Emily Harper was equally surprised. She thought, How could Ms. Lang remember Jeff's birthday?
She was curious so she asked, "How do you know Jeff's birthday?"
In her view, Jeff was just Victoria Lang's bodyguard. How could Victoria Lang remember a bodyguard's birthday so clearly?
Of course, she didn't know that Jeff was the object of Victoria Lang's affections, so of course she wanted to find out his birthday.
Victoria Lang explained, "Oh, his birthday happens to be the same day as my dad's. I've seen Jeff's ID card, so I remembered it." Victoria continued.
"Mrs. Caldwell, Jeff is still your ex-husband. You two were once in love. It doesn't seem right for you to choose to get married on his birthday, does it? Or do you simply not remember that this is his birthday?"
Emily said, "Of course I remember his birthday! However, the wedding date was set by the Caldwell family. I tried to persuade Ryan not to choose this day, but he insisted on it, and there was nothing I could do."
Ryan had looked up Jeff's information and knew that Jeff's birthday was May 12th. He deliberately chose this day to marry Emily in order to provoke Jeff!
Emily didn't want to continue the topic and asked, "Is Chairman Sterling in his office? May I send him a wedding invitation?"
Victoria Lang said, "I think so, please go ahead."
Victoria Lang knew Jeff was in the office, but she couldn't tell Emily directly that Jeff was Chairman Sterling.
"You are welcome to come to our wedding banquet on May 12th."
Emily smiled and invited her, then went to the chairman's office.
Bang bang.
Emily knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Emily pushed open the door and saw Jeff, somewhat disappointed: "Chairman Sterling isn't here."
Jeff had just gotten up to throw out the trash and wasn't in the chairman's seat. Too lazy to explain, he asked, "Is there something you need?"
Emily handed the wedding invitation to Jeff: "When Chairman Sterling is here, give this to him."
The wedding invitations featured a white, openwork magnolia pattern with a sky-blue bow, giving them a very high-end look.
Upon seeing this, Jeff was stunned: "This is..."
Emily said, "Ryan and I have set a date. It will be on your birthday, May 12th."
Jeff was furious and looked at Emily.
Emily quickly said, "Don't look at me like that, I didn't set the date."
Jeff was initially very angry, but then he seemed to remember something and started laughing again.
Choosing to get married on my birthday? Are you sure you're not courting death?
Jeff accepted the wedding invitation and said, "Congratulations, Emily Harper, on finally marrying into a wealthy family."
Emily knew Jeff was upset, so after hesitating for a moment, she handed him another wedding invitation.
"This is for you."
Jeff smiled. He hadn't expected that he would receive two wedding invitations for his ex-wife's wedding.
He opened it and took a look. He saw that the wedding invitation for Jeff read, "If you're a man, come and see what a truly top-tier wedding looks like."
The wedding invitation to "Chairman Sterling" read: "To Chairman Sterling of Horizon Group, we hereby announce that the wedding ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on May 12 at the Portman Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Riverforge. As everyone knows, Chairman Sterling is a leading figure in the Riverforge business community. The Caldwell and Harper families have long admired him and are eager to meet him. We will definitely treat him with the highest honors!"
Looking at the two wedding invitations, Jeff couldn't help but feel a sense of irony.
The invitations were for the same person, but in two different capacities, yet the contents of the invitations were completely different!
This is the reality of society!
No wonder Emily is so eager to marry into a wealthy family.
Emily couldn't decipher the meaning behind Jeff's smile, and said, "Why don't you not come? I know you still love me. You must have been very sad that day. It would be too embarrassing to get drunk and start a fight."
Jeff sneered: "Heh, you think I would cause a scene at your wedding because of you? Emily Harper, you're overthinking it! Since your husband wants me to go so much, then I will go. Don't worry, I won't get drunk or cause any trouble."
Emily nodded: "That's good."
Emily knew that Jeff was incredibly strong, and if he got angry and started fighting, few people would be able to stop him.
"By the way, what about what happened last time? What have you thought about it?"
Emily suddenly lowered her voice and asked, like a thief.
"What is it?" Jeff didn't react for a moment.
Emily angrily slapped Jeff's arm: "Idiot, it's about the thing I told you at the concert last time."
Jeff suddenly realized: "You mean you want me to be your backup plan for three years? Ha! I've already told you clearly, that's impossible!"
"Emily, there's no such thing as a free lunch. You can't have your cake and eat it too. You can only choose one, and unfortunately, you chose Ryan Caldwell!"
Emily was also furious: "What a pity, my ass! Choosing you is the real pity! I will never divorce Ryan. We will be loving and affectionate for the rest of our lives. You can be a bachelor for life, you can be so angry and envious!"
After saying all that, still not satisfied, she paused for a moment and then said, "Jeff, just keep pretending. I know you're putting on a brave face. When you see how happy I am on my wedding day and how wealthy my family is, you'll cry like a dog!"
After saying that, Emily stormed out.
I'll cry like a dog? Ha! On that day, it'll be you and Ryan crying!
Jeff didn't say this aloud, but he knew it was bound to happen!
Because on their wedding day, Emily will realize that she has missed out on the business tycoon of Riverforge!
And the man she married was a penniless man on the verge of bankruptcy!
In a fit of anger, Jeff tore the two wedding invitations to shreds!
At this moment, Victoria Lang walked in and, seeing this scene, said, "Ryan Caldwell is really asking for trouble. He actually chose to get married on your birthday. He's clearly trying to make you unhappy!"
Jeff snorted coldly: "Trying to use a wedding to suppress my birthday? A mere investor in Caldwell Express dares to compare himself to me? Victoria, inform the company's partners of my birthday date."
Victoria Lang smiled; she had long wanted to throw a big birthday party for Jeff: "Yes!"
...
One week later.
May 12th, 6:00 AM.
"Damn! We lost money again! How could this happen! Isn't this investment supposed to be healthy? How could it be shut down for violating regulations?"
Ryan didn't sleep all night, wearing his wedding suit, and made phone calls in his room.
In the past week, he invested all 500 million dollars that his father gave him into more than 200 companies!
More than half of the investments failed, which is not surprising.
There were originally more than a dozen potential investments with good returns, but suddenly a series of problems arose.
And it's not a minor problem, but the kind of catastrophic disaster that could lead to bankruptcy or shutdown.
Ryan has almost lost all of his 500 million dollars!
