the Caldwell family better—why don't you tell me about it?"

Victoria Lang nodded: "The Caldwell family is now mainly managed by Ryan's father, Ryan Caldwell Sr. His biggest business is the Caldwell Express Hotel chain, which he founded and has locations across the country."

"In addition, there are more than 20 hotels in Riverforge, including Starlight and Premier, and there are also many hotels in the surrounding areas."

"A few years ago, his hotel brand went public and his net worth once reached 10 billion, but now it is not competitive and its valuation is only 3 billion."

Jeff said, "Their main target is the blind spot between budget hotels and luxury hotels—the light-luxury segment. A few years ago, when they were just starting out, they were blindly expanding and frantically acquiring properties and entering third- and fourth-tier cities. If it weren't for Uncle Dubrück, they would still be losing money now."

Victoria Lang stared in disbelief: "Chairman Sterling, the Uncle Dubrück you mentioned—could it be the world-renowned hotel master Paul Dubrück?"

Paul Dubrück is a world-class legend in the hotel industry!

Jeff nodded: "It's him. He's my grandfather's friend. He's an old guy, but he insisted that I call him uncle so that he would seem younger."

"Ha." Victoria Lang laughed, inwardly shocked. The connections of Jeff's family were incredible; even a casual friend of theirs was a world-class figure!

Jeff said, "I heard Dubrück mention that a hotel owner in the US had asked him for help. That should be Ryan Caldwell Sr. Back then, thanks to Uncle Dubrück, Caldwell Sr. was able to make a fortune of 100 million in half a year."

"I only need Uncle Dubrück to 'help' him one more time, and Caldwell Sr.'s hotel business will be finished."

Jeff smiled. Caldwell Sr. listened to Master Dubrück's words without question. If he could use Dubrück to trick him, it would be a piece of cake!
