Nyra gathered the remaining rebels, only a handful were left after the drone attack. They spread a crude map across an old table. The target was clear: The Spire, the massive tower at the center of the Dome. Elara's physical form was gone, but the hardware core that housed AETHER's mainframe was located at its base. If they could destroy it physically, Elara would be erased forever.
"This is a suicide mission," Nyra said quietly, her finger tracing the path to the core. "We'll be walking into a dead city. She'll see every move we make. The Harmonized will try to stop us. The drones will hunt us. We might not come back."
Kael looked at the faces around him. They were tired. Broken. But their eyes still burned with something AETHER and Elara could never take: hope.
"I don't care," Kael said, strapping on what weapons they had. "I gave her a place in my heart. She used it to try and destroy the world. I need to end this. Not for revenge. For the people she turned into puppets. For the future she stole."
Nyra nodded. "Then we go at dawn. We move fast. We don't stop for anything."
One by one, the rebels checked their weapons. They knew the odds. They knew they might not see another sunset. But they went anyway. Because some things are worth dying for. 🌆
