Chapter 253 - You Think Some Nobody Can Drive Me Into a Corner?

Having made up his mind, Hiruzen stepped forward.

"Elder Shimura," he said, voice firm, "you may be eloquent, but facts do not change just because you twist them."

"Tenzo is standing right here. Others may not know the truth of what you've done—but he does."

He turned.

"Tenzo. In front of everyone, tell them what you know."

Tenzo had already been briefed in advance. He nodded and spoke without hesitation.

"Ever since I can remember, I lived inside a Root laboratory."

"Every day I underwent examinations and experiments conducted by Root researchers."

"I was the only survivor of the Wood Release trials… which is likely why they 'valued' me so much."

"That's the only reason I'm still alive."

"That life continued until I was about six."

"After that, besides the experiments, I was taught literacy, chakra control, and ninjutsu. I was trained."

"Until not long ago… during a mission… I was rescued by Lord—" he corrected himself, "—by Sarutobi-sama."

"That was the end of my life in Root."

He lifted his gaze.

"I can testify that Elder Shimura never ceased human experimentation."

"Not just Wood Release. There were experiments involving the Uchiha's Sharingan… and many others."

"I know the locations of several Root laboratories."

"I can lead you there."

The hall fell into tense silence.

Tenzo's voice carried no theatrics—just simple, devastating clarity.

Hiruzen had spent days "guiding" him, reshaping his understanding of loyalty. The tongue-sealing curse had been lifted.

There was no hesitation left in him.

He was stabbing Danzō cleanly.

Yet the room did not erupt immediately.

Everyone had realized something important.

Today's jōnin assembly was no longer about the Fourth Hokage.

It was a duel.

Sarutobi Hiruzen versus Shimura Danzō.

And this—this was the critical phase.

Some were surprised by the mention of Sharingan experiments. That detail was new to many.

All eyes shifted—briefly—to the Uchiha delegation.

Uchiha Setsuna's expression darkened instantly. Fugaku's jaw tightened. Uchiha Yashi looked murderous.

Yet at Uchiha Jin's subtle gesture, they remained seated.

They did not explode.

They did not demand blood.

They did not even speak.

That restraint alone shocked half the chamber.

The Uchiha were infamous for their volatility.

And yet now—they were calm.

Too calm.

Jin, meanwhile, sat with his hands folded, as if he hadn't heard a thing.

Of course he knew Tenzo wasn't lying.

Danzō's secrets were no mystery to him.

But this was not the time to settle accounts.

The more viciously Danzō and Hiruzen tore into each other, the better.

When Danzō finally became useless—

That would be the time for reckoning.

Across the hall, Danzō's face had darkened like gathering storm clouds.

But he did not panic.

He spoke coldly.

"Sarutobi… what is this?"

"You bring in some nameless whelp and expect to condemn me?"

Hiruzen frowned.

"Elder Shimura, mind your words. Tenzo is an ANBU jōnin. His identity is known to you. He is not some unknown stray."

Danzō gave a sharp laugh.

"Oh, I know him well."

"I gave him that name—Tenzo."

"I gave him his life."

"For years he ate my food, wore my clothes, used my resources."

"I had him taught to read. To mold chakra. To fight."

"I made him into a capable shinobi."

"And how does he repay me?"

"A few days outside, and he returns to stab me with outsiders."

"A man without loyalty, without gratitude, without righteousness—what else should I call him?"

"And these so-called 'laboratories'?"

"If he points at some random cave and claims it's mine, does that make it so?"

"He has already betrayed me."

"What stops him from fabricating slander?"

"Does his word become truth simply because he speaks it?"

The logic was brutal.

If Tenzo's credibility collapsed—

So would everything he said.

Tenzo froze.

Because what Danzō said was, technically, true.

Danzō had raised him.

Fed him.

Trained him.

But that wasn't kindness.

It was investment.

He had been livestock.

A tool.

A blade kept sharp for use.

If that counted as benevolence—

Then evil had no meaning left.

Tenzo knew all of this.

But he lacked the language to dismantle it.

He was still too young.

Hiruzen saw his hesitation and immediately stepped in.

"Elder Shimura, that is sophistry."

"You cultivated Tenzo only because he was useful to you!"

"Does anyone here not know the kind of man you are?"

Danzō's gaze sharpened.

"Sarutobi. Words require evidence."

"Otherwise, they are defamation."

"I have devoted my life to Konoha."

"Everything I have done was for the village."

"I have no shame."

Hiruzen let out a cold chuckle.

"Tenzo may lack weight—but you did not conduct these experiments alone."

He turned slowly.

"Orochimaru."

"You were the technical lead."

"No matter how you frame it, the experiments cannot be separated from you."

"You know everything."

"Speak honestly."

"You were acting under orders. The village will not pursue you."

It was no longer subtle.

Hiruzen was forcing a choice.

And this time—

It wasn't some insignificant Root orphan standing in the spotlight.

It was one of the Three Legendary Sannin.

If Orochimaru testified—

Danzō would have nowhere left to stand.
