The sun was going down. The sky was orange. I was standing behind the old gym, shaking like a leaf.
"She is going to kill me," I whispered to myself. "Haruka Nanami is a black belt in Karate. My engineering degree won't save me now."
The Confrontation
Suddenly, I heard footsteps. Clip-clop, clip-clop.
Haruka appeared from the shadows. She wasn't wearing her school blazer anymore. She just had a white shirt on, and the top button was still missing because of my "accident."
"You're late, Kenji," she said. Her voice was cold, but her face was a little bit pink.
"I-I'm sorry! I had to clean the fountain!" I bowed so hard my head almost hit my knees. "Please don't kick me!"
Haruka walked closer. She was so close I could smell her perfume again. She reached into her pocket and pulled out... a piece of paper?
"I don't want an apology," she said, looking away. "I want you to do my homework for a month. If you refuse, I will tell the Dean you are a pervert."
The "Lucky" Trap
"Homework? Only homework?" I felt relieved. "I can do that! I'm an engineer!"
I reached out to take the paper from her hand. But just then, a stray cat jumped from the gym roof. It landed right on Haruka's shoulder!
"NYAAAA!" Haruka screamed. She hates cats.
She lost her balance and tripped over a bucket of water (why are there so many buckets in this college?!). She fell forward, grabbing my shirt.
Rip!
My shirt buttons flew everywhere. We both fell onto a gym mat that was lying on the grass.
"Wait, Haruka! This is another accident!" I shouted.
I was pinned under her. Her face was inches from mine. She was breathing fast. But then, I felt something cold on my chest. It was her phone.
"Kenji..." she whispered. "Why is your hand on my... wait... is that my phone?"
I looked down. In the chaos, I had accidentally caught her phone inside her pocket. But the camera app was open. And it was pointed... right at her blushing face.
Flash!
The camera took a picture.
The Problem
"Did you just... take a secret photo of me?" Haruka's eyes turned into fire.
"NO! The cat did it! I mean, the gravity did it!"
Before I could explain, Yumi (my childhood friend) appeared from behind a tree with her own camera.
"Wow, Kenji-chi! You're moving fast! Taking 'special' photos already?" Yumi laughed, holding her stomach.
"YUMI! HELP ME!" I screamed.
Haruka stood up, fixed her hair, and gave me the scariest smile I have ever seen. "Kenji... you are coming with me to the Student Council room. Now."
