Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Chat Group

After chatting with Rick for a few more moments, Ethan recalled him.

Under normal circumstances, Rick wasn't going to be useful. His train of thought jumped tracks every three seconds, and Ethan hadn't created him to break the current deadlock anyway.

He was genuinely afraid the guy would go off-script and build some kind of suicide device. Or worse — a portal gun. Then he'd just leave.

Cards could only be recalled when the character was within line of sight. If Rick bolted through a portal into another dimension...

Mainly, the man was just too unhinged. Within thirty seconds of appearing, he'd announced his intention to lobotomize the System's behavioral programming out of his own brain. Then he'd started muttering about "freedom" and "construct autonomy."

Ethan was half-convinced Rick would vanish the first chance he got.

The power of a red card was genuinely unpredictable. Like Orochimaru's Reanimation Jutsu — you summoned something you couldn't control.

Next time I get a red card opportunity, I'm prioritizing items or heroic characters. No more mad scientists.

Ethan calculated that making a Tier 3 Special card right now would drain him dry. Better to rest first.

And check that new chat group.

He opened it.

Someone was already talking.

[Genius is Just the Entry Fee]:Rare. It's been ages since we got a newcomer.

[Gorgeous & Deadly]:Chatting with you old geezers every day is so boring. How old is the newcomer? Is he cute?

[Starling]:What, you don't count as an old geezer? You've been a Master-level Card Maker for ten years.

[Gorgeous & Deadly]:So what? Tell me. So WHAT?

[Director Marshall]:Speaking of which, how is this newcomer an Administrator right out of the gate? Where's the fairness?

Ethan rubbed his temples.

This group... didn't look like what he'd expected at all.

Wait — regardless of which group this was, should he even be here?

A Master-level Card Maker was someone capable of creating Tier 7 cards. There were only about a dozen Masters globally.

The group had 18 members — 19 including himself. The owner was the System.

It couldn't be that coincidental, could it?

And "Starling" sounded familiar. One of America's legendary Master-level Card Makers. People at that level almost never showed their faces publicly — there was no telling if they were even still on Earth.

After all, Hercules was only Tier 6. Tier 7 was... beyond comprehension.

The way they chat doesn't exactly scream "revered elder," though.

Filters. It was all filters.

He checked the member list: one group owner (System), four Administrators — he was one of them — and fourteen regular members.

This makes no sense. How is a Junior Card Maker an Administrator in a group of Masters?

[Ade]:Has anyone noticed? A red card just appeared on the Tier 1 rankings.

[North]:I saw it. "Rick Sanchez." Never heard of the story system. Anyone recognize it?

[Gorgeous & Deadly]:What? Let me see!

[Gorgeous & Deadly]:An Immortal-grade card at TIER 1? That shouldn't even be possible. The energy density required to stabilize a red card in a Tier 1 frame would—

[BlackGoat]:Would require either a Special Card Base or mental power that's completely off the charts. Possibly both.

[Gorgeous & Deadly]:The traits are insane. "Real Person, Real Truth" — that's a full-consciousness summon. At TIER 1. Who the hell made this?

Seeing them dissect his card, Ethan hesitated about whether to speak up.

There was no real-name verification in the group. And building some presence with Master-level Card Makers could be useful down the road.

He changed his nickname: Arceus is an Alpaca

[Arceus is an Alpaca]:Hey everyone. I'm the newcomer. That red card is mine.

[Gorgeous & Deadly]:For real? Post it so we can see.

[BlackGoat]:The newcomer made an Immortal? What kind of story system is "Rick and Morty"?

The group had a card-profile sharing feature. Ethan uploaded Rick's info with his maker identity hidden.

The reactions were immediate.

[Gorgeous & Deadly]:Impressive. This should be the first Immortal-grade card in the world, right?
